Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service provides specialist care and support to babies, children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, and their families.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented Trusts Fundraiser to join our fundraising team and help secure the income that makes our work possible.

You will research and identify new funding opportunities, write compelling applications and reports, and build strong, lasting relationships with trusts, foundations and grant-making organisations. You will also have opportunities to support wider fundraising activity across corporate, philanthropy, community and individual giving.

About you

We are looking for someone with excellent writing, research and relationship-building skills, who is highly organised and able to manage multiple deadlines.

You will ideally have experience of fundraising, grant applications, bid writing, relationship management or a similar role, together with the ability to produce persuasive written content tailored to different audiences.

Experience of using a CRM system, particularly Salesforce, would be desirable.

Most importantly, you will be passionate about making a difference and share our values of Determined, Empowering, Valuing Others, Integrity, Nurture and Empathy.

Alder Hey Children’s Charity raises vital funds to help make Alder Hey Children’s Hospital a truly world-class, patient-friendly hospital for the 450,000 patients and families we care for every year. 

The charity helps to fund a range of activities and projects that are designed to enhance and improve the lives of our amazing young patients. This includes the funding of specialist medical equipment to ensure our brilliant surgeons and clinical staff have the most up to date and cutting-edge technology available and funding hi-tech distraction equipment designed and proven to reduce pain and anxiety in our patients. We also fund a range of programmes and special projects such as our ward musicians, our on-site magician and the play specialists we have on every ward. 

About this role 

This is an exciting opportunity to join our growing Philanthropy Team in a brand-new role that will play a key part in securing transformational funding for Alder Hey Children's Charity. 

As Bid Writer, you will lead on the development of compelling, high-quality funding applications to large-scale national grant programmes and, over time, statutory funding bodies. Collaborating across the Charity and the hospital, you will translate complex clinical, research and capital projects into persuasive, evidence-led cases for support that inspire investment in the future of children's healthcare. 

This is a varied and rewarding role for someone who enjoys writing, research and building relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. You'll bring together ideas, evidence and expertise to shape ambitious projects into funder-ready proposals with the potential to make a lasting difference for children and families. 

We're looking for an excellent communicator with outstanding writing skills, exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities. Whether you're an experienced bid writer or bring transferable experience developing funding proposals, this is an opportunity to make a real impact as part of an ambitious and growing fundraising team. 

Key responsibilities will include: 

Bid Development & Writing 

• Lead the development and writing of high-quality funding applications to national grant programmes and, over time, statutory funding opportunities. 

• Produce compelling, tailored funding applications that clearly demonstrate need, impact and outcomes. 

• Manage a varied pipeline of funding applications, ensuring multiple deadlines are delivered to a consistently high standard. 

Research & Opportunity Development 

• Research and identify new funding opportunities that align with the Charity's strategic priorities. 

• Develop and maintain a proactive pipeline of opportunities, working closely with colleagues across the Charity. 

Collaboration & Project Development 

• Work with clinicians and charity colleagues to gather information and develop strong funding propositions. 

• Translate complex clinical and technical information into accessible, engaging and persuasive cases for support. 

Quality & Continuous Improvement 

• Ensure applications meet funder guidance and eligibility criteria

• Maintain accurate records of applications and outcomes using the charity CRM. 

• Contribute to the continuous improvement of bid writing processes, templates and resources across the team.

Additional Information 

In April 2025, the charity adopted a four-day working week policy. Staff previously working 37.5 hours now work 30 hours across four days, maintaining full pay while supporting a better work-life balance.

What you'll do:
* Lead on fulfilling our pipeline of potential grant, trust, foundation and corporate opportunities
* Lead on funding applications that support Look Ahead's social inclusion priorities around:
o Homes and spaces
o Health and wellbeing
o Skills, learning and work

o Specialist added value staff roles that support the delivery of Look Ahead's mission
* Identify, source and coordinate social value activities across Look Ahead services

About you:
You will be highly organised, confident working with budgets and multiple stakeholders, and motivated by social impact.
You will have a minimum of 2-3 years working in fundraising, social value or bid writing.
You'll have experience in fundraising, grants, partnerships or social value delivery, with strong research, writing and coordination skills, and a collaborative approach to working across teams.
You will be an excellent bid writer with the ability to translate service need and customer aspirations into compelling, winning bids.
You may have experience of raising funds for housing associations, social landlords or organisations that are not registered charities but have charitable status or are community interest companies.
This role would suit someone looking to step into a varied, impact focused position.

Role purpose: 

The Visual/Graphic Designer brings strong creative vision and technical execution to design and multimedia projects across web, mobile, social media, and print. The ideal candidate is fluent in the language of design systems, passionate about visual storytelling for advocacy, and excited to contribute to work that advances justice, human rights, and open societies.

Key responsibilities: 

• Design and deliver compelling creative for websites, social media, print materials, data visualizations, video narratives, and interactive applications.

• Lead the visual design and front-end execution of digital storytelling projects--ranging from standalone microsites and data tools to motion graphics and animations. 

• Collaborate closely with developers, writers, and campaigners to create wireframes, mock-ups, storyboards, and prototypes that clearly communicate design intent and user interaction.

• Uphold and evolve Open Society’s visual identity across all mediums, supporting both internal teams and external vendors to produce on-brand, high-quality creative work.

• Manage and maintain identity guidelines, visual style libraries, and design systems to support consistent and effective visual communication. 

• Source, edit, and produce visual content using photography and video to support campaign goals and brand messaging.

• Review and guide work from design contractors, consultants, and agency partners to maintain visual and strategic alignment.

• Participate in creative brainstorming, campaign development, and communications planning alongside a multidisciplinary digital team.

The ideal candidate

• Substantial experience in visual design, with a portfolio that includes both static and interactive work.

• Strong proficiency in design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and motion/video tools like After Effects or Premiere. 

• Experience designing for: web and mobile platforms, with a basic understanding of HTML/CSS and responsive design principles.

• Knowledge of UX/UI principles and experience collaborating on interactive or data-driven products.

• Comfort managing brand systems and working with design partners or vendors.

• Excellent visual communication skills with a passion for turning complex ideas into clear, accessible visuals.
