Cattery Assistant

Our Branch

At Apsley Cattery we have around 30 volunteers, supported by our Animal Welfare Team. There will be lots of hands on contact with the cats, including cleaning and feeding at the cattery and/or socializing of the cats in our care. You would be part of a team that would make a real difference to the lives of our cats.

We are looking for volunteers to help care for the cats in our cattery to keep them fed, watered, and clean. You will learn new skills, and make our cats very happy whilst they wait for their forever home.

By volunteering at our Cattery, you would be helping us get through the essential tasks. As well as assisting with their feeding and the cleaning of the cattery, you will also be working closely with the team allowing you to get more involved and learn new skills. This opportunity to help our cats is extremely rewarding, knowing that you have improved their welfare and made them happy whilst they are waiting for their forever home.

Volunteer Cattery Assistant responsibilities

• Preparing and providing food and water for the cats.

• Cleaning, and maintaining the cattery to a high standard of cleanliness, so our cats are as comfortable as possible.

• Attending to the exercise and grooming needs of the cats.

• Following the health and safety procedures in place at the centre and ensuring that they are always observed.

What we are looking for in a volunteer Cattery Assistant

• Someone with knowledge of cats and can read their behaviour.

• Is comfortable around cats and has a patient and understanding nature.

• Can carry out physical tasks.

• Someone who is flexible and can offer an ongoing commitment predominately on a Morning or Afternoon for at least 3 hours.

• Able to work within a team but also capable of working with minimal supervision.

Citizens Advice Barnet is a local, independently registered charity and member of the Citizens Advice network. We help people find a way forward with their problems by providing expert advice, enabling people to uphold their rights and access the help they need and are entitled to. While our services are available to everyone in our community who needs us, we prioritise those who need us the most, such as people with disabilities, a language barrier or those experiencing poverty.

A significant amount of our funding comes from trusts and foundations. It is only through the grants we receive that we're able to provide free specialist casework that helps the most vulnerable people with the most complex problems.

Duties include:

• Identifying funders we could approach, such as by searching funder databases
• Researching funders to clarify whether or not we are eligible to apply, how much funding we could apply for and which project they’d be most likely to fund
• Recording the above information in a spreadsheet and keeping this record up-to-date
• Updating a master document which collates key information for applications
• Writing applications for small grants with support from the Head of Business Development

About You

No previous experience or knowledge of trust fundraising is required; this role would suit you if you have the following skills and attributes:

• strong research skills

• IT skills, especially MS Word and Excel at a basic level (sort, filter, basic formulas) or willingness and ability to learn
• ability to present complex information in a clear and easily navigable format

The Senior Researcher in an Initial Research Team is the operational lead for one
particular project at a time, they will work with the Research Manager and within
the Initial Research Framework in order to plan and execute the research. At the
conclusion of research projects the Senior Researcher is responsible for providing
an accurate research report which allows for consideration as to what happens
next with the research inline with our organisation's purpose.The role of Senior
Researcher is key in our organisation's progress and overall positive output as it is
the starting point for all of our work. It is therefore important Senior Researchers
are committed and capable.

Responsibilities may include:

• To oversee and take part in the planning and execution of initial research projects

• To supervise a team of approximately 4 research volunteers, delegating and creating tasks according to the research plan

• To work with and support the Research Manager, ensuring task coordination across platforms such as ClickUp and a high level of communication across the team 

• To ensure outputs such as literature reviews and surveys are completed to the highest standard possible, in line with ethical considerations if relevant

• To comply with and advise on using the OSCOLA referencing system

• To organise analysis of Freedom of Information request data sets

• To collaborate with the rest of the team and the RM to provide an internal research report at the end of the research project, including a summary and key recommendations for next steps

• To conduct 1-1s and lead team meetings where necessary

• To regularly communicate with team members about their task progress, welfare and support needs

Required experience and qualifications:

• To have experience in supervising or managing a group of people

• Clear communication skills and a demonstrable level of academic writing to a high standard 

• In depth knowledge of qualitative research methods and secondary data analysis, quantitative experience a plus

• To have knowledge on children’s human rights in the UK and other related areas

• Building trust and companionship with a client through correspondence. Omega befriends a variety of people including: caregivers, the lonely, isolated or people with ill-health.

Across the UK, our 270 local groups play a vital part in supporting people affected by MS. They provide sense of belonging, unity and friendship. And they deliver services and support for their local MS community.

We are looking to recruit a Fundraising Volunteer for the West Central London Group. As our Fundraising Volunteer you’ll support your Group Coordinator to organise local fundraising activities and events throughout the year.

In this role you’ll be able to develop your organisation, communication and team working skills.Most importantly you’ll inspire your local community to raise funds that help make sure no one has to face MS alone.

Time Commitment

We estimate this role will need around 2 hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.

About Youth ESOL: 

Our award-winning ESOL project offers English language classes to young people at a wide range of levels. This provides vital skills, opportunities and social contact and is crucial for enabling young people to do well at school or college.

About the Role: 

CARAS is looking for volunteer ESOL Teaching Assistants to support our face-to-face study programme called ‘Get Ready for School.’ 

This programme is attended by young people out of education and is based in Tooting on Mondays and Wednesdays. Core delivery of the programme includes English, Maths, Digital skills, complemented by Reading and Writing for Pleasure.

Volunteers in this role are required to commit to at least one 2-hour session per week, during these times:

• Monday 10am - 3pm
• Tuesday 2pm - 6pm
• Wednesday 11am - 6pm

Please note that ESOL classes do not run during school holidays, and we follow Wandsworth Council term dates.

Volunteer  Tasks and Responsibilities: 

• Providing learners with one-to-one or small group support within ESOL classes;

• Help young people to build confidence in digital literacy;

• Helping to set up the classroom and provide learners with classroom resources;

• Engaging learners in informal conversations or games during breaks to help them practice their conversational English.

• Checking the session plan aims with the lead teacher and assisting learners achieve them;

• Attending and contributing to volunteer debriefs after each session;

• Making use of any community languages you may know to help students during the class;

• Working collaboratively as a team and helping to shape the project;

Requirements: 

Essential 

• To be 18 years or older;

• Able to travel to our community centre in Tooting (travel and food expenses can be reimbursed);

• An interest in education and English language teaching;

• To be non-judgemental and able to engage with people from diverse backgrounds;

• To be reliable and punctual;

• Excellent communication skills, especially with people who are new to English;

• The ability to volunteer on Monday mornings and Wednesday afternoons/evenings during Wandsworth term time for a minimum of four months;

• Currently resident in the UK; has asylum seeker or refugee status

• Able to provide five years’ worth of addresses, and willing to undergo a DBS check (DBS and proof of residency is not necessary if you are a Caras community member who is more recently arrived in the UK);

• Able to attend volunteer induction training (online) prior to start of role

Our Education Officer, Laura Chepner, coordinates the Vegan Campout Family Marquee each year and is looking for an enthusiastic assistant. This role begins with some remote administrative support and builds up to on-site assistance a few days before the festival. You would be required on site from Tuesday 26th August, supporting Laura, up to the morning of Friday 29 August when you will clock off. After that, you’re free to enjoy the rest of the festival from Saturday onwards (free ticket included). vegv

This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in gaining hands-on experience in events or festival planning, while gaining an exclusive behind-the-scenes insight into one of the UK’s most successful vegan festivals. 

Why do we need you? 

Vegan Campout's Family Marquee is growing year on year and we want to ensure it continues to be a welcoming, engaging and successful space for children and families. To achieve this, we need a dedicated and capable volunteer to support Laura Chepner, our Education Officer, in preparing and delivering an event that gets better every year. As the marquee evolves and expands, so too does the work required behind the scenes – and your help will be vital in making this year the most successful yet. 

What does the role involve? 

In the months leading up to the festival, you’ll support Laura with various administrative tasks, including managing emails and maintaining Excel spreadsheets. This support will gradually increase as the event draws nearer. 

You may also assist in liaising with volunteers and artists, collecting and managing essential information such as DBS certificates and first aid qualifications. 

From Tuesday 26 August, you’ll be on-site helping with the physical setup of the marquee, coordinating deliveries, arranging activities and supporting logistical tasks. You’ll also help liaise with partners and sponsors to ensure everything is in place and ready for the opening day. 

What training and support is available? 

There is no formal training required. You will be working closely with Laura, who will guide and support you throughout the entire process. 

What skills would be useful in doing this role? 

We are looking for a volunteer who is: 

• Proficient in administrative tasks 
• Confident using Microsoft Office, especially Excel 
• Organised, reliable and dependable 
• Friendly with strong people skills 
• Comfortable managing communications and coordinating information 

What does my availability need to be? 

*Non-negotiable – You must be available to arrive on-site at Campout from Tuesday 26 August and remain until the morning of Friday 29 August. Food and breaks will be fully catered for during this period. 

In the months leading up to the festival, there will be a few hours of admin support required each week. From May onwards and this will gradually increase, reaching a maximum of around 16 hours per week across June, July and August.

• Analyse engagement data to identify trends and recommend actionable improvements.

People Partnership & Collaboration

• Partner with department leaders to integrate People First strategies into their operations and objectives.
• Provide coaching to managers on inclusive leadership, conflict resolution, and team dynamics.
• Ensure departmental policies reflect QuilomboUK’s commitment to equity and social justice.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Social Justice

• Embed D&I principles into talent processes, from recruitment to career development.
• Lead initiatives that advance social justice internally (e.g., ERGs, bias training) and externally (community partnerships).
• Track and report on D&I metrics to measure progress and identify gaps.

Compliance & Best Practices

• Stay updated on employment law and HR trends, ensuring compliance while advocating for progressive practices.
• Promote a culture of accountability and inclusivity through equitable policies.

Qualifications

• Experience: 5+ years in HR, organisational development, or as a People Partner, ideally in mission-driven sectors.
• Skills:
• Expertise in change management, engagement strategies, and OD frameworks.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Proficiency in HR analytics and project management.
• Knowledge: Deep understanding of D&I practices, employment law, and social justice principles.
• Alignment: Passionate about QuilomboUK’s mission and values.
