NEAT is looking for people to take a leadership role as Chairs/Vice Chairs of our Local Governing Committees (LGCs). We're open to hear from any candidates who are motivated to contribute to the enhancement of education in our schools, whether that be with years of education experience, or with new insights and innovative thinking about how schools and Academy Trusts can and should support learners and other stakeholders.We are looking for people who can work with a range of people to support our schools, leading the governors and coordinating with school and trust leaders and external stakeholders.
Our LGC members (school governors) come from a wide range of backgrounds. What they have in common is that they want to help our schools be the best they can be and our pupils to succeed. People who know our local communities bring real insight to the LGC.
We're especially keen to support people who may not have much opportunity or experience with governing bodies, and those from underrepresented groups. If you have a passion for supporting pupils and some relevant skills or experience, we're keen to hear from you.
As a governance volunteer, our LGC members have the opportunity to use and develop their skills in:

There's a wealth of opportunities for personal and professional development, networking, and working with a range of people from different backgrounds, professions, and life experience.
Our governance volunteers (school governors) have direct impact in the community through:
- decision making in the best interests of pupils to improve their education, wellbeing and future prospects and raise community aspirations
- shaping school policies and aims, allowing teachers to focus on delivering high-quality educational experiences
- stakeholder engagement to ensure that the voices of staff, parents, pupils and other stakeholders are heard
Most LGC members have a four-year term of office, except for co-opted members who are appointed for one year. They attend around four meetings each year, which are usually held late afternoon/early evening during term-time. LGC members are also involved in scrutiny activities in school, which usually happen once or twice a term during the school day. LGC members also participate in decision-making panels (for admissions and exclusions) for schools in the Trust. The average time commitment for our LGC members is 8-12 hours per month.
For LGC Chairs, there is need to be involved in contact with a range of stakeholders within the school, the community, and across the trust. This will include more frequent meetings in school, possibly during the day, although many of these may be outside normal school hours. Depending upon school priorities, we would expect the typical Chair time commitment to be around 15-20hrs per month, although some of this can be done online and by phone around work and home commitments.
NEAT takes safeguarding seriously, and all governance volunteers are required to undertake a vetting process (including DBS check) during appointment to best safeguard our pupils and schools.

Your Role
1. Guest Outreach & Curation (Primary):

Lead strategy to find, vet, and schedule guests from the Black British Caribbean community who are ready to share lived experiences of childhood sexual trauma in a respectful, empowering, and supported environment.

Manage the guest outreach pipeline via Airtable, Trello, or Notion.

Liaise with our team to ensure a trauma-informed, mission-aligned guest journey.
2. Partnerships & Sponsorships:

Identify and secure sponsorships and partnerships with charities, organisations, government bodies, and brands aligned with our values.

Training and Support
We will provide training and an induction which covers all aspects of the role. On-going support and supervision will be provided by staff throughout your time with us. We offer a tour of our exhibitions with the artist(s) or a member of staff prior to their opening. This will give you a first hand insight into the concept, processes and artist’s vision behind the exhibition.

A bit about this role...
Every penny counts when it comes to improving the lives of the thousands of cats and kittens across the UK that need our help each year. Our Collection Box Volunteers help us raise vital funds by collecting and distributing collection boxes in their local area. Making a difference can mean as little as raising 20p, which is enough to feed one cat in our care for a day, to £150 which is the average cost of a cat in our care.
What can I expect to be doing?
As a flexible role, you have the choice to be involved in the following:
- Researching local shops, pubs and businesses to place Collection Boxes
- Delivering Collection Boxes to locations
- Recording donations and thanking local businesses and supporters
- Collecting and replacing Collection boxes when they're full
- Sharing your passion for cat welfare and promoting the work of Cats Protection

For the role of the Volunteer Kitchen Assistant, a background in food is desirable but not essential. If you have experience working in a kitchen, a passion for food and sustainability, and a willingness to learn new skills whilst working in a small team, you would be a great fit for this role!
What will I be doing?
- Helping to plan, create, and cook meals from surplus food for volunteer and staff lunches.
- Carrying out routine kitchen cleaning, health and safety checks, and completing all relevant paperwork.
- Assisting with one- off corporate or fundraising events.
- Representing FareShare in a courteous and professional manner at all times.
What we need you to be:
- Minimum of 18 years old
- Passionate about food and saving surplus food from going to waste
- Positive, friendly and personable, able to interact well with different people
- Good with numbers, identifying different foods, writing clearly
- Able to work well in a team and on your own
- Able to follow FareShare’s policies & procedures

DIY Skills Advisers (DIYSA) Volunteer
If you’re looking for a varied, hands-on volunteering role that makes a difference in people’s lives while supporting clients to learn new skills, then look no further than this exciting role.
Shelter’s DIY Skills Advisers (DIYSA) help people to gain fundamental DIY skills to build a positive future in their homes after a prolonged period of homelessness, turning a house into a home. They also help people to improve and maintain their homes, often preventing eviction. Referrals to the DIYSA service can be received from both Shelter colleagues and support staff from local partner organisations.
The DIYSA team works with individuals, sharing their skills to enable them to participate in home improvements, teaching them how to paint, wallpaper, build flat-pack furniture and gardening. As well as support for individuals, the DIY Skills Advisers run workshops across the country to bring communities together and upskill those who attend, providing clients with energy saving advice, educating them around cutting costs and improving energy efficiency in the home.
This role is an opportunity to make a real difference to the households we assist. You’ll be developing your own knowledge and skills to assist local people and households with a range of housing disrepairs and challenges as well as providing practical DIY guidance You will gain experience of volunteering within a recognised national housing charity, while supporting your local community.
Suggested Involvement: The role is flexible, however due to the nature of the role, requires you to be available for the day, in accordance with the DIYSA’s diary.
Availability: This volunteering opportunity will take place within our working hours, Monday-Friday, 9am – 5pm
Location: Shelter Birmingham, 38 The Priory Queensway, Birmingham, B4 7LA, however this is a community-based role, visiting people in their own homes in and around Birmingham so travelling will be required.

As a DIYSA Volunteer, you’ll be supporting the day-to-day work of DIYSA as they provide advice, guidance and skills to households in Birmingham.

Main Tasks include

Working alongside the DIYSA to provide DIY repairs, teach households DIY skills,

Accompany the DIYSA, visiting people at their homes, and assessing the repair/skill need

Supporting the DIYSA with the delivery of community-based workshops in skills such as drills workshops, gardening, energy saving practices and help around the management of mould.
Skills and experience required

Your main role is to support the DIYSA and help them complete jobs in a timely and effective manner

You don’t need to have a background in DIY for this role. We are looking for a willing learner who has excellent communication and listening skills
