We’re looking for a Head of Communications & Marketing to advance greater public understanding of humanism by reaching new and growing audiences. The role also comes with strategic responsibility for improving brand awareness and driving sales for key products and brands, including Humanist Ceremonies (non-religious weddings, funerals, and naming ceremonies), the award-winning New Humanist magazine (est. 1885), podcasts, books, and a nationwide programme of prestige events and festivals.

This is a senior role with real scope. You will lead our communications team across print, digital, events, and marketing, and make sure what we put out is clear, compelling, consistent, and rooted in our purpose. As well as marketing, this role has responsibility for content, including for our website and social media channels, making sure these are updated with high-quality, accessible, engaging, and well-optimised educational and brand-building materials pitched at a range of target audiences.

This role is about leadership as much as delivery. You’ll be responsible for maintaining a clear organisational communications grid, and for working closely with colleagues across the organisation, particularly the Head of Press & Campaign Communications and the Head of Fundraising, to make sure our messaging, brand, and tone are joined up and effective.

You will be at your best when working to ambitious but achievable KPIs and making strategic decisions on the basis of evidence, including open and clickthrough rates, A/B testing, site behaviour and visit numbers, sales conversions, surveys, and feedback.

If you don't have experience at this level already you will need to be able to showcase to us – both at interview, and in your application – that you have significant experience of decision-making for communications or marketing in a complex organisation. You’ll also need to convince us of your ability to balance leading on strategy with hands-on problem-solving. You’ll be comfortable setting priorities, making judgement calls, and giving clear direction to your direct reports, while also collaborating well across departments and supporting less experienced staff to do their best work. We’re looking for someone who can think long-term, but who also cares about the details and the day-to-day reality of getting communications right.

About the role

But your being organised from the get-go is important.

Attention to detail: in all tasks, you will need to have a good eye for detail to make sure work is completed with a high level of accuracy.

Proactive: there are many activities to get involved with at Shelter, so being proactive ensures you get as much from your role as possible. Within your role you need to take initiative in setting up meetings, asking questions and suggesting/trying new ideas. Beyond this, taking advantage of volunteering in our shops or at events, and visiting local Shelter Hubs, is a great way to understand the cause and sector.

Willingness to be busy: everyone in the team has lots to do and has a range of responsibilities across different areas. To be successful in this role, you need to be willing to be busy during the working day and enjoy the variety this brings.

Flexibility: as this role will support work across the wider Community & Events team throughout the year, it is vital that the successful candidate is adaptable and willing to get stuck into different activities when needed. The Supporter Experience team at Shelter exists to provide expert stewardship to build deep long-term relationships, enhancing the supporter experience to drive income now and increase lifetime values.

Engagement Officer

Location: Home-based South West, Hampshire and Isle of Wight. About the role

The CYP Domestic Abuse Caseworker provides specialist, trauma-informed support to children and young people affected by domestic abuse.

Key Responsibilities:

• Completing risk and needs assessments to address the specific needs of the child or young person in line with VS operating procedures.
• Delivering one-to-one or group interventions (mostly face to face) that promote emotional wellbeing, resilience, and recovery.
• Working closely with families, schools, social care, and partner agencies to ensures that each young person's voice is heard and their needs are prioritised.
• Proactively promoting the service, raising awareness of services & working collaboratively with professionals to improve the access to and quality of services for children & young people.

As Relationships Manager, you’ll work within an ambitious team, securing sustainable income to ensure the youth zone can deliver high-quality, safe and inclusive services for young people. A dynamic and rewarding role at the heart of the Fundraising & Communications team, helping to generate the income needed each year to keep the youth zone sustainable.

From working with high net-worth Individual and organisations on the Founder Patron campaign, to working on Corporate Partnerships, individual giving campaigns, major gifts and high value supporters, to supporting and growing community-led fundraising, planning and delivering events, campaigns and appeals.

Previous fundraising experience is not essential but you will need strong relationship building skills, with a proven track record of business development, income generation and/or account management.

Being able to tell good stories around local case studies to build a picture of why a youth zone is needed in North East Lincolnshire, along with great presentations skills.

You’ll bring excellent administrative skills to the role and experience of using a CRM system as you will need to be involved in the preparation of proposals, gift agreements and reports. Attention to detail and strong organisational abilities are essential.

About the Role

As an Independent Domestic Violence Advocate you will provide high quality support to older people who have been subjected to domestic violence and abuse. You will deliver and provide support in five key areas to support victims to:

• Feel safer
• Feel informed about their rights and the criminal justice system
• Feel listened to and heard
• Be able to implement healthy coping mechanisms
• Be connected with services who are available to help them

Key Responsibilities:

• provide appropriate non-therapeutic support to older people who have been subjected to domestic abuse via their preferred contact method
• carry out out needs and risk assessments to develop tailored individual safety and support plans to address the specific needs of the victim
• use a bespoke case management system to maintain accurate and confidential record keeping and contribute to the collection of outcomes
• liaise with the police, social services, CPS, and other agencies on the client's behalf, with the client's consent maintaining confidentiality
• provide information to victims to enable them to make informed choices about their future options. Ensuring that the voices, needs, rights and legal entitlements of older people are heard and understood by all individuals and organisations.

About You:

Ideally, you will hold an approved and accredited OPVA qualification (or you must be willing to work towards one)

You will need:

• A strong understanding of domestic abuse and violence and the impact this has specifically on older people.
• Experience of working with older people including completing risk assessments and safety planning
• Experience of managing a caseload and keeping clear case management records.
• Experience of adapting communication styles to be able to effectively communicate with older people
• An understanding of trauma informed practice and how to implement this within your work
• A through understanding of the criminal justice system and the Victim's Code
• An understanding of confidentiality, safeguarding and other legal requirements
• Excellent IT skills including experience with working within bespoke case management systems and using Microsoft Office Packages.
• Organised and methodical approach to work with the ability to plan, prioritise and organise workload

Contract and Hours - Permanent, full-time, 36.25 hours per week. Role to commence from Summer 2026 onwards.

A typical working day is 9.15-5.30pm, including a lunch break (unpaid). We support flexible working and part-time arrangements where it is appropriate for the role.

We promote hybrid working with three days per week worked at our office and gallery for full-time staff, and two days per week office and gallery working for part-time staff.

Freelands Foundation is seeking a Building and Operations Manager on a 12-month Fixed Term Contract to oversee the safe and effective running of our 11,000 square foot building in Central London – a multifunctional space housing a library, event spaces and team offices.

This role will lead on health and safety, fire safety and security, and is responsible for creating a comfortable and secure working environment for our team.

A core feature of this position is ensuring the successful running of events, exhibitions and programmes from an operational perspective, coordinating with programme workstreams and managing our Front of House team.
