Under the steer of its Chief Executive and Board of Directors, Spectra’s outstanding staff team provides supportive, knowledgeable, and non-judgemental services, all of which are peer-led, meaning they are delivered by people with lived and learned experience. We are now seeking suitably experienced and committed individuals to join our Board as Directors of the CIC.

Director with Fundraising Experience: You will provide strategic direction for the organisation around fundraising, including helping to shape and support our fundraising strategy around diversifying our funds and growing our individual giving. You will support Spectra’s delivery of statutory and grant-funded services, help us in advancing our vision, and provide constructive scrutiny and oversight of the Chief Executive and the work of Spectra’s staff.

Director with Communications, Marketing, and PR Experience: You will provide strategic direction for the organisation around communications, marketing, and PR. You will support our plans to increase our reach and brand, further our communications work and strategy, including social media marketing and campaigning, and enhance our PR opportunities. You will support Spectra’s delivery of statutory and grant-funded services, help us in advancing our vision, and provide constructive scrutiny and oversight of the Chief Executive and the work of Spectra’s staff.

Spectra is based in Vauxhall, South London. It is expected that you will attend five meetings (in the evening, currently online on a Monday evening) and two SMT/Board Away Days each year (currently in person). In addition, it is envisaged that you will contribute your expertise outside of Board meetings on occasion, e.g., to review service or planning reports, to input into a focus group, etc.

About the role

As Treasurer, you will chair the Finance Committee to ensure robust financial management and oversight across a diverse portfolio of services. We are seeking an experienced finance professional to provide strategic financial oversight for a dynamic charity group . We need someone with demonstrable senior finance experience and expertise in financial management and strategy at board level. You should have previous experience as a trustee or treasurer of a charity, combined with commercial acumen and board-level experience in a complex organisation.

Your background should include an understanding of group structures and organisations with diverse income streams. You will also have a strategic mindset and be genuinely aligned with Coram’s mission and values, bringing flexibility and responsiveness to the role.

You’ll be joining us at an exciting time as we develop the Coram Institute for Children and continue expanding our reach and impact across the group. This is your chance as an established finance leader to make a positive change for children in the UK and beyond.

• Time commitment

The role involves approximately 15 meetings per year, each lasting around 2 hours. This includes 4 Board meetings and 4 Finance Committee meetings, typically held in the morning. 4 Investment Committee meetings are usually held in the late afternoon, 2 Audit Committee meetings and 1 Annual Court meeting in the late afternoon or early evening. This also includes meeting and liaison with the CFO and the Group Directors.

Most meetings are held in person at our historic Coram Campus in Bloomsbury, with occasional hybrid attendance available. Meeting timings are scheduled flexibly to accommodate trustees’ availability, and we work hard to ensure the schedule works for all our volunteer trustees.

About the Project

Creative Health &… is a series of snapshots designed to promote the benefits of creative health across different healthcare settings. We intend for these to be used to inform our research about who is integrating creative health into their services.

At Cayr Charity, we are looking for volunteers to support the research and writing of these short documents, ensuring they are informative, accessible, and practical.

What’s Involved?

• Each volunteer will take on 1 to 3 topics, depending on their availability and expertise.

• Volunteers will conduct light research, compile key evidence, and draft content using a structured template provided.

• The aim is for each to be around 600 to 800 words each (depending on findings) and will follow a consistent format which will be provided.

Time Commitment

• Estimated 8-10 hours per one-pager, including research and drafting.

• Work is flexible and can be done remotely at your own pace.

• Drafts are due within 5 weeks of you starting, with feedback provided.

As a member of the Board of Trustees this position will support the Executive Board to deliver our organisational strategy and ensure that our Charity has in place appropriate and effective controls to deliver outstanding standards of care and services to all stakeholders.

Key skills and experience for this Trustee role

• Extensive health service experience at leadership level in either primary or secondary care

• Clinical experience in community care with shown ability to enable change management

• Quality standards and requirements of the Care Quality Commission

• Ideally, active in clinical practice

• Safeguarding (adults and children), risk management and data management

• Keen interest in professional education, research and development

• Developments within the field of palliative care
