We are seeking a Research Funding Officer (Operations) to support the delivery of our research funding programmes, with a particular focus on the integration of the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) grant programme into the WCRF International portfolio. This is a fixed-term role for 18 months.
In this role, you will support the operational delivery of WCRF International’s grant programmes across both pre-award and post-award activities. You will contribute to the administration of grant calls, respond to applicant queries, process applications, support peer review and Panel meetings, and help maintain and develop our grant management system. You will also track research outputs, maintain grant records and contribute to internal reporting and analysis.
You will have a relevant scientific background (e.g. nutrition, public health, cancer biology or a related discipline), with experience working in a research or administrative environment (ideally within academia or research management).You will have a strong analytical mindset and be comfortable working with data, systems and tracking processes, and be highly organised, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Strong communication skills and confidence interacting with a range of stakeholders is key as is being proactive, adaptable and able to work as part of a small, collaborative team.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone with strong organisational and analytical skills who enjoys working with data and complex processes. The postholder will gain a unique insight into the full research funding lifecycle, supporting both the pre-award and post-award stages of international grant programmes. Working closely with experienced colleagues across the Research Funding team, the successful candidate will develop a strong understanding of how research funding programmes are designed, delivered and monitored, while applying their scientific knowledge to real-world research projects. The role provides valuable experience in grant management, research administration and data analysis, offering a strong foundation for a future career in research funding and management, the charity or policy sector, or academic research.

Purpose of the role:
The HR, People and Culture Manager is a recently created role at Back Up in response to our continuous growth and services expansion.
People are central to Back Up’s work. The ideal candidate will be able to both take a lead in defining our future approach to our human resources and fostering a positive workplace culture whilst also providing hands on delivery, and ensuring compliance with UK employment laws. RESPONSIBILITIES:
Recruitment and Staffing:
· Oversee best practice in inclusive recruitment, including impactful and engaging job
postings, screening, interviewing, reasonable adjustments and onboarding of new staff and
Trustees.
· Partner with hiring managers to understand staffing needs and develop effective
recruitment strategies in order to recruit high performing staff which share Back Up’s values.
· Ensure our role descriptions are consistent and in line with the charities current and future
requirements.
· Manage the onboarding for new team members ensuring it is smooth and consistent.
· Ensure team members have the best possible start at Back Up including orientation and
feeling of belonging at the Charity.
· Oversee delivery of exit interviews and analyse feedback to improve retention strategies.
· Prepare contracts and ensure all required paperwork and legal checks are completed accurately and efficiently.
· Deliver comprehensive HR inductions for new staff, ensuring access to policies,
procedures, and essential information from day one.
Employee Relations and Culture:
· Foster a positive and inclusive workplace environment where employees feel valued and
engaged.
· Act as a first point of contact for employee concerns and conflicts, facilitating resolution
and providing support.
· Work with the charity staff Wellbeing Group and Diversity and Inclusion Group to promote
employee well-being initiatives, activities which support an inclusive workplace and
engagement activities to enhance morale.
· Working with the SMT develop a programme of internal communications relating to people management, organisational culture and behaviours
Payroll and Benefits:
· Manage monthly payroll, pension contributions, and employee benefits administration, ensuring records are accurate and staff inquiries are addressed promptly.
· Prepare letters and update the HR system to reflect any changes in employee contracts.
Learning and Development:
· Support the SMT to identify training needs and implement professional development programmes for staff and trustees which are tailored to individual and Charity goals.
· Work closely with the People Development volunteer supporting team member coaching, awareness and self-development.
· Review and coordinate the induction programme and ongoing training for existing staff to ensure continuous learning and development.
· Lead on our e-learning programme, ensuring training not only meets regulatory requirements but inspires and helps team members grow and develop. Ongoing management of the platform.
Performance Management:
· Oversee performance appraisal process in line with Charity’s values and behaviours.
· Provide support and guidance to managers on performance-related issues.
· Line Management of HR administrator providing clear direction, development support and quality assurance across HR administration
Best Practice, Policy Development and Compliance:
· Review and update our staff handbook and HR policies and procedures using Back Up’s tone of voice and ensuring compliance with UK employment law and best practice.
· Ensure all staff are aware of and understand HR policies and procedures through effective communication and training.
· Conduct salary and benefits benchmarks and identify other initiatives which can enhance our employee value proposition and to ensure that the Charity remain competitive and a place where people want to work.
· Stay informed about changes in employment legislation and recommend necessary adjustments to policies.
· Support us to be leaders in inclusive workplace practices delivery of the Disability Confident scheme.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Collaborate with the SMT to align People and Culture operational practice with Charity goals.
· Oversee annual staff survey.
· Manage HR-related budgets, including training and development costs.
· Provide ad-hoc reports and analysis on HR metrics to inform decision-making.
· Support the ethical and responsible use of AI and other technologies across the charity to support our ability to deliver for people with spinal cord injury.

About the role
With ambitious targets to support thousands more children by 2029, Chapter One is seeking a passionate, energetic Fundraising Officer to be an integral part of our Fundraising team. Reporting to our Fundraising Manager, you’ll generate income from a range of existing and new trusts and foundations, along with individual fundraising activities, to contribute towards the 2025-26 fundraising target. The fundraising budget in 2026-27 will be £356,000, when you’ll have an individual target.

Key responsibilities
Deliver the fundraising plan

Work collaboratively with the Fundraising Manager to grow Chapter One’s fundraising portfolio and meet agreed income targets from trusts and foundations.

Maintain a portfolio of existing trusts and foundations, ensuring an excellent cultivation and stewardship journey in order to build relationships and maximise income.

Proactively identify and research new prospective trust funders, finding creative ways to engage with them to secure support.

Create compelling and tailored fundraising applications and reports, ensuring there is a strong emotional case for support and accuracy, to inspire prospects and supporters across trusts and foundations.

Contribute to the highest levels of donor care for supporters, including creative stewardship, adhering to all grant conditions and responding in a timely manner to all enquiries from supporters and prospects.

Research, interpret and present data about literacy and impact that makes a compelling case for Chapter One’s programmes.

Contribute to internal planning and budget setting for restricted and unrestricted activities, setting out clear plans and a pipeline for income generation from trusts and foundations.

Work with the Fundraising Manager, Corporate Partnerships team and Communications team to support the development of strategies and campaigns to grow individual giving from existing volunteers and supporters.

Undertake administrative duties to support the delivery of individual fundraising initiatives including matched-giving campaigns and Payroll Giving.

The role:
Enquiries
- To be the first point of contact for all enquiries into the College managed through a digital ticketing system.
- Respond to enquiries using information and knowledge from all departments of the College, which often involves the interpretation and application of rules and procedures. Use judgement to triage what action is required, where appropriate.
- Respond to all enquiries relating to qualification journeys, which includes information about the qualification/course, assistance in applying and payment, processing updates, help with learning journey on Learning Management System (LMS), the awarding and recertification of qualifications.
- Respond to all enquiries relating to membership, which includes help choosing the appropriate membership type and associated fees, renewals, upgrades, direct debits, and cancellation.
- Respond to all other enquiries, such as information on CoSRH events, and from prospective members about the work and activity of the College.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge about the work and activities of the College to help respond to enquiries.
- Show an interest and understanding of enquirer’s needs, with a view to continually searching for ways to improve the service and their experience.
Qualification processing
- Responsible for the administration and processing of all CoSRH qualifications, recertifications and recertification audits in line with agreed procedures and service level agreements (SLAs).
- Responsible for processing reasonable adjustment and extension requests.
- Work closely with relevant teams when new training, assessments or qualifications are introduced to ensure accurate administration and processing.
- Support the administration and processing of applications from outside the UK for international qualifications
- Continuously monitor system and processes so they are fit for purpose for efficient qualification processing.
Membership
- Take an active role in membership processing, supporting the annual membership renewals campaign (November-March) and adjustments throughout the calendar year.
Operational support
- Work with the Membership and Insights Manager to help identify trends and patterns from ticket enquiries to help drive improvement.
- Work closely with the Data Manager and Digital Manager to raise issues with the Customer Relationship Management system (CRM), Learning Management System (LMS) and website, which have been identified through ticket enquiries, and help where possible to support with a resolution.
- Undertake other administrative work as requested by the Membership and Insights Manager
- Take an active role in data input and collection to help drive insights, improvements and quality control.
- Support the longer-term development and improvement of systems and processes, and contribute to wider departmental discussions.
Governance
- Support the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to help with efficiencies and quality assurance in the team.
- Create canned responses for use on frequent and complex enquiries to help aid efficiency in service delivery.
- Ensure compliance with GDPR and data protection principles while managing enquiry and application information.
- Actively participate in the delivery of continuous improvement, working collaboratively with colleagues across the College.
- Ensure all actions carried out in line with CoSRH’s standard policies and processes.

Role Overview
The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing and delivering the day-to-day operations of the Schools Consent Project across England and Wales. The role
The Events Assistant will support our Engagement Officers in the day-to-day coordination and delivery of the events and outreach, such as our Fellas’ Forums and Fellas’ Fairs. Working alongside the Engagement Officer, Engagement Manager, Office Administrator, and wider team, they will assist in the promotion, organisation, facilitation, and evaluation of events and engagement activities, including large-scale events.
