Head of Development | The Line

As The Line enters its next chapter following its tenth anniversary, we're seeking an ambitious and strategic fundraising leader to help secure our long-term financial sustainability. This is a rare opportunity to shape fundraising for one of London's most distinctive cultural organisations.

The Line is East London's public art trail that connects Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and The O2, following the waterways and the line of the Greenwich Meridian. Our mission is to connect communities and inspire individuals through a dynamic outdoor exhibition programme where everyone can explore art, nature and heritage for free.

Locally rooted and internationally significant, The Line enables artists to connect with people and place in new ways. Recent installations include works by pioneering minimalist sculptor Rasheed Araeen, the first public artwork in the UK by artist Zineb Sedira, and a co-commission with the local community by Turner Prize-winning artist Helen Cammock.

The role

This role is suited to an experienced fundraiser with a strong track record of securing significant income, including six-figure gifts, within the charitable sector. Working closely with the Director and Board, the Head of Development will lead fundraising strategy, strengthen supporter relationships, and diversify income streams to support The Line's future growth and impact.

As a member of the Senior Management Team, you'll secure income from trusts and foundations, individual donors, corporate partners and other sources; build and manage relationships with funders and supporters; identify new opportunities for growth; and ensure excellent stewardship across all fundraising activities. You'll also line manage the Development Coordinator and oversee freelance fundraising support.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading and implementing The Line's fundraising strategy, delivering against agreed income targets and diversifying revenue streams
• Developing a robust pipeline of trusts, foundations, corporate partners and individual donors
• Translating organisational priorities into compelling funding proposals, cases for support and reports
• Building and stewarding relationships with funders, donors, patrons and corporate partners
• Setting and managing income targets, budgets and forecasts with the Director and Director of Finance
• Ensuring fundraising complies with relevant legislation and best practice
• Acting as an ambassador for The Line and its mission

What we're looking for

We're looking for an experienced fundraiser with proven success in generating significant income within the charitable sector, ideally in arts and culture. You'll have:

• Demonstrable experience securing six-figure funding through trusts and foundations, individual giving, public funding and corporate partnerships
• Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills
• Strong understanding of the UK cultural funding landscape and fundraising best practice
• Experience using CRM systems and managing supporter data
• Financial literacy, with experience developing budgets and funding bids
• Commercial awareness and experience negotiating partnership agreements
• Knowledge of GDPR, fundraising regulation and compliance requirements
• Ability to motivate colleagues and drive results

Desirable: senior management experience, established fundraising networks and sector relationships, knowledge of tax-efficient giving, and experience managing donor programmes internationally.

To successfully lead the Grants team and raise voluntary income from a range of Grantmakers including Trusts, Foundations and local Government grant funders contributing to an overall team target of £1-million +. Responsibilities

Income generation

· Lead responsibility for raising current annual team target of £675,000 for restricted and unrestricted income

· Work to agreed metrices including an annual target of £220,000 - £250,000/year with a pipeline including statutory, national & regional grant funders (some being invite only).

· Develop and lead networking plan (internal/external) to secure long-term grant and statutory funding opportunities to help increase financial income year on year.

Account Management

· Lead a stewardship framework, ensuring excellent account management of funders across the team (including own portfolio)

· Lead plans for the year, thinking creatively to develop new engagement opportunities such as panels, breakfast meetings and other events

· Collaborate with other leads and managers in the team to maximise opportunities through relationships, for example Major Donors, Corporate partnerships and Individual Givers.

Management

· Line management two staff members (Senior Grants Fundraiser and Trust Fundraiser), creating a positive and supportive working culture supporting them to meet their targets

· Lead on managing pipeline information on Donorfy, being able to pull reports for information and analysis including:

o Provision of data and narrative for monthly team meetings

o Contribution to Board reporting with narrative and pipeline information

o Analysis for annual planning sessions

Quality and standards

· Ensure all staff and volunteers understand and deliver within Eikon’s safeguarding policies and practices when taking part in fundraising activities.

· Ensure all activities follow the relevant Fundraising Codes of Practice and Eikon’s Ethical Fundraising Policy.

· Prepare relevant Grant Agreements and contractual information.

· Carry out risk assessments for all activities for which you are responsible.

· Carry out required basic due diligence on new funders.

Finance and resources

· Budget responsibility with authorisation up to agreed limits

· Operate within organisational approved budgets, policies and procedures.

Communications and relationships

· Work collaboratively with the Communications Lead to devise annual communications and marketing plans, ensuring Eikon is strategically positioned externally.

· Work collaboratively with service leads ensure new services developed meet funder needs and requirements

Strategy/transformation work

· Lead on developing and delivering annual grants plan

· Participating in a Leads network, contribute regularly to organisation matters including strategies, annual plans and budgeting.

Organisational requirements

The Head of Public Fundraising is a new role at Coeliac UK leading the charity’s public fundraising function. The role focusses on driving sustainable growth across individual giving, community fundraising, events, lottery, raffle, digital fundraising and merchandise. This role is responsible for delivering Coeliac UK’s 5-year fundraising strategy to maximise return-on-investment, grow long term supporter value, and contribute to the charity’s mission. 

The Head of Public Fundraising will embed and deliver comprehensive fundraising strategies, growing Coeliac UK’s supporter base and income, building up new and under-developed income streams and communicating effectively with their audiences to expand their reach, and encourage financial and non-financial support to deliver the organisations mission.

Who are we looking for?

Key to the success of this role is a strong understanding of individual giving fundraising. This role blends the strategic oversight and leadership of a Head of role across multiple income streams, with the hands-on expertise of an IG fundraiser. Experience across other income streams and areas of fundraising delivery would be a huge benefit as the role leads community fundraising and events, will take on digital fundraising - currently led by the Chief Engagement Officer, as well as manage the data and supporter care functions, but experience in individual giving is essential as Coeliac UK has defined that as an area of priority income.

The successful candidate for this role will be someone who has already operated at a senior level within a charity such as at Senior Manager level, or Head of in a specific income stream.

Hybrid working

The role has a hybrid expectation of a minimum of a day a week in the High Wycombe office (HP11 2QW) to build relationships and provide support to the fundraising team, and there will be flexibility required for other in person meetings and events. We're looking for a curious, analytical and proactive Prospect Research Executive to join our Prospect Development team. In this role, you'll help power our fundraising by delivering high-quality prospect research, due diligence and supporter insight that enables our teams to build meaningful relationships with individuals, trusts, foundations and corporate partners.

You'll work closely with colleagues across the organisation to identify new opportunities, uncover valuable connections and provide the intelligence needed to support successful fundraising strategies. From producing prospect profiles and briefing documents to conducting due diligence and maintaining prospect pipelines, you'll play a key role in helping us grow support for young people across the UK.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys finding connections and turning information into actionable insight. You'll thrive in a collaborative environment and be motivated by using your skills to help create life-changing opportunities for young people.

• Experience within prospect research, fundraising, supporter insight or a similar analytical role (desirable).

Our Interim Executive Director will lead JustMoney Movement into the next chapter of our exciting story. The primary focus for the role will be to develop and implement a sustainable future strategy, while providing transitional leadership. 

The JustMoney Movement is a small organisation with a big vision. We are passionate about the role Christians and churches can play in bringing about an economy that works for people and planet.We have a vision of a fairer, greener future, and we believe money is integral to shaping that future. As Christians we believe our use of money should flow from our faith and values such as justice, compassion, the dignity of all, and the importance of caring for creation.  Our current strategic priority is to increase the reach, depth and diversity of engagement of Christian individuals, congregations and networks in the UK with the JustMoney Movement, in order to have a meaningful impact on policy and practice for a fairer, greener future.

Under the leadership of Sarah Edwards, over the past 5 years, we have rebranded from the Ecumenical Council for Corporate Responsibility (ECCR), and grown a substantial profile and programme of education and campaigning work across the UK churches, connecting faith and finance for a fairer, greener world.

We are living in turbulent times where we face interconnected, systemic crises in inequality, nature and the climate, driven by our financial and economic system. We believe our movement building approach, technical expertise, and wide range of collaborations across church, other faith and secular groups, enable us to play a vital role in confronting these crises.

At the same time, small charities face unprecedented challenges at this current moment, and require bold and innovative approaches in order to navigate this context. We are looking for an Interim Executive Director to help us build on this legacy, to secure a sustainable long-term future, while remaining agile and able to seize opportunities as they arise.The role will need to establish a sustainable future strategy and develop our funding strategy, while overseeing the delivery of our current workplan and ensuring sound governance of the charity.

We have a small, dedicated and talented team of staff and contractors delivering the work and a strong, diverse and experienced board, with a new incoming Chair, Simeon Mitchell, who has served as a trustee for a number of years.  We have welcomed four new trustees this year, bringing a wealth of skills, knowledge and enthusiasm.

Interim Executive Director (0.8 FTE, 6 to 12 months)

Salary: £49,493 for 4 days per week (pro rata from FT £61,866).  We have some flexibility to consider 3 days per week.

Location: Hybrid, based at home with option to work 1 day a week in London office. Some travel within the UK.

Contract: 6 to12 months

There is the possibility of a permanent role becoming available at the end of the Interim Executive Director role appointment, subject to funding.

An early, flexible start would be desirable from September/ October 2026.

Given the nature of the role, we are very open to discussions with the right candidate to identify mutually acceptable arrangements for the appointment.

Role description

· Partner with the Board, to develop and deliver JustMoney Movement’s strategy and objectives, rooted in our movement-building theory of change, and our Christian identity, culture and values.  This may include identifying and implementing change, as needed.

· Lead on the creation and delivery of our fundraising strategy to ensure JustMoney Movement’s financial viability for the long-term.  This will build on our current mix of grant funding, alongside our small but long-standing and loyal donor base of individuals and organisational supporters. We need to explore and grow alternative opportunities such as paid services and corporate funding.

· Oversight of operations and finance management, delivered by the Head of Operations.

· Support and empower the JustMoney Movement staff team in the delivery and monitoring of the 26-27 action plan for our education, campaigning and influencing activities. 

· Alongside the Director of Movement Building, represent the organisation externally, seeking opportunities to raise the profile and demonstrate the impact of the organisation, positioning JustMoney Movement as a leading voice on issues of faith and finance.

· Work with the Director of Movement Building to identify and lead on strategic relationships and collaborations with stakeholders, including funders and key partners, in order to achieve our objectives. 

· With the support of the Head of Operations, oversee a strong governance framework to ensure we meet external, legal and regulatory requirements and guidance (including the Charity Governance Code).

Person Specification

Experience:

· Management at board or management level of a charity, and the understanding of the governance requirements this brings

· Developing and implementing a fundraising strategy with a proven track record of raising funds

· Interim or change management, ideally within a small organisation

· People management, ideally within a small organisation, and through change processes

· Strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation for impact

· Working with UK churches (desirable)

· Engaging with questions of economic justice, Christian ethics and/or ethical investment (desirable)

· Campaigning or advocating for social change (desirable)

Knowledge and Skills:

· Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant area (e.g. business, theology, economics)

· Self-motivated with problem solving ability and critical thinking skills

· Outstanding interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

· A strong “can-do” attitude, combining hands-on skills with a strategic mindset

· Exceptional organisational skills, including attention to detail and the ability to multi-task

· Knowledge of Christian ethical approaches to economic justice/ theology of economics (desirable)

· Understanding of the UK churches context and some of the stakeholders with whom JustMoney Movement works

· Understanding of the financial, governance and legal requirements for charities, and their implementation

· IT skills including use of Office 365 to manage a remote team and its work

· Finance skills to oversee and engage with budgeting and accounts.
