Job Description

Philanthropy will play a defining role in delivering this ambition. With plans to significantly scale income over the coming years, we are seeking a senior, commercially-minded Philanthropy Lead to drive high-value growth and deepen engagement with influential supporters across the UK.

As Philanthropy Lead, you will take ownership of a high-value donor portfolio, securing and stewarding five and six figure gifts while driving forward a donor-centric fundraising strategy.

You will operate as a trusted partner to senior leaders and influential stakeholders, leveraging networks, insight and opportunity to build a sustainable pipeline of philanthropic support.

Alongside income generation, you will play a key role in shaping how Marie Curie engages high-net-worth individuals bringing innovation, credibility and strategic thinking to a growing function.

What you’ll be doing

• Building a pipeline of new high-net-worth individuals through proactive outreach, networking and relationship building
• Owning and driving your own workload, managing your prospect pipeline and identifying new opportunities
• Initiating conversations, arranging face-to-face meetings and creating bespoke cultivation journeys
• Working closely with senior leaders and volunteers to develop and progress donor relationships
• Developing compelling propositions and confidently making five and six-figure asks
• Using creativity, curiosity and insight to spot opportunities others might miss
• Representing Marie Curie externally and helping grow our profile with influential audiences

Who we’re looking for

• Proven experience in major donor or philanthropy fundraising
• A proven record of securing significant philanthropic income, including five and six figure gifts
• The credibility and presence to engage and influence high-net-worth individuals and senior stakeholders
• Strong commercial judgement combined with a donor-centric, relationship-led approach
• Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling cases for support and lead high-value conversations
• Strategic thinking, resilience and the ability to navigate complexity and ambiguity
• A collaborative mindset, with the confidence to contribute across a high-performing national team

You don’t need to come from a traditional charity major gifts background transferable experience from relationship-led, high-value environments is welcome.

Relationship Manager (North and Scotland)

Full-time (37 hours) | permanent

c£36,000 depending on experience | Home-based | Hybrid

At the Bone Cancer Research Trust, we exist because families refused to accept a world where primary bone cancer had no hope, no answers and almost no research. Today, we’re the UK’s leading bone cancer charity and every supporter you engage helps push vital research forward and provides comfort to families who need us.

About the role

As Relationship Manager, you’ll build genuine, lasting connections with our Special Funds - our named funds created in honour or memory of someone affected by primary bone cancer, community supporters and local businesses. Your relationship-led approach will help create the family feel connections we’re known for, inspiring long-term support and raising vital income for people affected by primary bone cancer

You will:

• Grow and manage Special Funds, our named funds created in honour or memory of someone affected by primary bone cancer.
• Build strong, meaningful relationships with all our supporters, ensuring every person feels valued and connected.
• Secure and steward regional corporate partnerships
• Meet a regional income target of approx. £300,000
• Represent BCRT in your region, strengthening awareness and community connections at meetings and events.

About you:

• A natural relationship builder with 3+ years’ fundraising experience and a genuine passion for supporter care.
• Compassionate and professional, especially when working with families personally affected by primary bone cancer.
• Organised, proactive and confident working independently, able to balance a varied workload.
• A clear and engaging communicator, bringing warmth and positivity to every interaction.
• Able to travel across the region (car required).

This is a 2-year fixed-term contract role (with view to become a permanent position), paying a salary of £40,000 to £42,000 per annum. This is primarily a homebased role; the postholder is expected to travel to London at least twice a month for meetings and events.

The Philanthropy Manager will work closely with the Head of Philanthropy and Partnerships, and the CEO to develop fundraising opportunities and drive income via major donors, corporates, global foundations and special events. You will support with cultivating and stewarding key relationships and funders, deepening relationships and maximizing their potential by creating new funding opportunities and calls to action.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced high-value fundraiser and a confident relationship manager. You will have demonstrable experience in securing 5-figure gifts from major donors and trusts and foundations and a track record of working with high profile supporters.
