Support, guidance and keeping you safe

At Cats Protection we believe our volunteers should be happy and confident in their roles. We provide support and guidance from our National Cat Centre and through our regional and local volunteer groups and teams. We offer engaging online and face-to-face training, expenses and have policies and processes to help volunteers get the most out of their time with us.

The wellbeing of our people is important and at Cats Protection we are committed to safeguarding children, adults at risk and all those that we come into contact with as part of our activities.

They directly help cats by raising awareness of Cats Protection. Refettorio Felix is a community kitchen with an open-door policy in the Earl's Court area. We provide a safe haven and a warm, welcoming atmosphere for those facing homelessness and financial crises.

Using surplus food ingredients, our kitchen freshly prepares a three-course lunch for up to 140 people per weekday. We are looking for friendly and dedicated volunteers to support us in our mission to provide fresh and nutritious meals to our guests.

As a research and data entry volunteer, you will conduct targeted web research based on clear guidelines, then organize your findings in structured internal databases. Music has long been held as an effective and soothing way to help relieve stress and improve mental health. Do you have a passion for playing the guitar and would like to teach others?

Playing a guitar in a group allows for time to focus on the here and now, providing total mindfulness. This enables us to forget about the past or our future worries for a while, providing time without any distractions!

Support others to learn to play chords and push their worries to the back of their mind and an opportunity to engage with people that have a similar interest!

What you will be doing

• To facilitate guitar lessons for beginners on a 1:1 basis
• Plan each session, in collaboration with those you are supporting
• Lead on logistics and organisation of the sessions alongside the staff team
• Keep a record of attendees, provide feedback, and report any concerns to the staff team

The skills you need

• Experience teaching playing a guitar and the ability to teach at beginner level

Would you like to support suicidal people in their time of need?

At our sanctuary (Finsbury Park, North London) for those in suicidal crisis, we offer a potentially transformative experience with a once-only 4-night stay at our non-medical, family-style house. Through respite, time and space for reflection and compassionate and nurturing care, our Volunteer Befrienders and Lead Befrienders support an opportunity for the revival of hope and resilience.  

Volunteer Befrienders are key to Maytree and work alongside Lead Befrienders to provide an open and containing space for people who are feeling suicidal. Befriending is as it sounds: sitting alongside our guests as a compassionate, confidential, and non-judgemental friend. Through active listening and human warmth our volunteers enable our guests to explore their feelings and their options in their own way and in their own time. This face-to-face support is not therapy; it is about being calm and committed and not afraid of difficult subjects, including suicide.

Our fundraising event helpers have the exciting and varied role of helping at local fundraising events - such as cakes sales, barn dances, quiz nights – and everything in between!

You can expect us to

This role is really flexible! You could choose to volunteer at one event for a couple of hours or attend multiple fundraising events.

We’ll keep you up to date with upcoming local events where volunteers are needed. You’ll then be able to choose which events you’d like to volunteer at and how many hours you’d like to give. However much time you can give, your contribution will help raise much needed funds to continue the work of Cats Protection.

Urban Youth is a new charity being established to provide engaging youth work activities, offer positive mentorship, and create safe spaces where young people can thrive and reach their full potential in London. We're looking for a dedicated Volunteer Coordinator to lead the development and management of our entire volunteer programme. This is a unique, high-impact opportunity to shape how Urban Youth attracts, supports, and empowers the incredible individuals who will drive our mission forward.

What will you do?

In this pivotal role, you'll be responsible for building and nurturing our volunteer community from day one.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Strategy & Development: Working with the Founder and Board of Trustees to develop and implement Urban Youth's comprehensive volunteer strategy, policies, and procedures.

• Recruitment & Onboarding: Leading the full recruitment cycle, from writing compelling role descriptions and promoting opportunities to interviewing candidates and managing the onboarding process, ensuring a positive initial experience.

• Training & Support: Coordinating and, where appropriate, delivering essential training for volunteers (e.g., safeguarding, code of conduct) and ensuring they receive ongoing support and supervision.

• Engagement & Retention: Developing initiatives to recognise, appreciate, and retain volunteers, fostering a strong sense of community and commitment.

• Database Management: Establishing and maintaining an efficient system for volunteer records, hours, training, and communications.

• Safeguarding Compliance: Ensuring all volunteers comply with Urban Youth's safeguarding policies, including managing DBS checks and mandatory training requirements.

• Problem Solving: Acting as the primary point of contact for volunteer queries, feedback, and any issues that may arise.

Who are we looking for?

We need someone who is not only deeply passionate about empowering young people but also brings proven leadership and organisational skills to the table.

You should be:

• Experienced: Ideally, you'll have prior experience in volunteer coordination, HR, project management, or a similar role requiring people management and organisational skills.

• Exceptional Communicator: Able to build rapport with diverse individuals, lead meetings, and communicate clearly and inspiringly, both verbally and in writing.

• Highly Organised: Excellent at managing multiple priorities, systems, and processes with a keen eye for detail.
