Learning volunteer volunteer roles

We are seeking enthusiastic, innovative volunteer teachers who are passionate about education, youth development and equity to join our 25-26 cohort. Food and housing expenses are covered. We currently serve hundreds of students across our partner school, Santa Monica Bilingual School, in northern Honduras. You will be joining a network of hundreds of alumni who have supported this important work for nearly 20 years. Our signature teaching program includes  ear-long teacher training and year-long professional development opportunities that highlights the important current and historical context in which we are teaching and learning from our students and the communities in which we live. At a high level, each volunteer teacher is responsible for: leading an English curriculum for students in grades PreK-9 in ELA, Science, Math, Art, PE and Computers (all classes are capped at 25 students, and most teachers take on one full curriculum for a grade level) supporting fellow teachers in the classroom, getting to know your students and their families, and immersing oneself in Honduran culture. Don’t worry - we’ll be there to support you with every step along the way! 

REQUIRED DUTIES:

• Facilitate relationships with students’ parents and other community members 

• Plan lessons and teach in English (all subjects with the exception of Social Studies and Spanish)

• Foster a safe and productive classroom environment for students 

• Serve as a Lunch/Recess monitor

• Collaborate with the teaching team (Honduran and International) on school projects, events, planning, and curriculum development

• Contribute to the collaborative and respectful group living experience

• Serve as an ambassador for BECA by helping to spread the word about our work to your families and friends 

• Participate in professional development events, such as local education-based conferences, and BECA-lead efforts

Medaille Trust is one of the leading providers of support to survivors of modern slavery and human trafficking in the UK. We are working to provide refuge and freedom for survivors and fighting to see slavery in all its forms become a thing of the past. The need for this work has never been higher, there are more than 50 million estimated victims of modern slavery worldwide, and over 120,000 potential victims in the UK.

We operate ten safe houses and five outreach hubs, staffed round the clock by specialist staff, working with more than 600 men, women and dependent children each year.  We work to raise awareness in the UK and to provide preventive work in source countries. Our Pursue work helps survivors to engage with police and within the legal system to seek justice and to secure convictions against their perpetrators.

This role is based in the Thanet area.

We are looking for Volunteers to help support us with coordinating and delivering activities, tasks will include:

•Organising and delivering activities for service user participation, which could include walking groups, craft and wellbeing activities as well as attending trips out of service.

•Consulting service users to gain their feedback about what activities they would like to participate in.

•Helping service users to engage within a group setting, helping with any activity sessions that take place on or off the premises.

•Offering a safe and comfortable experience for all service users, showing awareness of service users varying physical and mental wellbeing needs.

•Providing feedback to the Senior Service Manager and reporting any observations or concerns in a timely manner.

Our volunteers come from all walks of life and have a wide range of experience and motivations for wanting to volunteer with us. Whatever your reason for deciding to volunteer, we want to make sure you enjoy your time with us and know just how much we value your support.

This role requires maturity, and an ability to engage with adults in a trauma informed way, while working alongside staff members to deliver the activities in line with agreed procedures and systems

Volunteers need to:

•Be at least 18 years old

•Be able to get to the venues which is in Thanet

•This role requires a regular commitment

•Be computer literate and have a good standard of spoken and written English

•Be willing to have an enhanced DBS check

•Have an understanding of the importance of professional boundaries in the role and ability to maintain confidentiality is essential

This role is restricted for females under the Occupational Requirement under Schedule 9 (part 1) of the Equality Act 2010 and is subject to satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service checks.

We are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to host our bingo group! If you enjoy engaging with people, have a passion for games and want to make a difference in your community, this is the role for you!

• Lead monthly bingo sessions, ensuring a smooth and fun experience for all players
• Help players understand the rules, answer questions, and assist with any issues that arise.
• Create a lively, welcoming, and fun environment that encourages social interaction.
• Announce game progress, call numbers, and congratulate winners.

• A warm and friendly personality and ability to create a positive environment.
• Good verbal skills, a clear and confident speaking voice, and the ability to explain rules clearly to diverse players.
• Patience and ability to resolve issues if they arise

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

Alex, The Leukodystrophy Charity (Alex TLC) is a small, independent rare disease charity competing for essential resources within an extremely competitive arena.

Like many other small charities, we have grown organically from an informal support group to the recognised voice for leukodystrophy patients and their families. In order to fulfil our charitable objectives we need to increase and sustain our corporate income levels.

Could you spare a few hours a week to help us?

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for volunteers, preferably with corporate fundraising experience to:

• research the corporate giving landscape and the interests of potential donors

• identify potential corporate donors and partners whose corporate social responsibility (CSR) goals align with our mission and values

• approach local and national businesses in person and over the telephone to inform them of the work of Alex TLC

• keep a record of all approaches

You will support us to reach some of the most isolated adults in your community to reduce their feelings of loneliness, build friendships and provide support for mental wellbeing. You will support people to relight a spark to continue a hobby, interest or encourage them to explore and participate in new social activities.

You will support individuals to rebuild their lives beyond crisis.

Loneliness and isolation can affect anyone in life, whatever their age or family situation. Official data from the Office for National Statistics shows that rates of depression doubled during the COVID pandemic, and one of the major causes of depression is isolation.

Hestia has a variety of different services that support people across London and the South East. These services support people that are struggling with their mental health, are victims of Domestic Abuse or Modern Slavery, and more. Join our team of volunteers who play a vital role in what we do!

Face-to-face locations include Islington, Hounslow, Hillingdon, Berkshire, Lambeth, Kingston, Merton, Barbican, Slough, Reading and Croydon

What you will be doing

Furniture Assembly Volunteer

Acorns have a network of shops across the West Midlands that generate a substantial level of income to enable us to care for children and their families. Our empowered Furniture Assembly Volunteers support by constructing and taking apart flat pack furniture, beds and other large items of furniture. You can help us optimise the look of our furniture section in store.

For this role, you'll need a love for upcycling and repairing. You can work in our dedicated space to give donated items the care they need. You'll have the ability to identify defects or the need for spare parts when giving donated furniture a second chance!

How much time will it take? 

Our store is open Monday to Saturday 9am to 5.30pm, Sunday 10am to 4pm. You can volunteer the hours that suit you, but ideally we’ll need you to volunteer for at least 3 hours per week.
