General Election Volunteer

The UK General Election is on Thursday 4 July 2024. It’s an opportunity for us to campaign on the issues that matter most to people living with MS. And to engage with candidates across all political parties. We’re asking all our volunteers and local groups to make sure every candidate knows how they can speak up for MS, if they’re elected.

We provide training for all volunteers that join us. Our peer support training is CPD accredited.  20-25 hours of volunteering training is required and is self led online.

At WWT we are aiming to inspire the next generation of nature-lovers. We believe the best way of doing this is to foster emotional connections to nature at our sites and where people live.

One of the ways we do this is through our learning programme and, in particular, through Generation Wild, our flagship nature connection project for children and families from disadvantaged communities. In this role you will be engaging our younger visitors by bringing the life-sized puppet ‘Ava’ to life as part of this project. As a puppeteer, you are key to making the experience a truly magical one for the children

Volunteers are an essential part of the WWT team. You'll get a warm welcome, including information on training, equipment and anything else you need. 

About You

• Someone passionate about inspiring children to develop and emotional connection with nature.
   
• Previous puppetry / theatre experience would be beneficial but is in no way essential. This role will suit you if you are reasonably extrovert and have good stamina!!

• Experience either in an educational setting or in an environment involving children would be an advantage.

This role is only suitable for over 18's.

About this opportunity
We are looking to recruit an Activities Organiser for the South East Kent Group. As an Activities Organiser, you will be to bringing together our MS community through engaging and accessible activities. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

We are a very friendly group of 7 volunteers covering a large are of the South East area of Kent from Dover to Hythe and Ashford.  We currently hold a monthly support group meet-up in Ashford 10am - Noon 2nd Thursday in Month, but we would like to expand these in the future in other areas.  We have a support team who do visits and information signposting at the William Harvey Hospital.

We are very keen to expand our activities and would welcome new volunteers with ideas and support in helping us offer more for people affected by MS in our area.

The hours will be suited to compliment your own personal commitments.  If possible 2 to 4 hrs a week would be great if we can develop our services. We have the monthly support meet up which is currently 2 hrs a month but we would like to offer this more often if possible in 2019 to every other week or a new meeting in a different area.  We have group volunteer meetings every 4 months and there are volunteer events held twice a year for all volunteers by MS National Centre so all volunteers in the Kent area can meet up and share their activities and good ideas together.

This is an exciting time to join our client as a Non-Executive Board Member. Following a recent skills audit and upcoming board rotation, they are now recruiting at least five new board members. Board Members who live locally, within their Area of Benefit. These board members will bring lived experience of the neighbourhood and a commitment to its future. No formal board or professional experience is necessary, but they would particularly welcome local applicants with knowledge of finance, HR or housing and property.

Co-opted Board Members who do not need to live locally but will bring specific professional expertise in one of the following areas:

• Finance – Qualified accountant with experience of financial strategy and oversight
• HR –  Strategic leadership, ideally with experience chairing or contributing to HR and remuneration committees
• Housing – Specialist knowledge of social housing, property management, or asset development

A bit about this role

As a charity we are able to help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations we receive from members of the public. Our fundraising volunteers use their passion for cats and people to raise the vital funds needed to help more cats and kittens in need. As a fundraising volunteer we want to support you to fundraise in whatever way suits you best – whether that’s organising a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, completing administration or supporting the development of new fundraising ideas! Whatever your skill set, this could be the role for you!

What can you expect to be doing?

This is a really flexible role – you can choose what you’d like to get involved with:

• Face-to-face fundraising – organising or helping with fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, monitoring collection tins
• Online fundraising – setting up online appeals, increasing social media engagement to maximise funds raised
• Marketing – spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press  
• Completing administration – processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork
• Championing our work – getting involved with developing new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement

Support, guidance and keeping you safe

At Cats Protection we believe our volunteers should be happy and confident in their roles. We provide support and guidance from our National Cat Centre and through our regional and local volunteer groups and teams. We offer engaging online and face-to-face training, expenses and have policies and processes to help volunteers get the most out of their time with us.

What will you be doing?

East Lothian Foodbank provides emergency food and compassionate, practical support to people in crisis. Without our volunteers, selflessly donating their time, we simply would not be able to provide the support our community needs.

Our Board, comprising both Trustees and co-opted advisory board members, are essential members of our volunteer community, offering their time and expertise to ensure that the management team have all the support and advice they need to deliver our mission effectively, efficiently and in compliance with all regulatory expectations.

About the role

We are looking to expand our Board with up to four new members, initially on a co-opted basis but with a path to trusteeship within the next six months if you feel it is right for you.

We are looking for people who want to help their local community and work towards the eradication of food poverty whilst support the foodbank to continue to provide emergency food to people who find themselves in crisis. 

Co-opted Board membership does not have a fixed term but we would ask that candidates be prepared to offer at least six months, so that collectively we can assess whether a path to trusteeship is desirable. No prior experience of Board membership or third sector working is necessary, and full induction training will be provided to help ease you into the role.

• Willingness to actively participate in discussions concerning needs of the foodbank’s beneficiaries, staff, and the trustee board.

HEALTH ADVISOR

Across the UK, our 65 local branches work with disabled people to help them live the lives they choose. Our network of skilled volunteers respond to thousands of requests each year to design and make customised equipment free of charge.

Our volunteer Health Advisors bring their professional skills and experience to help shape the work of their local branch, supporting other volunteers to produce solutions that meet the needs of our clients.

What the role involves

This is a varied role where local need will shape what you’ll be working on, but primarily you’ll be offering guidance to our Engineers/Makers on producing aids, adaptations and equipment.

What you’ll need for this role

· Qualified Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist

· If you’re not currently practising that’s fine - you’ll just need to have done so within the past 3 years

· A commitment to our aims and values

You’ll also need to complete the induction checklist and some online training, as well as a DBS check if you’re not practising.
