Job description

An exciting opportunity to fundraise from charitable trusts and major donors for education, healthcare and interreligious projects which benefit people of all faiths and none in the Middle East, Horn of Africa and India.

JOB PURPOSE:

The Fundraising Manager – Trusts & Major Donors – is a job share (full-time or part-time, with flexible working from home & office)  which is responsible for identifying, developing and managing a pipeline of grant-making trusts, foundations, institutional donors and individual major donors, preparing funding applications for donors in the UK and overseas and securing gifts and grants in support of the charity’s work. 

ABOUT THE CHARITY:

Fellowship and Aid to the Christians of the East (FACE) is a Christian charity which draws on 170 years’ experience of helping Eastern Christians to remain in their homelands, where Christianity was born and first spread. FACE enables people of all faiths and none in the Middle East, the Horn of Africa and India to free themselves from a life of poverty, inequality and injustice. Together with the local Christian communities, we aim to bring lasting change to those regions through education, healthcare and interreligious projects.

KEY DELIVERABLES:

1. SECURING GRANTS FROM TRUSTS AND FOUNDATIONS

  • Developing and managing a pipeline of grant-making trusts, foundations and institutional donors
  • Developing and managing cultivation plans to trusts and foundations
  • Preparing and submitting high quality funding proposals in line with strategic objectives and the funder’s requirements in order to sustain and increase income from trusts
  • Researching potential new trust and foundations supporters
  • Initiating and building relationships with current and new grant-making trusts and foundations face-to-face and by phone and email
  • Identifying suitable projects that match with donors’ interests and funding requirements
  • Delivering own financial targets as well as contributing to team annual income targets
  • Preparing and submitting timely and compelling narrative and financial reports to funders that demonstrate the impact of the work that has been funded

2. DEVELOPING SUPPORT FROM MAJOR DONORS

  • Identifying, researching and evaluating prospective major donors and developing individual cultivation strategies for the top prospects
  • Initiating and building relationships with prospective major donors in order to sustain and increase income from major donors
  • Soliciting gifts at face-to-face meetings, sometimes involving trustees or influential stakeholders
  • Providing swift and reassuring feedback to donors that meets their needs and expectations; providing timely and compelling reports as required and thanking promptly as soon as gifts are received
  • Assisting with the organisation of donor cultivation and stewardship events

3. SYSTEMS

  • Ensuring that donor transactions and communications are promptly and accurately recorded on the supporter database and in compliance with data protection legislation
  • Ensuring that FACE’s policies are adhered to and that all activities are undertaken in line with FACE’s policies and procedures.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Experience of managing a prospect pipeline of trusts, foundations and major donors
  • A track record of securing major grants and gifts from trusts, foundations and high net-worth individuals at a five and six figure level
  • Experience of organising donor events or attending as an active member of the ‘home team’
  • Knowledge of the current funding landscape in the UK and of trends in philanthropy
  • Experience of using relationship databases and Microsoft Word and Excel

Desirable

  • Experience of working with trustees and influential stakeholders
  • Experience of working with an international development and/or faith-based charity
  • An understanding of the Catholic Church and its networks
  • Some knowledge of the socio-economic situation of the Greater Middle East

SKILLS, ABILITIES AND BEHAVIOUR

Essential

  • Polished writing skills with the ability to articulate complex issues persuasively and to adapt the style of writing to different types of funding applications and communications
  • The ability to meet application deadlines and to manage conflicting priorities effectively
  • The acuity to make decisions on when and at what level to make the financial ask, sometimes involving trustees or peer-to-peer senior volunteers
  • Good negotiating skills and an ability to ‘close the deal’
  • The ability to understand and interpret the salient points in a financial budget
  • The ability to scan the external environment to keep up to date on giving trends and best practice in fundraising
  • Self-motivated with an entrepreneurial mindset and a willingness to work collaboratively as a member of a small team on all aspects of FACE’s fundraising and to ‘pitch in’ willingly to help when needed.

Location: Central London – with flexibility for home working 

Contract type: Permanent or contract – job share

Salary:  £35,000 per annum (pro-rata, for part-time)

Hours per week: Full-time or Part-time 

Holidays: 28 days per year including public holidays (pro-rata)
