Job description

SCIAF works in partnership with local and church organisations, supporting communities in eight developing countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America to bring about lasting change. SCIAF envisages a world without poverty: where the poorest not only survive but thrive; people’s dignity is ensured, and rights are respected; basic needs are met, and resources are shared equitably; people have control over their own lives; and those in power act for the common good.

Job Purpose: 

To manage the Fundraising teams and lead the development of fundraising strategies which will motivate existing and new donors in Scotland to support SCIAF’s work and give them the means and opportunity to do so.

There are a number of income streams available to us to do this.

Individual Giving:

  1. One-off donations (Appeals)
  2. Regular giving
  3. Legacies

Community Engagement:

  1. Centrally Co-ordinated Campaigns
  2. Community Fundraising

Because of the requirement for Major Donor fundraising to liaise with senior staff, the Philanthropy income stream will report direct to the Director of Public Engagement, but with a dotted line to Fundraising.

Person Specification:

Qualifications:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent professional qualification or experience
  • CIOF Diploma in Fundraising (Desirable)
  • Member of the Chartered Institute of Fundraising (Desirable)

Experience:

  • Development of fundraising strategy and the associated activities to deliver its planned outcomes (desirable)
  • Budget management and achieving fundraising targets
  • Team management
  • Management of a range of fundraising specialisms, e.g. individual giving, legacies, community and event fundraising, digital
  • ITC software (including Microsoft Office) with an emphasis on database and donor management software
  • Raiser’s Edge or a similar CRM database.

Knowledge:

  • Up to date knowledge of legislation and best practice guidelines relating to Fundraising and Data Protection
  • An in-depth understanding of Individual Giving (desirable)

Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to communicate verbally and in writing to diverse audiences, in an inspirational and creative way.
  • Ability to engage with people across the organisation and with external partners, suppliers and stakeholders.
  • Good customer service skills, able to respond to the public via email/phone/letter and in person in a professional and engaging manner.
  • Ability to engage with people across the organisation and with external partners, suppliers and stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyse and use data effectively and strategically.
  • Effective project management skills with a proven ability to plan efficiently and manage competing deadlines.
  • Self-motivator who can work effectively within a team and with colleagues across the organisation.
  • Innovator who keeps abreast of the latest trends and developments in the sector and who can bring new ideas, techniques and ways of working to SCIAF.
