The role is responsible for leading the Corporate, Foundations and Sport Partnerships teams which is an income portfolio of circa £50m annually, and the delivery of UNICEF UK’s ambitious strategies and plans to raise funds and leverage child rights advancing support through partnerships.
You will have strong team leadership skills and proven expertise in setting an ambitious and proactive growth culture, enabling fundraisers to prioritise their output and deliver the organisation’s ambition of higher value, multi-year partnerships whilst managing the budgets in line with the financial modelling set out in the 2023-26 strategy. You will be able to evidence effectively working in large complex organisations and have experience of working in a collaborative leadership role and will represent UNICEF UK and lead teams forward against the delivery of our strategic framework.

The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust UK is seeking a creative and experienced Communications Officer to join our team for up to 14 months as maternity cover, beginning in September 2024. This is a varied role, through which the postholder will be a part of our small team in the UK. The role is on-site, based at the charity’s office in Billingshurst, West Sussex.
WHO WE ARE:
The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust has worked for over 47 years to protect wildlife and habitats in Kenya. Its projects include Anti-Poaching, Veterinary Intervention, Aerial Operations, Habitat Protection, Human-Wildlife Conflict Mitigation, and the rescue and rehabilitation of orphaned elephants, rhinos, and other wild species, all working towards a sustainable future for wildlife and communities.
In 2004, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust UK (SWT UK) was established to protect and preserve African wildlife. Through relationship building and informed communications we raise funds to undertake direct conservation activities in Kenya, and to provide grants to SWT Kenya and other NGOs, to save wild lives and secure habitats.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
As our Communications Officer, you will be responsible for managing the communications of the UK charity, inspiring and engaging both new and existing supporters. You will:
- Organise, create and schedule well-written, engaging content for a range of different audiences across various channels including email, print, and social media so that we communicate our news and story effectively.
- Maintain and develop the charity’s catalogue of marketing and communications assets, in line with charity brand guidelines, so that staff can easily access resources they need.
- Oversee, develop, and implement our communications plan, working closely with colleagues from SWT UK, and collaboratively with those from SWT Kenya, and SWT USA.
- Identify and explore opportunities to communicate conservation success stories so that we can engage new supporters in the charity.
- Write press releases, respond to media enquiries, and develop working relationships with relevant media contacts.
- Handle administrative tasks, to include reporting on donor giving, campaign effectiveness, and digital analytics, so we can produce effective communications.
- Maintain the media library, and providing support to other team members.
- Occasional new projects and responsibilities in keeping with the role and remit.

Background:
Due to significant losses during the Covid pandemic, a Club appeal for donations was launched in 2020. The Friends of the RAF Club was established in 2021 to recognize these generous Members, many of whom have maintained their donations which have subsequently funded key refurbishment projects in the Club. Support of The Friends contributes significantly to the Club’s financial recovery.
Key Responsibilities:
The Director of Fundraising will be expected to deliver in 3 key areas:
DEVELOPMENT OF THE MEMBERSHIP GIVING JOURNEY
- Enhance the Friends Scheme through life giving and particularly ending with the Legacy commitment:
- Review and manage the fundraising strategy
- Retain, recruit and steward the Friends of the RAF Club
- Devise and implement a legacy strategy
- Devise and implement a series of engagement and stewardship events for the Friends of the RAF Club
CAPITAL CAMPAIGNS
- Deliver the funding to help pay for capital projects within the Club:
- In liaison with the House Committee, devise and manage the 2025 appeal campaign to fund the refurbishment of The Running Horse Tavern (the Club’s onsite ‘pub’)
DELIVERY OF ASSOCIATED ADMINISTRATION
- In compliance with the Fundraising Code, GDPR and all other associated regulations:
- Run Friends and Legacy schemes
- Timely and appropriate communication and follow-up with all relevant parties (accepting this is a part-time role)
- Event delivery for Friends events
- Manage the systems and processes to track, administer and report on donations received
- Prepare and produce fundraising marketing collateral.

SOHK will soon launch its new and ambitious organisational strategy to drive growth and impact. Key Responsibilities
- Deliver the Marketing & Communications strategy. Work with the Director of Fundraising and Marketing Consultant to contribute to the development of the the Marketing and Communications Strategy. Lead the delivery of the strategy, track progress and report risks and opportunities to senior leadership team.
- Brand management and development. Maintain and evolve the charity's brand identity. Ensure consistent messaging across all channels.
- Social media management. Plan, schedule and create content for multiple channels. Ensure timely publication and distribution of content. Develop and manage social media content and campaigns. Monitor social media engagement and analytics to refine campaigns.
- Digital marketing. Lead the development of all digital marketing to achieve audience reach and income targets.
- Analytics & analysis. Track and analyse the performance of campaigns by monitoring relevant analytics. Use data to adjust strategies and improve outcomes. Conduct regular competitor analysis to ensure we maximise reach. Develop routine end of campaign analytical reviews and reports.
- Stakeholder Engagement. Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including ambassadors and celebrity patrons, providing them with all the assets and materials they need. Develop strategies for stakeholder communication and engagement. Work with partners to create mutually beneficial communications strategies.
- MarComms Advisory Panel Engagement. Engage with our voluntary MarComms Advisory Panel of experts to maximise success of our strategy.
- Graphic Design. Using design software, create promotional and programme delivery materials such as brochures, posters, challenge event packs and social media graphics in line with brand guidelines. Create visual content for all digital platforms.
- Video Content Creation. Conduct interviews with beneficiaries on camera to capture their stories. Edit video footage optimising for use in large-scale event films and for social media content. Develop engaging video content to promote the charity's mission and activities.

The role
We are seeking a dynamic Director of Income Generation to join our senior leadership team. This new and pivotal role will be responsible for developing and implementing robust income generation strategies to diversify and grow our funding and trading streams.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in fundraising or sales, building strategic partnerships, and driving innovation in income generation. As a key player in our organisation, you will lead a dedicated team and work collaboratively to ensure the sustainability and expansion of our vital programmes.
Key responsibilities
Income Generation Strategy:

Develop and execute a comprehensive income generation strategy that aligns with the charity’s mission and goals;

Identify and explore new income streams, including fundraising, partnerships, and product development.
Fundraising:

Overview
The Green Team was founded in 1995 to support young people to succeed in achieving the Duke of Edinburgh award. Since then, the team has grown significantly and now offers nine programmes along with corporate volunteering days and holiday activities. From one member of staff and a few volunteers, we now have 10 staff and over 50 volunteers.
The growth of the team since 1995 has been primarily driven by our current CEO, Penny Radway. The size of the organisation and number of programmes run mean that we believe the time is right to introduce a dual CEO approach. Penny will focus on CEO responsibilities for delivering our programmes.
The role
To co-lead the charity promoting the mission, aims, values and objectives, be directly responsible for specific agreed areas of the charity’s corporate operations while overseeing and ensuring the success of these operations. To increase income generation, specifically unrestricted funds, enhance existing financial controls, and impact reporting. To also ensure there are clear and impactful communications, partnerships and marketing approaches for the development of the Green Team.
