Senior Information Governance Officer

£28,000 - £30,000

Role Purpose…

Support Head of IG in establishing, developing and coordinating effective governance of information across Macmillan Cancer Support to ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018, the Electronic Communications Regulations and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

In this role, your accountabilities and responsibilities are…

  • Provide pro-active, enabling advice and guidance in Information Governance, particularly in relation to incidents, queries, risks and data subject access requests
  • Maintain and develop recording and tracking of IG risks, issues, incidents, subject access requests and queries
  • Work with the Information Security Manager to inform management of information security risks, issues and incidents
  • Coordinate Data Protection Impact Assessments for new initiatives, advise on areas of risk, mitigate actions that practice guidelines, record risks and decisions made, and follow up on actions with project owners
  • Update IG policies and create procedures and guidance across the organisation
  • Design and deliver IG training and guidance materials
  • Input IG advice and expertise into Macmillan projects
  • Provide advice and guidance on records management and information asset management
  • Support Head of IG in establishing measures that ensure compliance with GDPR, and develop the IG Business as Usual operational function
  • Prepare high quality reports for the IG Board and other key stakeholders highlighting risks, issues and incidents
  • Identify innovative solutions to mitigate IG risk areas
  • Work with the Comms team to ensure effective communications around IG
  • Keep up-to-date with data protection legislation and best practice guidance, and apply and communicate this across the organisation
  • Support and further develop the embedding of an Information Governance culture and awareness within Macmillan
  • Provide support and guidance to organisational Data Protection Leads
  • Be familiar with and adhere to all relevant Macmillan policies and procedures at all times
  • Any other duties as reasonably required in line with skills, knowledge, and experience to contribute to Macmillan’s wider success

To do this role, you will have…

  • Recognised professional qualification and / or experience of working in a similar role – e.g. risk / records management
  • Understanding of Data Protection Act 2018, Privacy & Electronic Communications Regulations and the EU General Data Protection Regulations
  • Proven experience in an information governance or similar field such as risk management/records management
  • Experience responding to IG incidents and subject access requests
  • Experience identifying and managing IG risks
  • Experience providing IG advice and guidance in relation to IG issues (incidents, queries, Subject Access Requests), and producing training and guidance materials
  • Proven experience producing quantitative and qualitative reports for senior stakeholders
  • Demonstrative ability to communicate to staff on technical matters in a clear and engaging way
  • Proven experience managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines

  • Data Owners, Data Managers and Data Protection Leads from across the organisation
  • Non staff members when managing Individual Rights Requests

In this role, you will achieve…

  • Completion of Individual Rights Requests within required time frames
  • Completion of Data Privacy Impact Assessments
  • Completion of Legitimate Interest Assessments
  • Review and make recommendations on Information Assets
  • Attend directorate and departmental Information Governance groups
