We support a gentleman who would like for somebody to visit him for company and friendship. He enjoys time at home, watching TV, playing board games and baking, but mostly enjoys being outside when the weather is fine. He enjoys taking walks, cycling, bowling and meals out and would love for a friend to spend time and enjoy doing this with him. He would like to meet a volunteer to get to know and eventually enjoy getting out and about.

We offer a lifelong befriending service for adults with learning disabilities. Matching the skills and interests of passionate visitors with the specific hobbies and interests of the people we visit. Visitors visit six times a year to create a 1-2-1 connection, offer companionship, encourage people to do the things they enjoy and check-in on their wellbeing. In many cases, the visitor is the only person in someone’s life who isn’t paid to be there for them.

This is a Stop and stay, let’s get busy visitor role which means the person you will be visiting can communicate actively with you and take part in choosing or planning activities. As you get to know each our you may choose to ‘go out’ either with or without support from the staff that supports the person you visit. Your volunteer manager will be happy to help you with ideas and suggestions for things you can do. Visits will vary in length but tends to be around an hour or longer, depending on what you do.

In this role you will spend quality time with the person you visit and could do a range of different activities like: • Sitting and having a chat • Checking in on their well- being • Going out to a local café/pub for a meal/drink • Enjoying a walk • A craft activity at home • Reading a book/magazine together

Role Description:

This role sits within our Men’s Minds project, based in Hounslow. The aim of the service is to improve men’s mental health outcomes by developing a mental health network supported and directed by the voices of its members.

This will be achieved through three service strands: 1) Peer support network, 2) Psychoeducation workshops, addressing common needs of men’s mental health 3) Outreach support to raise awareness of men’s mental health and promote this service.

The role of the Peer Volunteer will be to support the Project Coordinator with developing and delivering various workshops and events. You will also take the lead in developing peer led support. Staff within the service will provide person-centred, practical and emotional support, face to face in a group basis to individuals who may have challenging life experiences.

At the start of the placement you will be in weekly training sessions and shadow mental health groups with the general public. Over time you would develop skills to run these groups and using your own interests create workshops for these service users. We would be keen to work with you to develop your own interests related to this project such as marketing, fundraising or strategy.

This volunteer position tends to attract students training in psychology, counselling and or social work. However, we would welcome your application should you be able to demonstrate a keen interest in this field.

We want to change the perceptions of male caring and fatherhood and support more partners to get involved because it creates value for everyone.

Supporting men to be equal and active parents from the start is key for gender equality. Research from Sweden suggests that every additional month of paternity leave taken by fathers increases the mother’s lifetime earnings by 6.7% (Johansson, 2010).

80% of the gender pay gap is attributed to the motherhood penalty (World Economic Forum, 2022)

The gender pay gap more than doubles for women over 40 (ONS, 2022)

Yet despite increasing willingness and interest in taking an active parenting role, in 2022, dads spent, on average, just 55 minutes per day with their children (ONS, 2023).

This is largely due to the fact that one in three working dads don’t feel comfortable talking to their employer about family commitments and/or are not adequately supported to be the best dads and partners they can be.

We have developed an affordable, comprehensive online platform called "Father's Ed" that provides guidance, support, wellbeing services and a community for new or expectant fathers. This includes peer support between dads, science-based online, digital well-being courses covering a range of strange and anxiety triggers, e. g. financial well-being, loneliness, insomnia, etc.). We are also working on providing mental health services for new fathers through partnerships.

Jabalie

Jabalie is a UK charity working internationally with survivors and individuals that are at high risk of gender-based violence.

“Gender-based violence” (GBV) is violence or abuse that is directed against a person or community because of their gender identity or expression, or the violence or abuse affects persons of a particular gender disproportionately. Gender-based violence affects people of all genders, including women and girls, men and boys, transgender individuals, and non-binary people. However, women and girls are disproportionately affected.

Some key statistics include: • One in three women and girls globally will experience some form of violence in their lifetime. • One in four men globally have experienced sexual or physical violence by an intimate partner. • One in four LGBTQ+ individuals have experienced violence or abuse by an intimate partner.

Many victims feel unable to leave their relationship and for those that do, many return to their abuser for a variety of reasons - for example, because they are financially dependent on them, or remain emotionally controlled by them. It takes an average of 7 times for a victim to leave an abusive relationship permanently.

Jabalie is a UK charity that aims to educate and empower survivors and individuals at high-risk of gender-based violence to promote their safety, autonomy and economic independence. We are developing an education and empowerment programme to help build survivors' knowledge, skills and confidence so they can build their lives outside the shelter and become financially independent.

The programme will have 5 areas: (1) Understanding GBV; (2) Skills Development; (3) Legal Rights; (4) Women's Health; and (5) Mental Health. We will also have a training of trainers programme, advocacy against GBV, and are building a community of survivors and GBV activists. I've attached our Strategic Plan 2024-27 with further details.

Our pilot programme will be created in the UK and Kenya using a model that can be upscaled internationally.

We provide an education and empowerment programme, training, advocacy and a community platform.

We are partnering with local community organisations to deliver the programme to communities.

Marketing Strategist

Volunteer Role Description (remote, unpaid)

Jabalie is a UK charity that aims to educate and empower survivors and individuals at high-risk of gender-based violence to promote their safety, autonomy and economic independence.

We are a small charity that is entirely volunteer-led. We are therefore seeking a proactive volunteer to assist our Marketing and Communications Trustee in building the marketing, communications and branding strategy for Jabalie.

This role includes:

• Creating a social media strategy and content calendar to raise our brand awareness;
• Pitching ideas for social media posts related to raising awareness of gender-based violence and the other areas of our work (skills development, legal rights, women's health and mental health);
• Creating and overseeing marketing campaigns to boost engagement and reach donors for fundraising;
• Conducting market research to identify trends, opportunities, and competitor activities;
• Ensuring brand consistency across all social media channels;
• Analysing marketing data to track performance and optimise future strategies; and

As a small organisation, we are looking for a volunteer that has a few hours per week to commit to this role. The time commitment will likely reduce once we have made progress with our strategy. The period of volunteering is flexible, but we will prioritise applicants that would like to commit to 6 months or more.

From elderly moggies to energic kittens, every day across the UK cats and kittens are in need of a temporary place to stay, and lots of love and TLC! We need more fosterers like you to provide a safe, temporary haven for cats and kittens and provide them with everything they need before they get their chance to land on their four paws and make a house a home.

• Ensure you have all you need in place to foster the cat(s) in your care, for example equipment and food
• Cover all your foster cats’ expenses and agreed out-of-pocket expenses in line with our Expenses Policy

We are specifically looking for indoor - single room fosterers.

• Enrich the cats’ experience in care including play, exercise and appropriate handling/interaction

• Introduce cats to prospective adopters so they can find their forever home

Time expectation

Our volunteer fosterers usually spend around one and a half hours per day (around 10 to 13 hours per week) in this role, but this might vary depending on the number of cats or kittens in care.

As a Grassroots Organiser, you will play a pivotal role in making this vision a reality by organising campaign events and actions in your local area and bringing together a community of like-minded people to advocate for animals.

As a Grassroots Organiser, you will change animal lives by:

• Organising events and actions in your local area
• These will include peaceful protests, public outreach, social meet-ups and leafleting.
• Ideally you will organise 1 event every 1-2 months
• We will provide you with all the support and materials you need, as well as covering relevant expenses
• Growing a community of advocates by promoting your events and encouraging others to join you, bringing people together for the animals to create change
• Joining us at national events organised by staff team
• Taking campaign actions remotely, such as writing emails, letters and social media actions
• And much more!

If you’re excited by the prospect of leading and organising effective actions at a local level, all while making a genuine difference to animals, this is the role for you.

You will be supported directly by THL staff members who will steward you throughout your time with us, including a full onboarding process to get you started. No prior experience is needed and we’ll give you everything you need to build your skills and take action.

There is no set time commitment for this role, all we ask is that you can organise at least 1 event every 1-2 months. On average, it takes around 4-6 hours to deliver an event (including planning and delivery).
