Luton Town FC Community Trust is seeking to recruit a Community Operations Manager to play a key role in the coordination, delivery and development of its community programmes. This is a senior operational role, working closely with the Head of Community Trust to ensure programmes are well managed, aligned to organisational priorities and delivered to a high standard.
The role will combine operational leadership with a proportion of direct programme delivery, enabling the postholder to remain connected to communities, delivery teams and participant needs. The Community Operations Manager will also contribute to the development of new programmes and associated funding opportunities, support partnership working and act as a key decision maker for day-to-day operational matters.

Job Purpose
Reporting to the Head of Community Trust, the Community Operations Manager will provide operational leadership across the organisation, while maintaining a proportion of direct programme delivery to remain connected to communities, delivery teams and participant needs.
The role will coordinate and strengthen programme delivery; line manage designated staff and support the development of new programmes and associated funding opportunities aligned to organisational priorities.
The postholder will embed organisational strategy into effective day to day operations, acting as a key decision maker for operational matters and supporting senior leadership capacity.
Key Responsibilities
1. Community Engagement & Relationship Building
- Build strong relationships with funders, local authorities, key stakeholders, local schools, charities, grassroots clubs and other community organisations.
- Act as a liaison between the football club and the local community.
- Promote inclusion and diversity through outreach to underrepresented groups.
2. Programme Development & Delivery
- Contribute to and support funding applications, programme design, delivery and evaluation across community programmes within each department including, but not limited to:
- Education
- Health
- Inclusion
- Football Development
3. Staff and Volunteer Management
- Recruit, train and manage staff employees and volunteers who represent the Trust.
- Provide leadership and mentoring for delivery coaches, project workers, media team and match day staff.
4. Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting
- Track the impact of community programmes using required and appropriate metrics and key performance indicators.
- Prepare reports for stakeholders, funders (e.g. EFL in the Community, Premier League Foundation, local authorities), and Luton Town Community Trust Board of Trustees.
- Ensure compliance and governance with safeguarding, health and safety and data protection policies.
5. Marketing & Promotion
- Raise awareness of the Trust’s work through managing the organisations media output across various platforms e.g. web site, newsletters, social media and local media outlets.
- Represent the Trust at community events, matchdays, and public forums.
6. Fundraising & Grant Management
- Collaborate with the Head of Trust and Programme Managers to identify and apply for grants and funding opportunities.
- Build partnerships with sponsors, local businesses and charitable foundations.
7. Club Integration
- Work cosely with all football club departments, including first team players and staff, media and marketing, facilities and catering, and Academy to ensure alignment between Community Trust and Club.
- Manage the efficient coordination of player appearances and community involvement on behalf of the Club
MAIN JOB REQUIREMENTS AND PERSON SPECIFICATION
Education/Qualifications/Training:
Essentials
- Strong experience in community development, sport development and youth engagement.
- Strong project and operational management skills, with the ability to plan, deliver and evaluate initiatives – prioritising and managing multiple priorities
- Experience with grant funding processes
- Experience of developing organisational strategy within the sporting or charity sector
- Experience in partnership working with schools, councils, charities
- Leadership and staff supervision experience – managing coaches, volunteers or delivery staff
- Monitoring & evaluation skills – ability to track KPIs and write impact reports
- Budget management experience
- Confident IT skills, including use of Microsoft Office and database software
- Valid First Aid and Safeguarding qualifications (or willingness to obtain)

The organisation rescues high quality edible surplus food, from across the food industry and gets it to over 8,000 organisations across the UK who are working to strengthen communities and improve lives.
The charity manages seven depots across London, Suffolk, Merseyside and Hampshire and works with 16 network partners who operate a further 26 regional depots across the UK.

Public fundraising and engagement will be central to that strategy, and as Head of Public Fundraising & Engagement, you will play a leading role in shaping it.

We also have the opportunity to learn from The Felix Project’s success in London and explore how proven approaches can be adapted and scaled nationally.

About the role
The Head of Public Fundraising & Engagement will lead our public fundraising portfolio. This newly created role will oversee Individual Giving and Legacies, Community Fundraising, Mass Participation and Challenge Events, and Fundraising Operations, with five direct reports.
You will be accountable for public fundraising income and performance, whilst also helping to bring together teams, systems and ways of working following the merger. You’ll sit on both the Fundraising Senior Management Team and the organisation’s Senior Management Team, contributing to organisation-wide strategy, decision-making and culture.
You will play a key role in shaping our three-year public fundraising strategy, ensuring it is ambitious, realistic and rooted in audience insight.
Whilst much of the portfolio is delivered through Senior Managers, there is particular scope and opportunity, to shape the future of Community and Mass Fundraising – where we’ve deliberately protected delivery while leaving space for the new Head to define long-term strategy, growth and resource.
You’ll also play a leading role in embedding a new organisational brand once agreed.

Innovation and new product development
•Work collaboratively with colleagues to shape and embed the organisation’s innovation framework within public fundraising, ensuring disciplined testing, learning and scaling.
•Contribute a public fundraising perspective to cross-organisational and directorate innovation priorities, ensuring opportunities are commercially viable and audience-led.
•Lead the development of new fundraising products, propositions and approaches, from ideas through to testing and scale.
•Explore new ways for people to engage and give – particularly in acquisition-led activity such as face-to-face, digital and mass fundraising.
•Use insight, data and supporter feedback to shape and refine new ideas.
•Balance creativity with a commercial mindset i.e. Stopping what doesn’t work and scaling what does.
Shaping Community and Mass Fundraising
• Make a hands-on strategic lead in shaping the future direction of Community and Mass Fundraising.
•Build on recent business planning that has protected delivery whilst leaving space for longer-term strategic choices.
• Identify growth opportunities and test new approaches to help define future operating models.
•Build momentum and organisational confidence in areas with significant untapped potential.
•Increase partnerships with small and medium-sized corporates within Community Fundraising, developing scalable propositions that can grow nationally, working in partnership with network partners.
Working with our network partners
•Play a leading role in shaping how we fundraise with, for and alongside our network partners in the public fundraising space, working closely with the Senior Network Fundraising Manager.
•Work collaboratively to explore ideas, test approaches and unlock opportunities that benefit both the network and the organisation.
•Ensure public fundraising activity reflects the stories and impact of our network partners in a respectful and sensitive way.
Developing high-potential partnerships
•Lead the strategic development of high-profile partnerships including our newly launched three-year partnership with Nectar.
•Work closely with internal teams and external partners to grow reach, impact and value over time.
•Develop and embed a robust a partnership strategy for within public fundraising, to ensure we are maximising opportunities with third party providers.
Shaping our legacy fundraising proposition
•Take a strategic lead in developing our legacy fundraising approach, working closely with the Senior IG & Legacy Manager.
•Shape a compelling legacy proposition linked to our impact, values and volunteer workforce – an area of untapped potential.
•Ensure legacy fundraising asks are integrated into wider supporter journeys and long term planning.
•Build organisational confidence, capability and momentum in this area over time.
Brand embedding and supporter acquisition
•Play a leading role in embedding the new organisational brand across all public fundraising activity once agreed.
•Work closely with colleagues in Marketing & Communications to ensure fundraising needs are reflected in the new brand as it develops over time.
•Support your team to translate brand strategy into practical, high-performing fundraising activity.
Merger transition and CRM
•Play a senior role in the organisation’s merger transition, with particular focus on the Fundraising Transition, working closely with the Fundraising Transition Lead, ensuring that public fundraising’s priorities are reflected in change planning.
•Act as the senior fundraising lead for the implementation of a combined CRM, ensuring public fundraising needs shape system design, data structure, reporting and supporter journeys.
•Work closely with colleagues in digital, data and IT, as well as external partners, to ensure systems support future growth and great supporter experiences.
•Balance business-as-usual income delivery with the demands of transformation and change.
•Help modernise processes and ways of working so the organisation can scale effectively.

The Role of Director of Property
Effective management of clergy housing and glebe assets is critical to supporting mission and ministry across the Diocese which covers Coventry, Warwickshire and part of Solihull.

They will oversee 156 clergy houses valued at £18.6m and a glebe portfolio valued at c£34m, comprising commercial property, agricultural land, and farming tenancies.

About Merchant Taylors’ Boones Charity (MTBC)
MTBC is a charitable arm of the Merchant Taylors’ Company, with a vision to be a long term provider of high quality almshouses in the Borough of Lewisham that improves lives across the generations.
Almshouse dwellings for ‘low needs’ young people affected by homeless – this Youth Almshouses project is at the business planning phase, with the accommodation due to open in a few years’ time. The current proposal is that MTBC will build the accommodation and an experienced Partner Charity will manage it under a lease.
Independent living almshouse flats for people aged 57+ in financial need: Christopher Boone’s Court - MTBC has 34 flats in this luxurious new development, leased from One Housing Group. The remaining flats are owned by One Housing Group’s private tenants in the same age range.
About the role
Reports to: The Head of Philanthropy

Places of work: The Hall (Bank, London), Christopher Boone’s Court (South London).
Travel: Some travel may be required within Greater London in connection with various aspects of the role. Occasional travel may be required within the UK, primarily in connection with the Youth Almshouses project.
Key collaborative relationships within Merchant Taylors’: Youth Almshouses Project Group, Company Surveyor, Membership and Communications Team, Finance Team
Overview of role:
The postholder leads the development of policy on issues such as independent living and financial subsidy to make a positive difference to the lives of older people in financial hardship at our site in Lewisham. The postholder manages operations at that site, with an emphasis on efficient systems.
The postholder is part of the small team responsible for developing our project to house young people, being versatile about the tasks they undertake to bring this complex and exciting project to fruition.
The postholder is the lead staff member reporting to the Housing and Care Committee on the resident-related issues in our provision of almshouse accommodation. The post holder leads on fulfilling MTBC’s obligations to regulatory bodies such as the Charity Commission and Regulator of Social Housing.
Responsibilities and Duties
Youth Almshouses project: planning phase
[This phase has already started. There is a separate section of this Job Description relating to once construction has finished, estimated to be 2028]
Contributes to all aspects of the planning phase of the Youth Almshouses project and building relationships with key third parties. Non-exhaustive examples of milestones due in this phase for the project team to which this role belongs are:
o Agreeing appropriate business model and site design with the Partner Charity
o Conclusive professional advice on all aspects
o Concluding legal agreements with the Partner Charity
o Any regulatory issues concluded
o Planning permission granted
o Publicity
o Contracts in place with all parties relevant to construction
Management of the charity
- Presents information to assist decision-making, for example written reports and analysis of financial data for the trustees
- Manages MTBC’s affairs at Christopher Boone’s Court
Finance, Legal and Governance
- Leads on all financial matters affecting our residents at Christopher Boone’s Court.
- Completes annual returns to regulatory bodies
- Contributes to business continuity plan, review of relevant policies, preparation of MTBC’s annual report and accounts, budgeting cycle and monitoring performance against budget.
- Ensures that MTBC is up to date in complying with regulatory regimes of the Charity Commission, Regulator of Social Housing, the Housing Ombudsman and any other relevant regulatory bodies.
Data Protection
Promotes a ‘data protection by design’ approach to ensure that MTBC is compliant with data protection principles.
Policy, Development and Improvement
- Leads policy development on independent living, financial subsidy of residents, and any other relevant policy issues relating to residents of Christopher Boone’s Court or the planned youth accommodation.
- Keeps up to date with regulatory changes and best practice learning relevant to almshouse charities which are Registered Providers of Social Housing
- Drives forward change to reflect that learning, for the benefit of MTBC.
- Seeks appropriate specialist advice.
Information Technology and Residents
Encourages and develops the use and availability of technology to make residents at Christopher Boone’s Court confident with accessing online services.
Communications
Writes communications about MTBC and its activities for a wide variety of stakeholders.
Property Management
Arranges any repairs/maintenance at Christopher Boone’s Court which are MTBC’s responsibility.
Monitors whether One Housing Group and MTBC’s tenant at Archbishop Coggan House are carrying out all tests required by statute or lease obligations. Reports non-compliance and any unsatisfactory test results to the Company Surveyor’s team.
Assists the Company Surveyor’s team in arrangements for long term planned maintenance at the Youth Almshouses.
MTBC residents at Christopher Boone’s Court
- Leads strategy and implements all communications, arrangements and process to ensure MTBC’s almshouse flats are occupied
- Establishes an efficient system for monitoring residents’ ability to live independently
- Leads on operating all policies relating to residents’ behaviour (eg Anti-Social Behaviour)
- Drives forward and resolves ‘pastoral’ cases with a proportionate approach
- Assists in dealing with safeguarding cases in accordance with protocols
- Leads on ending individual residents’ rights to live at Christopher Boone’s Court, through the appropriate internal and court processes, including instructing lawyers.
- Ensures that an ARC concessionary TV licence is in force for MTBC residents at Christopher Boone’s Court.
- Organises traditional annual events involving the Merchant Taylors’ Company.
Relationships with third parties
Christopher Boone’s Court:
- Ensures that One Housing Group and any other relationship partners meet agreed performance levels/contractual responsibilities to MTBC.
- Works proactively with One Housing Group to promote a cohesive, empowered community of residents at Christopher Boone’s Court, ensuring as far as reasonably possible that there is a common and consistent approach to MTBC and non-MTBC residents, and common opportunities for them.
Youth Almshouses after construction has finished (est. 2028):
- Acts as the key point of contact between the Partner Charity managing the accommodation, Merchant Taylors’ and its Client Project Manager, leading on operational issues.
- Notifies all construction latent defects to MTBC’s Client Project Manager.
- Leads on the Partner Charity’s performance level against the lease and service agreement.
- Assists as required in procuring periodic renewal and/or re-negotiation of lease and service agreement between MTBC and the Partner Charity, or a new lease and agreement with a replacement Partner Charity
