The Role: Remixing Our Visual Identity

We are seeking a talented and passionate Volunteer Graphic Designer to join our founding team. You will be instrumental in translating our powerful mission into compelling visual assets that elevate our profile and help us secure vital support.

Key Responsibilities:

• Campaign Asset Creation: Designing graphics for ongoing campaigns, including volunteer recruitment, fundraising drives, and programme promotion across social media (Instagram, X, LinkedIn).

• Print Collateral: Designing professional, branded assets such as:

  • Roller Banners for events and outreach.

  • Posters and Flyers for programme promotion in the target boroughs.

• Portfolio: A portfolio or examples of previous work demonstrating strong typography, layout, and visual communication skills.

• Reliability: The ability to work independently, manage your time effectively, and meet agreed-upon deadlines within a flexible schedule.

Citizens Advice Merton and Lambeth is a local charity dedicated to providing information, support and advice to individuals and families who live, work or study in Merton or Lambeth. We also work to raise awareness and understanding of the challenging issues affecting our clients and communities.

The Research and Campaigns volunteer will support CAML in its aims by researching and gathering information and evidence from our advisers on key issues adversely affecting residents in the boroughs of Merton and Lambeth, in order to make a positive difference to their lives through local and national campaigns.

Aim of this role

Raise awareness of Research and Campaigns

- Keep up-to-date with trends of the concerns affecting clients locally as well as areas identified by national Citizens Advice, and raise call for evidence

- Research and gather quality information on key issues affecting local residents

- Prepare and provide letters, reports and content about the work of the organisation and the impact of funded services

- Ensure all volunteers/staff are aware of the purpose of Research and Campaigns and how to write evidence forms

- Produce useful, appealing and easily accessible campaign materials and publications for informational purposes.

- Campaign at local and national level

- Feed back to assessors and advisers on the results of their work and provide them with assistance in completing evidence forms.

- Understand how evidence from the experience of clients is used to promote change in policy and practice

Locations

This role is based in our Mitcham office with some occasional traveling to our other offices in Morden and Kennington. All three offices are well-connected to public transport, and the office in Mitcham has a car park.

What we are looking for

- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential

- Understanding of the importance of Research and Campaigns work in identifying key current social issues, and their potential impact on clients

- The ability to build and maintain professional relationships and contribute constructively as part of the R&C team, as well as wider CAML team

- The ability to give feedback clearly and sensitively

- Good report-writing skills with the ability to condense important information and explain to a range of audiences. Able to research, analyse and explain complex information

- You will have good organisational and time management skills with the ability to work towards set deadlines. Ability to work on own initiative, within given guidelines

- Confidence in using a range of IT software to research and analyse data

- Satisfactory references are required before joining the charity

Fine Cell Work (FCW) is a UK-based rehabilitation charity and social enterprise. We are supported by an incredible team of prison volunteers who are the link between the charity and the stitchers we work with in prison. Our volunteers run fortnightly stitching groups in the prisons we work with to facilitate our stitchers’ production of high-quality needlework.

Our prison volunteers work in small teams to teach our stitchers’ embroidery and needlepoint, organise their group sessions, and liaise with the prison and FCW office.

What you will do as a prison volunteer:

• Teach people in prison how to stitch and support the completion of our premade kits in our cell groups, which consist of around 10-15 stitchers.
• Communicate with staff at our hub in Battersea to receive kits and supplies for your group and send back completed work for your stitchers to be paid.
• Encourage and help stitchers to complete our Open College Network certifications in creative needlework.
• Develop stitchers’ skills and confidence by encouraging them to take responsibility as peer mentors.
• Act as an ambassador for the charity and sharing our vision and values throughout your volunteering.

Who we are looking for:

• Skills in embroidery and/or needlepoint or a willingness to learn to stitch is essential for this role.
• Ideally some teaching experience or experience working with socially-excluded groups.
• Someone with a non-judgemental attitude and commitment to rehabilitation.
• Someone who is an excellent team worker.
• Someone who is good at observing personal boundaries.

Commitment: our stitching groups run for 2 hours every fortnight, so with travel time and some admin work after groups we ask prison volunteers to set aside a morning or afternoon every 2 weeks.

You must be over 18 for this role with the ability to travel to the prison. Travel expenses will be reimbursed by the charity.
