Time commitment
Expect to give approximately 1–2 days per month, including:
- Attending board and committee meetings (in-person or remote)

- Participating in training and occasional college visits
The time commitment is manageable alongside a full-time role—and many employers actively support staff to take on governance roles as part of their professional development.
Where you’ll be needed
Some colleges offer remote governance and meetings take place online. This may suit you best, or we may suggest a role where you volunteer on a hybrid basis at a college within a reasonable distance from you. You’ll work alongside a small, motivated team of volunteer Directors to ensure our operations are legally sound and ethically robust. You do not need extensive leadership experience - just sound judgement, commitment to good practice, and a willingness to learn and contribute.
Key Responsibilities

Oversee and advise on legal matters affecting the organisation (contracts, compliance, policies, etc.)

Support with Companies House and CIC Regulator filings and governance updates

Ensure that policies meet relevant legislation (GDPR, safeguarding, equality, etc.)

Review partnership or funding agreements when needed

Contribute to the organisation’s strategic decisions as part of the Director Board

Uphold the organisation’s values of inclusion, integrity, and community empowerment

brain tumour patients, together with their families.
We fund brain tumour research in Yorkshire; we hope this research, dedicated to identifying new

About the Role

Exam Star – Southwark, London
We are looking for a volunteer tutor to support Shalom, a Year 11 student preparing for his GCSE Maths (Edexcel) and Science (AQA Chemistry and Physics) exams in summer 2026.
Shalom is polite, hardworking and keen to learn. He uses Sparx Maths and other revision materials but needs help building confidence and working through questions step by step.
Tutoring is one hour a week, on Sunday (any time) or Monday after 4:00 PM, via Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Google Meet.
Exam Star Learner, based in Southwark, provides affordable one-to-one tutoring to help children and young people aged 5 to 18 achieve their potential.
