Brief role description
Working within our Communications team, you will play a central role in strengthening the charity’s public profile by supporting the delivery of media activity across national, regional, trade and specialist media that showcase the impact of the charity’s services. You will identify newsworthy opportunities, write press releases, pitch stories to journalists and support the delivery of integrated communications campaigns.
A significant part of the role will involve finding, developing and sharing the stories of the people we support. You will interview veterans, service leavers, military spouses and employers, turning their experiences into engaging content for media features, website articles, case studies, social media campaigns, stakeholder communications and funding reports.
This role suits someone with strong news instincts, excellent skills at developing press releases, pitches and statements and the confidence to manage multiple priorities at once. You’ll thrive in a fast-paced, varied working environment, be full of creative ideas and know how to unearth stories that bring our services to life.
Who we're looking for
We're looking for an experienced communications, PR or media professional with a proven track record of securing coverage across print, broadcast and online media. You'll have experience working in a press office, communications or journalism environment and be confident handling media enquiries and building positive relationships with journalists and other stakeholders.
You'll be a strong writer who can produce engaging press releases, statements, media briefings and other content for a range of audiences. You'll have a good understanding of what makes a compelling news story, experience creating impactful content, and the ability to turn complex information into clear and engaging communications. You'll also be comfortable using media monitoring and evaluation to understand what is working and help shape future activity.

About the role

This is a critical, income-generating role responsible for growing Perennial’s Individual Giving programme and increasing unrestricted income, with a primary focus on supporter acquisition and on supporter development and retention.
This role translates strategy into delivery by converting audiences into supporters, and supporters into income, so our Services team can provide meaningful impact in people’s lives and income into meaningful impact.

Cardiomyopathy UK's Director of Research and External Affairs leads the charity's research, policy and advocacy, and communications and marketing functions, with a team of four staff. The post-holder sets the strategic direction of the directorate, drives high-quality delivery, upholds the charity's values, and represents the charity externally. The Director is a member of the charity's Leadership Team, working closely with the CEO to steer the charity forward.
For the right person, this is an opportunity with real strategic scope. We want to build on our strong policy positions and evidence base and translate them into more proactive campaigning and influencing, moving from good policy thinking to concerted public affairs activity, strategic stakeholder engagement, and campaigns that achieve real change.
The Director will also lead the next phase of our research work, following our inaugural research grant-funding activity and James Lind Alliance top ten work. They will work with the Research Manager and our clinical and academic partners to better define and deliver our ambitions.
Raising awareness of cardiomyopathy, its signs, symptoms and genetic risk, is also within the team's scope. Too many people are still diagnosed late because neither they nor their GP knew what to look for. The Director will drive our communications and marketing agenda purposefully, equally ensuring the charity’s external profile is actively managed and enhanced.

We're looking for a leader who is a collaborative and inclusive, able to build trust with staff, colleagues, external partners and the Board. They will have strong strategic, analytical and planning skills, with the ability to develop coherent strategies. Steamship Shieldhall is seeking to appoint an experienced freelance Commercial Manager to build new income streams to support the ongoing operation, conservation and sustainability of one of the country's most significant historic ships.
Shieldhall is berthed year-round in Southampton and welcomes passengers and visitors on board from 110 Berth in the Western Docks. She is capable of carrying up to 220 passengers and from spring to autumn each year operates a programme of public sailings ranging from two hour trips to full day cruises. She is also open for alongside events, and is available for private charters. In addition, she can be hired for use alongside such as for training activities, meetings, functions and filming.
The Commercial Manager will be responsible for identifying and realising new opportunities for revenue generation for Steamship Shieldhall, as well as supporting Shieldhall’s experienced volunteers with maximising income from existing activities.
This commission is an important element of the “Steamship Shieldhall: towards 2055, the next 10 years” project which is supported by a Development Phase grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. The appointment is intended to cover both the Development Phase and the first two years of the Delivery Phase of our project but will include a break-clause between the two phases. The Delivery Phase contract is contingent on a successful Delivery Phase grant application to the Heritage Fund

JOB PURPOSE
This is a pivotal role within The Passage’s Fundraising Team, created to help support the transformation of our supporter data systems and ensure we become a more data informed, insight driven organisation and fundraising team. You will be the main contact for the fundraising CRM working with the fundraising team and other teams within The Passage such as finance and IT to ensure the smooth running of all systems and processes.
As the dedicated data and CRM Manager for Fundraising and Communications, you will support colleagues with reporting, analysis, campaign set-up and selections, and data strategy. Your work will ensure our data is accurate, accessible, and GDPR-compliant, enabling smarter decision-making, improved supporter journeys, and to help grow income. You will also be working with the Marketing and Communications team to implement email soft opt-in for our supporters. This is a unique opportunity to shape how we use data to engage, retain, and grow our supporter base at a time of exciting change.
MAIN DUTIES
1. Fundraising CRM Project Leadership
Manage and maintain the current Salesforce system, ensuring it remains functional, accurate, and fit for the purposes of stewarding donors and maintaining accurate records of donations
Act as the day-to-day lead for the CRM system within the Fundraising and Communications team, ensuring it meets team needs and supports strategic goals.
Document workflows, integrations and processes to ensure the long-term sustainability and usability of the system for vital processes such as donation processing and gift aid
Work with IT and the fundraising team to evaluate onboard 3rd party platforms to support fundraising initiatives. Ensure any changes are approved with senior stakeholders and documented.
Be a custodian of GDPR within the Fundraising team and be the main point of contact with The Passage’s Data protection lead and ensure all policies and procedures are up to date and in line with current fundraising regulations.
2.CRM and Data Management
Work collaboratively with the IT team and procurement team as the fundraising representative to recommend improvements to the current CRM and any other related projects.
Maintain and improve the quality of supporter data through regular cleansing, deduplication, and tagging to ensure accuracy and GDPR compliance.
Ensure ongoing system performance and data integrity by embedding data hygiene routines and best practices.
Work with the Finance team to support integration between the CRM and finance systems for seamless donation and income reporting.
Working with data flows and setting up integrations, ensuring the system runs smoothly on an ongoing basis, making updates, troubleshooting issues whilst maintaining data consistency.
Work on system migrations and leading on maintaining proper process structures and documentation during those transitions. Keep track of installed packages, security keys, and their passwords and related administrative processes.
Be responsible for all data imports from our 3rd party platforms, ensure that data is uploaded in line with regular upload schedule in an accurate manner.
Work with the Marketing and Communications team to help implement soft opt-in
Manage one database volunteer to complete database tasks.
3. Data Selections, Segmentation and Campaign Support
Collaborate with the Fundraising team to perform targeted data selections for appeals, newsletters, stewardship journeys, and events.
Develop and maintain segmentation structures and logic to support personalised supporter journeys and strategic targeting.
Work closely with the Marketing and Communications team to provide campaign-ready data for fundraising, advocacy, and engagement activities.
4. Reporting and Insight
Design, build, and maintain dashboards and reports that provide real time insight into fundraising performance, donor behaviour and campaign results.
Create and deliver regular and ad hoc fundraising analysis to inform strategic decisions and performance tracking.
Proactively identify opportunities to improve donor retention, upgrade journeys and lifetime value through data driven insight.
5. Cyber Security
Work closely with the IT team to manage security/GDPR of the Fundraising crm
Develop knowledge in this area and undertake training as required.
6. Other Duties:
Provide ad-hoc administrative support to the Fundraising and Communications team.
Support and attend fundraising events as required.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Stay up to date on policies/news/regulations relating to the role
Work with the Supporter Engagement Officer on shared tasks and provide reports as required and troubleshoot any issues
Proactively flag any data integrity issues with Line Manager and help develop action plans as required.
