Blue Ventures is a marine conservation organization that puts people first. We support coastal fishers in remote and rural communities to rebuild fisheries, restore ocean life and build lasting pathways to prosperity. Our work began two decades ago in Madagascar’s remote coastal communities and is growing globally.
Across a dozen countries, we’re partnering with traditional fishers and community organizations to design, scale, strengthen and sustain fisheries management and conservation at the community level. We bring partners together in networks to advocate for reform, and share tools and best practices to support fishing communities across the globe.
Summary job description
This role is for a Data Protection Officer (DPO) to ensure Blue Ventures meets its obligations under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the UK Data Protection Act 2018. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer/Chair of the Board of Trustees, the statutory DPO will monitor compliance and data practices internally to ensure the organisation and its functions comply with the applicable requirements under the GDPR/DPA 2018. The DPO will be responsible for staff training, data protection impact assessments, and internal audits. The DPO will also serve as the primary contact for supervisory authorities and individuals whose data is processed by the organisation.
You will thrive in environments that are collegiate and ambitious, and be able to demonstrate experience of working independently and solving complex problems in challenging situations.
In this role, you will work closely with the Legal, Compliance, Public Policy, and Information Security functions to develop and monitor policies and standards applicable to the business in compliance with the GDPR/DPA 2018 and other regional legislation in countries BV operates in.

The role:
We are seeking an experienced and committed campaigner to lead EIA’s strategy, investigations, and advocacy on mining-driven deforestation.
The Forest Mining Campaign Lead will investigate, analyse and advocate around mining operations and supply chains that drive deforestation, human rights abuses, and environmental harm. Working in close collaboration with partners in Indonesia, the initial focus is primarily on nickel, and coal with Indonesia as a key producer country and an emphasis on international markets and consumption.
The role will develop and deliver governance strategies to reduce the impact of mining on forests, strengthen accountability and transparency, and support communities affected by extractive industries. It will also support the goals of our climate campaign. This work is part of a larger forest program and will support our cross-cutting end goals.
About you:
- You must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience including proven capacity in leading campaigns or projects in the fields of extractives, forests, environmental justice and human rights.
- You will have strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to translate complex findings into compelling advocacy outputs.
- You will have experience engaging with government, corporate, and civil society stakeholders at national and international levels.
- You must be committed to environmental justice, Indigenous rights, and community-led approaches.
- You will need strong written and verbal communication skills in English and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in multicultural, cross-regional teams. Proficiency in other languages like Bahasa Indonesia would be an advantage.
- Due to the nature of the role, you will need to be able to travel outside the UK at short notice.
- Ideally you will also have solid budgetary experience.
- Experience of strategic campaign planning and fundraising and experience in investigative research or supply chain analysis would be an advantage.
- Ideally you would have knowledge of mining governance frameworks, trade systems, and financial flows, and familiarity with international policy processes (e.g., UN, OECD, EU, IFC).
What we offer:
Location: Hybrid Working possible – UK-based role, offices in London Islington at least 2 days per week and remaining home working. International travel is required as part of the role.
Hours: 40 hours per week, including a paid hour for lunch
Salary: £48,000-£51,500 per annum depending on experience

Position Overview:
EJF is seeking a dynamic, experienced Campaign Manager to coordinate and drive our emerging climate and ocean campaigns. This senior role will help deliver EJF’s ambitious goals to drive global action to avoid climate breakdown and safeguard ocean ecosystems.
From defending climate refugees to stopping deep-sea mining, you will work on a diverse range of issues. You will possess the strategic foresight, political acumen, and advocacy skills to secure high- impact outcomes across jurisdictions.
Reporting to the CEO and working alongside our global teams in 16 countries, you will lead cross-cutting campaign initiatives, oversee implementation, and support on-the-ground teams to amplify their reach and influence.
This is a role for an experienced, action-oriented campaigner who is deeply committed to environmental justice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the execution of EJF’s emerging climate and ocean campaign areas, aligning national and global advocacy.
- Lead campaign initiatives on issues including climate refugees, fossil fuel divestment, mitigation, protection of blue carbon, stopping deep-sea mining and industrial fishing bans in marine protected areas.
- Monitor relevant policy developments, identify key opportunities, and represent EJF in strategic spaces, including multilateral forums, legislative meetings and media.
- Collaborate with international offices to strengthen campaign coordination, knowledge- sharing and cohesive messaging across regions.
- Work with EJF’s investigations, research, and communications teams to produce and deploy impactful policy briefings, reports and other campaign materials.
- Engage with partners, funders and other allies to build coalitions and support for campaign goals.
- Contribute to internal capacity building and mentor junior team members as required.
Essential Skills and Attributes:
- At least 5–7 years of professional experience delivering high-impact environmental or human rights campaigns with demonstrated strategic impact.
- Strong leadership and project management skills, including experience coordinating complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives.
- Excellent political judgement and policy advocacy skills; confident engaging with government, civil society and private sector audiences.
- First-class writing and presentation abilities, with an ability to translate complex issues into persuasive communications.
- Experience working internationally to deliver campaign impacts.
