Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity is looking for a Grant Funding Programme Manager to help shape and deliver our healthcare funding portfolio at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

This is more than a traditional grants management role. You’ll work closely with clinical and senior hospital colleagues to understand emerging needs, develop new funding schemes and help turn ambitious ideas into investments that can make a meaningful difference to children, families and staff.

From clinical transformation and medical equipment to patient experience, technology and innovation, you’ll have the opportunity to explore new areas of funding and help shape what we fund, why we fund it and how we know it is making a difference. 
 

Salary

The salary for this role is £47,674 per annum and we operate a hybrid working policy of a minimum of 2 days per week in the office.

In line with our EDI strategy and Total Reward policy, we calculate our salaries based on benchmarking data across the charity sector. To ensure fairness for existing staff and new joiners, we do not offer salaries above the advertised rate.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead strategic areas of our healthcare funding portfolio, developing a strong understanding of the relevant hospital landscape, and using this insight to inform future charitable funding decisions. 
• Work closely with senior clinical and hospital colleagues to review significant and sometimes complex funding proposals, helping turn ideas into well-designed programmes with clear outcomes.
• Design new funding schemes and approaches, establishing the processes, governance and ways of working needed to make them successful.
• Assess funding proposals and provide thoughtful, constructive challenge around need, strategic fit, deliverability, sustainability and impact.
• Prepare clear recommendations and present proposals and portfolio updates to senior decision-making forums, including our Trustee-level Grants & Impact Committee.
• Manage funding programmes throughout their lifecycle, from application and assessment through to monitoring, evaluation and learning.
• Build trusted relationships across the hospital and Charity, creating an environment where people can explore ideas while ensuring funding decisions remain robust and evidence led.
• Stay curious about developments across healthcare and the NHS, identifying where charitable funding could unlock innovation or create greater impact for children and families.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

We’re looking for someone with strong grants experience who is particularly motivated by healthcare funding.

You’ll bring:

• Strong healthcare and/or research grants management experience, including delivering funding schemes and peer review.
• A genuine interest in healthcare funding, with the motivation to work across areas such as clinical transformation and staff support.
• Experience planning and delivering complex projects or programmes within grants management, healthcare, research, funding or a related environment.
• Strong relationship-building and influencing skills, with the confidence to work closely with senior clinical, healthcare and organisational stakeholders.
• The ability to critically assess complex proposals, ask thoughtful questions and make clear, evidence-based recommendations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to make complex information accessible to different audiences.
• Experience supporting senior decision-making committees and producing high-quality papers and recommendations.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied portfolio while responding flexibly to changing priorities.
• Sound knowledge of healthcare or a related discipline and good understanding of grant management practice.
• A postgraduate qualification in a relevant healthcare or scientific discipline, or equivalent professional experience, is required. 
• Experience presenting proposals and recommendations to executive, Board or Trustee-level audiences would be particularly valuable.
