Role Overview
We are seeking a confident and compassionate volunteer to co-facilitate our mental health and wellbeing programmes for adults who care for or support young people struggling with their mental health. Working alongside an ODC staff facilitator, you'll help create safe, inclusive spaces that encourage open conversation, emotional safety, and mutual respect.
This role is ideal for someone with lived or professional experience of mental health who is confident working with groups and interested in supporting others. You’ll contribute to meaningful sessions that empower adults and indirectly benefit young people across Oxfordshire.
We ask all volunteers to be open, honest, and reflective about the skills they already bring, the areas they’d like to develop, and their current mental health and wellbeing so that we can support you to facilitate safely and sustainably.

Key Tasks
As a facilitator, your activities may include, but are not limited to:

Undertake appropriate safeguarding training, be alert to safeguarding concerns, follow ODC’s safeguarding procedures, and report any concerns promptly to the designated safeguarding lead.

Assist with setting up and packing down sessions, and help manage session resources as needed

Take part in session debriefs, offering insights and feedback to support ongoing programme improvement

Participate in relevant training and supervision, including safeguarding, ODC policies, programme orientation, and ongoing reflective practice

Work alongside ODC staff, upholding our values around co-production, youth voice, and mental health support

We help people to feel safe, develop hope for a better future, and achieve their personal goals. These goals may include rebuilding relationships with family members and friends or connecting more with their local community.

Creative writing is a great way to express yourself using your own creativity and imagination through story telling or poetry. It is an opportunity to reflect on your own experiences and put it down on paper. Creative writing has been shown to improve emotional and mental well-being. Through creative writing, we can gain insight into our emotions, develop self-expression and communication skills, cultivate empathy and understanding of others, boost our imagination and creativity.
What you will be doing
- Lead and facilitate a weekly Creative Writing Group, encouraging participants to explore their thoughts and feelings through writing exercises, prompts, and storytelling.
- Guide a subsequent Feelings Forum where participants can share and discuss emotions sparked by the writing session or current experiences in a respectful and supportive atmosphere
- Foster an inclusive, non-judgmental environment where all voices are heard and valued
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the organisation’s safeguarding and mental health protocols
- Prepare session materials and adapt activities to meet the needs of diverse participants

YOUR ROLE AS HR & VOLUNTEERING MANAGER:
In this vital set-up phase and initial launch period, you will be instrumental in:

Establishing the HR & Volunteering Function: Designing and setting up all foundational systems and processes for our people operations, both for volunteers and future staff.

Volunteer Recruitment & Selection: Leading the charge to attract, interview, and select a diverse cohort of passionate volunteers, including our crucial mentors and programme developers.

Induction & Training: Developing and delivering engaging induction programmes and ongoing training modules that equip all new volunteers with the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need.

We are looking for an additional volunteer to join the friendly team at our refugee and asylum seeker support charity, to assist with casework. Clients come to us with queries on a wide range of issues, for example around asylum support, poverty, bank accounts, eVisas, housing, benefits, English classes etc. We need someone with good general knowledge of how to work with UK systems, who enjoys supporting people and is able to hit the ground running and work with minimal supervision.
Role outline
The casework volunteer will be asked to see individual clients who come to our weekly drop-in session with queries or requests for support, to offer what help they can with the query in the time available, to agree any follow-up needed, and to keep a very brief record of the problem and action taken. The volunteer will have access to our casework information resource, and many queries can also be responded to using the information sheets for clients available on our website. There will always be at least one other person to turn to with any queries, either our service delivery lead or other experienced casework volunteers. All volunteers are expected to follow RRSG policies and procedures eg. around safeguarding and data protection

- Fluent in English
- Familiar with dealing with UK systems eg. health services, banks, etc.
- Confident in dealing with other agencies on the phone and in writing
- Experience in supporting others to solve practical problems
- Able and willing to use own laptop for the work
- Able to use RRSG IT systems
- Reliable, trustworthy, strong interpersonal skills, and committed to assisting the client group
- Able to commit to attending sessions in Haslingden, Rossendale on Wednesday mornings 10.30-12.30, at least twice monthly on average.

Role: Head of Local Operations (Scotland & Northern Ireland)
Job Description:
Youth Advantage UK is seeking a volunteer Head of Local Operations to lead the launch and on-going delivery of its commissioned research projects in Scotland and Northern Ireland. The focus of these projects will be obtaining and analysing primary and secondary data in order to help smaller community organisations improve their ways of working and effectively report on their impact. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring their teams deliver these projects within the agreed time-scales and in line with the goals agreed with the commissioning organisations, growing Youth Advantage’s reputation and reach.
Working closely with the Departmental Director, the ideal candidate will use their prior experience to effectively contribute to the organisation’s ability to enable evidence-based, positive local change. They should have excellent leadership, writing and speaking skills, IT literacy, and the ability to work well independently and in a team.
This role reports directly to the Director of Local Operations.
