Job Title: EPAfrica Summer Team – Project Coordinator (PC)

Location: Kakamega, Kenya

Duration: Minimum 3 weeks during our summer programme, which runs from approximately late June –  to mid-September 2026

Start Date: The EPAfrica summer starts in late June, with travel to Kenya taking place several days before the Project Associates arrive.

Compensation: This is a non-salaried placement, with the following expenses covered:

Travel: All project-related travel in and around Kakamega County. Flight tickets are at the expense of the post holder*
Accommodation: Fully covered throughout the EPAfrica summer.
Programme delivery costs: All costs associated with programme delivery (travel to sites, partner meeting expenses, etc.) covered by the charity.

*Additional Costs: Round-trip flights to Kenya and limited subsistence costs, plus any personal travel elsewhere within Kenya (e.g., for your holiday week).

About EPAfrica

EPAfrica (Education Partnerships Africa) is a volunteer-led charity working in partnership with rural secondary schools in East Africa. Our focus is on a win:win approach to skills development and capacity building. We recruit, train and support graduates in the UK to develop leadership and project management skills, while working in partnership with rural schools in East Africa to create sustainable improvements in education by investing in people, resources, infrastructure, and local capacity. Role Overview

As a Project Coordinator (PC), you will be part of EPAfrica’s Summer Team, contributing to the effective delivery of our in-country programme. Working alongside the Project Manager and fellow Coordinators, you will help ensure that Project Associates (PAs) have the operational guidance, logistical support, and pastoral care they need during their placements.

The role offers a broad introduction to programme coordination, capacity building and grassroots development work. It provides valuable experience in supporting teams, navigating operational challenges, and contributing to the smooth functioning of a multi-site programme. Project Coordinators play an important part in maintaining programme quality and supporting volunteers as they apply training, develop confidence, and build relationships in partner schools.

Key Responsibilities

Working under the guidance of the Project Manager (PM), the Project Coordinator will:

Support Project Associates (PAs) in their placements, including:

• Monitoring project progress and helping PAs address challenges as they arise.

• Providing pastoral support and helping maintain volunteer wellbeing.

• Co-delivering training on topics such as project management, responsible development practices, cultural awareness, safety, and wellbeing.

Operational Coordination

• Assist with the coordination of logistics essential to programme delivery.

• Facilitate communication between PAs, the Summer Team, and the UK-based central charity team.

Monitoring & Evaluation

• Contribute to in-country monitoring and evaluation activities, including:

  • Monitoring visits to current and recent investment schools.

  • Assessment visits to potential future participant schools.

  • Staying informed on developments in the Kenyan education sector and their potential implications for our work.

• Support the maintenance of relationships with local partners.

Team Contribution

• Participate in Summer Team planning, reflection sessions, and process documentation.

• Help maintain the safety, security, and wellbeing of the Kenya-based team in line with EPAfrica’s risk guidelines.

What We’re Looking For

• Strong familiarity with, and interest in, EPAfrica’s values and operating model.

• Demonstrated interest in grassroots international development; prior experience (volunteering, fieldwork, or professional) preferred.

• Experience working within teams delivering project-based work, and the ability to support others with empathy.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across cultures.

• Facilitation skills, or willingness to learn how to assist in delivering training, and creating psychologically safe learning spaces

Dive into lasting impact: Fundraise for East London Waterworks Park to create and shape natural swimming ponds, ecological habitats and community gardens

East London Waterworks Park is a volunteer-led charity that has won a 2024 New London Architecture award and raised £2m towards buying land from the Department for Education to transform the 14-acre Thames Water Depot on Lea Bridge Road on the border of Waltham Forest and Hackney, into a new biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces. 

If you would like to help us develop our digital fundraising and our online offer, would you like to join our fundraising and communications teams in creating and implementing a strategy? We would love to hear from anyone with experience of fundraising online or with enthusiasm and a desire to test things out and learn as you go along. Recently we raised over half a million pounds through our Crowdfunder. Now we are looking to create a sustainable medium term income stream online.

The Fundraising Circle currently meets fortnightly on a Thursday evening on Google Meet and spends voluntary time outside of the meeting completing agreed tasks remotely. Role Summary 

The Site Manager role involves overseeing a number of university Islamic Societies or Muslim Student Associations who are interested in partnering with Roots Academy to host the Essentials Onsite Program an in-person transformative educational class tailored to university students on campus. The Site Manager role is responsible for establishing and maintaining positive relationships with these ISoc/MSA committees and offering 1:1 support to ensure that they have an excellent educational experience.
 

Key tasks

• Actively establish and maintain positive relationships with ISoc/MSA committees and Student Ambassadors (ISoc/MSA representative) to ensure an exceptional onsite experience for students, and promote retention of sites.
   
• Be the point of contact for ISocs/MSAs: answer questions, offer light-touch support and coaching on ways to improve the class, engage on a 1:1 basis listening to their needs and concerns, and addressing these accordingly.
   
• Liaise with Student Ambassadors to ensure that logistics involved in marketing and running the class are taken care of by the ISoc/MSA.
   
• Collect ideas and best-practices from how different campuses deliver their class
   
• Be the internal point of contact for any queries or updates related to ISocs/MSAs assigned.

You will help build strong relationships with families, schools, and partners, supporting local engagement and connecting people to our programmes and services.

Volunteer Digital Inclusion & Skills Coordinator – Share Your Heart of Gold with SUNSHINE

Loneliness is one of the fastest-growing epidemics of our time. Across London, thousands of people feel isolated, disconnected, and unseen. At SUNSHINE, we believe no one should feel alone. Our mission is to bring sunshine into people’s lives through grassroots, community-led programmes that spark joy, foster friendships, and transform lives.

We are now seeking a Digital Inclusion and Skills Coordinator with a Heart of Gold to lead the set-up, delivery, and coordination of our recurring programme, running once a week over 6 weeks.

In today’s world, digital skills are essential for connection. Many people experiencing loneliness also face barriers to accessing technology, leaving them further isolated. As Coordinator, you will empower participants to gain confidence online—helping them connect with loved ones, access services, and feel part of the wider community. Your leadership will ensure this programme is uplifting, practical, and transformative.

What You’ll Do

• Lead the programme: Organise and oversee the set-up, delivery, and coordination of the 6-week Digital Inclusion & Skills sessions.

• Support participants: Teach and guide individuals in building confidence with digital tools, online safety, and everyday technology.

• Empower volunteers: Coordinate and inspire the team supporting delivery.

• Ensure impact: Gather feedback, track progress, and adapt sessions to meet participant needs.

• Champion inclusion: Create a welcoming, positive environment where everyone feels supported and valued.

Role Summary.

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Podcast Producer to support the planning and delivery of the Firmly Rooted Podcast. You will be responsible for planning and booking studio recording sessions, managing post production editing, and working closely with the host and other team members to make this the no #1 podcast for Muslim university students. 

Key tasks

• Brainstorming, contacting and liaising with guests to appear on the podcast

• Booking and preparing the recording studio for filming sessions

• Recording the podcast in the studio alongside the guest and host

• Cooperating with the host to plan the structure and topics covered in each episode

• Coordinating research and brainstorming sessions to identify potential guests and topics

• Collaborating with data analyst and design team to test and produce attention-grabbing thumbnails and titles

• Uploading the podcast to our video and audio platforms

What we’re looking for

• Passion for Islamic education and the development of young Muslims.

• Some experience or training in video or podcast production.

• Ability to travel to locations across the UK (Manchester and London) for recording sessions.

• Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively with a large team.

• Ability to work effectively under time pressure 

• Proactive, self-motivated, and willing to think outside the box.
