About this opportunity
We are looking to recruit a Finance Volunteer for our Lancaster, Morecambe and District Group. As a Finance Volunteer, you would be joining a coordinating team of volunteers to plan and deliver services and activities to support people locally.

You will maintain and approve income and expenditure records and explain financial information clearly to other group members. You would ensure our financial requirements and policies are followed, and that money is spent in a cost effective manner.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience with a large charity, develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

About you
You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be comfortable with figures, preferably with an accounting or business background.

About the Orpheus Centre

The Orpheus Centre is a charity and college which supports young disabled adults aged 18-25 to learn essential life skills, gain formal qualifications and prepare for future employment.

There are currently 66 students with 21 living on site in Godstone, Surrey. Students come from across the UK and all have a love of the arts.

Started by lyricist and musician Sir Richard Stilgoe, the organisation offers learning, care and development opportunities at the college and in the wider community, working with professional artists, businesses and other charities.

The overall aim is to equip the students with the skills they need to live as independently as possible and to pursue their chosen careers.

Orpheus is a vibrant Independent Specialist college for young disabled adults who have a passion for the arts and a desire to live independently. Orpheus believes that disabled people should have the same opportunities as their non-disabled peers.

The Board of Trustees are looking for a new Trustee who is passionate about our vision to empower and equip young disabled people with the skills and confidence they need in order to live independent and fulfilling lives in the community.

Time commitment

The time commitment is between 7 and 12 days per annum, including four Board meetings including the AGM (mainly in person), four committee meetings (mainly virtual), one or two awaydays and ad-hoc attendance.

What will you be doing?

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of Orpheus, developing the organisation’s aims, objectives and goals in accordance with the governing document and with legal and regulatory guidelines.

The role of the Finance Trustee includes all the above, but with a particular focus on the financial stability and wellbeing of the Orpheus Centre. As a member of that committee, you will play a full and active part in the work of the Finance and HR Committee, and in ensuring that the Board fulfils its responsibilities for the governance of the Orpheus Centre in relation to finance and HR. You will also work closely with the Chief Executive, Director of Finance & Operations and Head of HR (as well as with the Board Chair and the committee Chair) to support them in achieving the aims of the Orpheus Centre in the areas of finance and HR.

Your responsibilities will include:

• monitoring the charity’s financial management, and seeking assurance that ensuring expenditure is in line with Orpheus objects;
• liaising as necessary with the Chair of Trustees, Chair of Finance and HR Committee, Chief Executive, Head of Finance and Head of HR;
• supporting the Finance and HR Committee and Board to monitor Orpheus’ financial viability;
• monitoring the financial processes and procedures for the control of Orpheus’ assets;
• advising on the financial implications of Orpheus’ strategic plan;
• reviewing the annual accounts and, if necessary, liaising with the Orpheus Centre’s external auditors to ensure the accounts are compliant with current SORPs;
• reviewing the auditors' representation letter and monitoring and advising on any necessary remedial measures;
• ensuring that you undertake a thorough induction programme;
• monitoring progress in implementing decisions taken at committee meetings and keeping in close touch with the work of the Finance and HR Departments in general – while always respecting the boundary between the respective roles of executives and non-executives; 
• assessing and monitoring risks relevant to the finance and HR functions of the Orpheus Centre;

and

• monitoring and scrutinising performance data within the Finance and HR Departments.

COPA is a small national registered charity run by older people for older people in Wales. We are the “national voice” for local older people’s groups and want to make sure that older people are listened to, and their demands are acted on. We feed the views and opinions of fora and groups directly into both government and national public organisations. There is strength in numbers and a demand for well organised and informed lobbying that can have  a greater influence and reach than is feasible by any individual or  local group

The number and proportion of older people in Wales has been increasing for decades and their needs have become more complex and diverse. Changes in society and politics mean that the challenges facing many older people, particularly those on low incomes or in poor health are struggling to be sufficiently recognised. In COPA we have prioritised a range of issues to address including tackling age discrimination, creating Age Friendly Communities, building intergenerational solidarity, tackling isolation and loneliness, and cost of living and digital inclusion, as well as health, social care, housing and transport. We campaign from a position of independence and the self-determined voice of older people.

In order to address this important agenda and strengthen our charity we are looking to recruit a number of new trustees in 2025. COPA would like to invite any individuals who may be interested in becoming a Trustee to contact us. This is an opportunity to directly influence and contribute to the work of a charity that is making a difference to the lives of older people across Wales. Clarion Housing Group operate a number of supported housing schemes, to support people to live independently, by providing residents with the life skills they will need to eventually go on to their own tenancy.

This opportunity is based in Strood, Rochester and Gillingham (Medway).

Volunteers empower our customers to identify their existing strengths and skills so they can achieve their goals and aspirations. As a volunteer, you can support customers to achieve their full potential by developing new skills and accessing opportunities.

Activities:
-Building an empathic and person-centred relationship with a young person who may be socially isolated or lack confidence.
-Provide opportunities for young people to become more self-confident, maintain contact with important people in their lives and build-up their social networks.

Practical activities could also include:
-Empowering young people to develop independent living skills and to access educational and employment opportunities
-Helping the young people to complete forms and paperwork including developing their CV and job applications
-Helping the young people to build important life skills e.g. cooking, cleaning and budgeting
-Organising activities within the schemes i.e. art/painting, games/quizzes, cooking

Support for Volunteers:

- To attend four half days of training, receive an induction and have access to any other relevant in house and external training

- Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed

- Volunteers will have a check in with the Volunteering Officer every 3 months to ensure they are happy with the role and to resolve any issues

Transport Volunteer

Across the UK, our 270 local groups play a vital part in supporting people affected by MS. They provide sense of belonging, unity and friendship. And they deliver services and support for their local MS community.

We are looking to recruit an Activities Organiser for the Cardiff and Vale Group. As our local group Activities Organiser you’ll play a crucial role in developing and planning activities and events with your local group. You’ll be responsible for creating and coordinating an annual calendar of events and making sure they’re run safely and effectively to make the most impact. You’ll take a lead role at events on the day and inspire your fellow volunteers to get involved.

In this role you’ll be able to develop your organisation, communication, administration and negotiation skills. 

Time commitment

We estimate this role will need around 2 hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.

Refettorio Felix is a community kitchen with an open-door policy in the Earl's Court area. We provide a safe haven and a warm, welcoming atmosphere for those facing homelessness and financial crises.

Using surplus food ingredients, our kitchen freshly prepares a three-course lunch for up to 140 people per weekday. We are looking for friendly and dedicated volunteers to support us in our mission to provide fresh and nutritious meals to our guests.

Your support will have a meaningful impact on the quality of lives of the most vulnerable members of the community. From trained and experienced Chefs to keen home cooks, we would love to hear from you!

We are appealing for a Volunteer to help at our Avonmouth Stroke Support Group weekly. 
Every year 950 people in Bristol and South Glos will experience a stroke: people of all ages…and from all backgrounds. Bristol After Stroke is the local charity that helps those people get their lives back on track – though our groups, activities, mentoring, counselling and much more.

We recently moved our Portway Stroke Support Group to a new location at the Avonmouth Community Centre and are appealing for Volunteers.

Our volunteers do a variety of things each week from helping with the room set up, serving hot drinks and supporting the activities that are planned eg music, poetry or seated exercise sessions like Yoga or Zumba. The most important part of the role of the volunteer though is to talk to group members, encourage them to get involved and generally help to promote a supportive, happy atmosphere that contributes to a sense of wellbeing.

Why we need your help:

- Our S Volunteers provide help and support to our Group Leaders and group members at our weekly stroke support groups.

- Our groups provide an opportunity for anyone who has been affected by stroke to meet others affected by stroke and make new friends, take part in stimulating and enjoyable activities which will support rehabilitation.

Role Summary:

• Provide support for group activities, exercises, and games.

• Support the Group Leader with the planning of Group Activities.

• Provide general support to Group Leader and Group Members when needed.

• Make and serve refreshments.

• Give added enthusiasm and encouragement to our members in taking part in any physical activities or exercises that may be offered during the session.

• Talk to group members, encourage them to get involved and generally help to promote a supportive, happy atmosphere that contributes to a sense of wellbeing.

• Help at the group for its full duration each week including setting up and clearing away of the room.

Skills and Experience:

• Be patient, understanding and have a responsible attitude.

• Know about or be willing to learn about undertaking risk assessments.
