Single Parents Support and Advice Services is a Charitable Incorporated Company with over 35000 members UK wide. 

Our charity founder and director, Nicola Booth, took the initiative to set up SPSAS in 2012, with the purpose to reduce isolation, loneliness, and to promote equal and fair treatment amongst Single Parents and their Children. We also aim to help, advise and support single / lone parents by giving them access to support and services that they normally would not be able to access for varied reasons. We try to eliminate the stigma attached to being a single parent in society, within all ethnicities across the UK. 

Our charity runs solely on donations and all members of our charity, including the director are currently working on a non-paid voluntary basis. Despite these hurdles, we feel we have made a positive impact with our services. 

We are looking for a solicitor or barrister to occasionally supervise our legal student advisors currentlystudying LPC/BPC. The role is based remotely

Key Responsibilities:

Your duties will include, but are not limited to, will include the supervision of students carrying out legal work, including some legal advice activity, 

Essential

·Be a qualified solicitor/barrister with experience of family law and various other laws;

·Have a valid practice certificate 

·Commitat least 1 day a week for a minimum 3-month period

·Have proven networking and public speaking skills;

We are looking for volunteers to help with our social media. We want to massively improve and increase our content from TikTok to You Tube. So much goes into social media from the physical filming and scripts to making the small everyday promotional posts to bigger videos, editing and posting them. We need people to help with every aspect of social media  But don’t panic we are not asking one person to do all of this! So keep reading....

Who are we looking for?

• Somebody who is fun loving
• Be creative. Content creation is all about being creative.

• Willing to learn or has knowledge of editing and posting videos

• No previous experience is necessary but a willingness to learn is essential.

Key tasks

• Schedule and post platform-specific content across Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and YouTube.

• Monitor the internal marketing calendar daily for updates and changes.

• Reply to comments, DMs, and replies in a timely manner using our unique Roots brand voice, as well as using automation tools for support.

• Collaborate with team members across Roots for content delivery and queries.

Role (Volunteer, unpaid): Communitions Officer

Role Description: 

Obuyisi bw'Omu Initiative empowesr Ugandan communities with mental health, WASH, education, and climate resilience initiatives.

What you will do :

• Content Creation: Develop press releases, social media content, newsletters, and blog articles that align with our mission and campaigns.

• Media Outreach: Build relationships with journalists, influencers, and media outlets to enhance visibility.

• Brand Management: Maintain consistent messaging and tone across all communication channels.

• Campaign Support: Collaborate with other departments to promote events, fundraising initiatives, and community stories.

Why do we need your help?

Food banks provide three-day emergency food parcels for people in crisis, working in partnership with organisations across the community. Drivers play a fundamental role in the running of the food bank, collecting food donations from a variety of locations such as supermarkets or churches across the local area as well as distributing the sorted donations from the warehouse to the local food bank centres. You will be given all the required training and provided with ongoing support and development opportunities. You will also have a main contact at the food bank throughout your time volunteering with us.

What will you be doing?

• Collecting food donations from collection points such as supermarkets, schools and churches within Brent

• Coordinating with the warehouse manager and supermarket community champions

• Delivering the food donations to the warehouse, located in Willesden

• Transporting sorted food from the warehouse across two food banks within Brent

• Regular loading and unloading of vehicles, helping your driver buddy

• Regular driving across the local area

The skills you need:

• Clean and current driving licence

• Physically strong and capable of carrying heavy boxes of canned foods

• Experienced and confident driver, you will be driving a small van around Brent

• Adaptable and flexible, sometimes we need to change your driving route or times

• Personable and committed, you will be the representatives of Brent Foodbank amongst our supermarket community

• You will need to follow the driving policy of the food bank

• You should enjoy being part of a volunteer team

• Have an eye for detail and be able to solve problems

• If you can’t drive but enjoy being out on the road, you can also be a driver buddy!

This role is really flexible! You could choose to volunteer at one event for a couple of hours or attend multiple fundraising events.

At Hestia we have a PIPEs programme, which focuses on expanding our ‘Psychological Informed Physical Environments’ approach across our accommodation-based services. This approach centres the needs and choices of the people who use our services, believing that their contribution creates a conducive environment which supports recovery. Ensuring that our indoor and outdoor spaces at Hestia are PIPE through design, supports people to feel physical and emotional safety, to support them to rebuild their life beyond crisis and allows us to consider the needs of different groups people we work with at Hestia.

What you will be doing

• The setting layout is meaningful for different groups and for the desired interaction
• It is a looked after, organised, tidy, a comfortable and positive space for all to use
• There are spaces to speak in confidence with staff, but all other spaces are shared with everyone who visits the space
• An atmosphere is created that is conducive to health and wellbeing
• To inspect the environment and assess whether it meets a set criteria
• To provide written or verbal feedback on review of the visit
• To take part in review and training sessions, to support continuous development of the PIPE programme
• This role is open to volunteers and people who use our services and would like to volunteer their time. We are also looking for volunteers to also support people who would like to get involved in this role but feel less confident finding the Hestia locations. As part of the role, you may be asked to meet another volunteer at a certain location such as a train station and accompany them to the service

• Identify and secure new partnerships with organisations, sponsors, institutions, donors and individuals aligned with our mission.
• Research and pursue funding opportunities, including grants and corporate sponsorships.
• Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.
• Develop proposals, pitches, and presentations to support outreach, collaborate on campaign messaging and fundraising events
• Support programme expansion by assessing community needs and tracking ongoing community engagement
• Support in preparing donor reports and impact summaries for donors and investors.
• Manage email communication, respond to inquiries, and support follow-ups with prospects and partners
• Participate in business meetings, document key takeaways, and track follow-up actions.

Volunteer Opportunities with Beyond the Streets

Do you want to invest your time supporting women who are marginalised in Tower Hamlets? Do you feel called to social justice and want to do something about it? For over 20 years we have been supporting women involved in selling sex.  Many of the women credit our Door of Hope project with being key to their sense of wellbeing whilst on the streets and for some, their exit from selling sex.

We are recruiting new volunteers to continue delivering consistent outreach, early morning, and late evening, spanning different days of the week.

We need volunteers to work with the women we support. We are looking for women with:

• A vision for reaching out to women involved in/affected by selling sex/sexual exploitation.
• Empathy, compassion and a non-judgmental approach.
• An ability to build trusting relationships whilst maintaining personal boundaries.

What you can expect from us

• An opportunity to work together to see an end to sexual exploitation.
• A friendly, supportive, and experienced team.

• If you live within 8 miles of Tower Hamlets, we can cover the cost of late night, safe transport to and from the outreach meeting place via Taxi.

Orchards is looking for a reliable and organised volunteer to support our vision to see more women free from sexual exploitation. This role offers hands-on experience in the VAWG sector and the chance to contribute to the smooth running of our supported accommodation services.

The ‘be you’ project aims to provide a safe and inclusive space in every Hestia refuge to support women to gain confidence, socialise, develop and most importantly enjoy themselves!

Each refuge will have a weekly or bi-weekly meeting, where all the women will be invited to join. There will be tea, coffee, juice, cake and fun activities such as knitting, colouring, jewellery making and much more.

What you will be doing

• facilitating an agreed time table of weekly activities for the women in the refuge to include set up, explaining any instructions, assisting women to complete the activities, keeping track of activity materials and keeping a note of needed replacements for staff to re-order
• Visit a refuge or refuges on a regular basis (once a week or once every other week).
• Purchase and bring refreshments and snacks (you will be given the money to do this)
• Facilitate each group – this will include chatting with the women about that week’s topic and what support the ‘be you’ project can offer them.
• Engaging with the women to find out how the activities are going and keeping staff up to date on feedback and on any suggestions for new activities or improvements
• Keep records and feedback important information to your supervisor.
