Our charity shop in the heart of CRYSTAL PALACE is looking for a friendly volunteer to join our team and help make our shop a huge success. Make new friends, have fun, and help us help more animals!
As a volunteer Charity Shop Assistant, you would join a small team working with the shop manager and 1-2 other volunteers to help make it a success and raise vital funds for animal welfare.
About Our Charity Shop
The shop plays an essential role in raising the profile of the RSPCA in our local community and funds for our branch so that we can continue our vital animal welfare work. Our shops sell a mixture of donated items, including clothes, books, bric-a-brac and collectables, and a selection of new items. We have positions available on the shop floor and in our stock room or you could volunteer to do a mixture of both.
Volunteer Charity Shop Assistant responsibilities
- Helping customers in the shop find what they need.
- Accepting donations of items and money from the public.
- Processing sales through the till and card machine, including Gift Aid.
- Sorting through donated items to determine what we can sell.
- Preparing donated items for sale by steaming and hanging and items.
- Merchandising stock on the shop floor.
- Creating attractive shop window displays.

- Friendly volunteers who are confident talking to people.
- Retail experience would be ideal but is not necessary as full training will be given.

The Role
We are seeking passionate Adult Instructors to serve in a uniformed volunteer position, leading on the training, development, and empowerment of cadets within a local London cadet unit. This is a hands-on role for someone who can inspire young people, deliver engaging sessions, and help them progress through our syllabus programme.
As an Adult Instructor, you will:

Role Summary.
The Onsite Administrative Assistant will provide essential operational and administrative support for the Roots Academy Essentials Onsite Program. This role will help ensure smooth communication, accurate documentation, and effective coordination between internal team members, instructors, campuses, and students. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organised, and proactive in maintaining digital records and supporting program onboarding processes.
Key tasks

Create and send calendar invites for recurring and ad-hoc meetings.

Manage, document and accurately store internal meeting minutes.
-
Share action items and follow-ups in a timely manner.

Track and record university campuses that have registered interest in hosting the Essentials Onsite Program.

Prepare and manage Google Drive folders containing onboarding documents for university ISocs and MSAs we partner with.
-
Verify that all instructors, campuses, and student ambassadors are correctly assigned on the Roots Digital Platform.
What we’re looking for

Strong organisational and administrative skills.

Comfortable using digital tools such as Notion, Slack, Google Drive, and scheduling platforms.

Excellent written communication skills.

Ability to remain organised and manage deadlines efficiently.

Experience in administrative support or program coordination preferred.

Family Friends carefully recruits, trains, and matches volunteers with families in Central-West London. Our befriending volunteers offer long-term practical and emotional support based on each family's unique needs and potential. We offer two befriending volunteer opportunities with us-, Big Buddies and Parent Buddies.
Our Big Buddies support young people, aged 10-18, for a few hours each week over a period of 6 -12 months. With encouragement and support, volunteers will aim to help young people to discover their strengths and build confidence.
Support may look like:
- Helping to strengthen family relationships.
- Providing a listening ear
- Taking young person to the cinema, museums, libraries - broadening their horizons!
Essential Criteria:
- Can commit to the Big Buddies programme for a minimum of 6 months
- 18+
- Must have lived in the UK for the last 2 years
What we provide in return:
