Combating Loneliness and Social Isolation across London and Beyond!

This is an exciting new role, the purpose of which is to gather feedback from both clients and stakeholder to assess the broader impact of our work.

We are looking for a volunteer to undertake follow up phone calls to clients, this might be after an intervention with them or at intervals after closure. To ensure we a complaint with GDPR, we record consent, and this is stored on our inhouse Client database CRM. 

The volunteer will be provided with a list of questions to ask to gather feedback and would be expected to detail the responses. 

Suggested Involvement: Approximately one day per week (can be more & can be flexible around your commitments) 

Availability: This volunteering opportunity will take place within our working hours, Monday-Friday, 9am – 5pm

As a Client and Stakeholder Feedback Volunteer, you’ll be supporting the day-to-day work of Shelter’s and providing updates on client's experiences. Volunteers are essential to Shelter’s mission to end housing injustice. We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds. The insights and life experience our volunteers bring to Shelter are valued as much as their contribution through volunteering. 

We aim to provide our volunteers with a positive experience. This is by prioritising accessibility and tailoring the support we provide to the needs of the individual. We make sure our policies and processes are equitable, which means that no-one is unfairly disadvantaged while volunteering because of their background or identity. 

Main Tasks include 

• Make follow-up phone calls to stakeholder and clients after they have accessed our services to gather feedback from them. 

• Ask set questions when speaking with stakeholders and clients to see if and how advice has made a difference to them and record their responses. 

• Assessing and adding in quantitative and qualitative data to our client database (CRM). 

• Present the responses in an accessible format e.g. using Word or Excel. 

• Identify key findings and/or trends and discuss with relevant team member(s) 

• Provide insight into improvements for the activities involved 

Skills and experience required 

The aim of the post is to gather information and feedback regarding the service we offer and the impact this has made. Therefore, we are looking for somebody who is:

• Comfortable interacting with stakeholders in person and over the telephone 

• Is considerate of tone and language during interactions. 

• Has good listening skills. 

• Has strong written skills and the ability to take detailed and accurate notes of the discussion whilst on the telephone or in person. 

• Has good IT skills, including experience using MS Office software such as Excel and Forms. 

• Is resilient to potentially challenging conversations, while understanding the boundaries of the role.

This role will allow us to see the effects of the housing advice and workshop delivery received by clients and professionals and if there are any additional impacts such as increased sense of stability or more confidence in their rights.

Are you passionate about supporting people to improve their language and communication skills? If you’re knowledgeable in the field of ESOL and able to facilitate engaging, in-person sessions for adult learners, we’d love to hear from you! 

Purpose of role 
We are looking for a highly motivated, experienced and creative tutor with excellent interpersonal, numeracy and digital skills; excellent written English and efficient organisational skills to teach one of our outreach classes in South Kensington, London every Saturday from 16:00-18:00.

Start – 07/06/2025 (negotiable)

End – 02/08/2025 (negotiable)

The course is aimed at learners designed for English speakers of other languages at Entry 3/ Level 1 who want to further develop their English language skills along with their employment skills. Learners can choose to specialise in retail, care or other vocational area. Learners will focus on the fundamentals required in a working environment, bolstering their confidence in writing and reading skills and communication abilities.

Skills/ experience

• CELTA or similar qualification is desirable
• Teaching experience is desirable

The aim is to support adult learners who need to improve their English language skills, working both individually and as part of the Adult Education team to plan and deliver an agreed number of ESOL courses.

VOLUNTEER CHAIR/COORDINATOR

Across the UK, our 65 local branches help disabled people live the lives they choose. Our network of skilled volunteers respond to thousands of requests each year to design and make customised equipment free of charge.

As your local Chair or Coordinator, you’ll take the lead in making sure your local branch works as effectively as possible. You’ll recruit, induct, and support other branch volunteers to make sure your branch’s activities meet the needs of your local disabled community.

You’ll bring your leadership, communication, organisation, and motivational skills to this role.

What the role involves

This is a varied role where local need shapes what you’ll be working on, but it often includes:

•  Coordinating the activities of our local branch to undertake and meet the needs of  referrals in your area

• Coordinating and chairing the branch meetings

• Leading the branch’s shared responsibility for planning and completing referrals

• Coordinating the recruitment, induction, and ongoing support of new local branch volunteers

• Approving income and expenditure with the other branch bank account signatories  and ensuring with the Treasurer that our financial requirements and policies relating to branches are followed

• Ensuring the branch’s activities comply with policies to keep people safe

• Regularly communicate and act as a key contact between staff and volunteer

Your Role as Project Management Lead

• Coordinating Charity Registration: Assisting the Board with the Charity Commission registration process, ensuring all documentation is prepared and submitted accurately.

• Developing Operational Frameworks: Helping to establish key internal processes, systems, and administrative procedures for the charity.

• Policy & Compliance Support: Working with Trustees to develop and implement essential policies, including safeguarding, data protection (GDPR), and volunteer management.

• Resource Management: Assisting with initial resource identification, such as potential office space, IT needs, and necessary supplies.

• Project Planning & Tracking: Creating and managing project plans for various set-up tasks, ensuring deadlines are met and progress is tracked effectively.

We are looking for a Program Coordinator for our Adult Education Program based in Ioannina, for a minimum commitment of 6 months.

In this role, you’ll be coordinating the implementation of language classes and associated tasks at two refugee camps: Katsikas and Agia Eleni.

The majority of the students are from Syria, Afghanistan, and Iraq. The sites have two to four English classes each day, which are differentiated by English ability from A0 to A2. 

Role description

You will…

• Coordinate and manage daily operations of the adult education program
• Develop the program in coordination with the Programs Manager
• Assess impact and effectiveness against program objectives
• Ensure that teachers are equipped with the necessary knowledge to complete their administrative tasks to a high standard and in a timely fashion
• Conduct regular class observations, providing teachers with quality feedback on their teaching
• Provide new teachers with key insights into language teaching in the refugee context
• Ensure inductions to and exits from the education team are smooth and effective, including successful handover of classes between teachers
• Liaise and collaborate with relevant local and national authorities and stakeholders and represent Second Tree in relevant external meetings
• Capture and compile monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) reports in line with program deadlines
• Ensure overall management of the program, guaranteeing quality and relevance

Skills 

You have…

• University Degree in Education/Teaching
• Certificate in English language teaching (TEFL/TESOL/CELTA or equivalent)
• Experience in developing and delivering teacher training

We need a meticulous, organised, and pragmatic individual with solid financial experience. You'll likely possess:

• Financial Management Expertise: Proven experience in bookkeeping, accounting, financial administration, or setting up financial systems, ideally within the charity or non-profit sector.

• Systems Setup Experience: Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks) and setting up financial processes (e.g., expense management, payment processing, budget tracking).

• Compliance Knowledge: Understanding of basic financial regulations for charities in the UK, including Gift Aid (though specific expertise isn't required for setup, awareness is a plus).

• Attention to Detail: Meticulous in ensuring accuracy and compliance in all financial records.

• Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify financial needs and recommend practical, efficient solutions.

Your Role as Finance Volunteer

In this critical set-up phase, you will be instrumental in:

• Developing Financial Processes: Helping to design and document procedures for donations, expenses, payments, and financial reporting.

• Budgeting Support: Assisting in the creation of initial operational budgets and financial forecasts.

• Bank Account Setup: Providing guidance and support related to setting up the charity's bank accounts.

• Compliance Foundations: Advising on initial steps for financial compliance and record-keeping required by the Charity Commission and HMRC.

• Expense Management: Establishing a clear system for tracking and processing volunteer expenses.

Community engagement charity Sobus is looking for talented, passionate individuals to join our Board of Trustees.  We are looking for a new Trustee Treasurer to help guide the charity through a time of exciting opportunity and development.

It's an exciting time for Sobus, as we look to refresh our service offer, and maximise the investment opportunity following the disposal of a property in 2024.

Our overarching aim is to “strengthen local communities”, through the provision of infrastructure support to the local voluntary sector in the borough of Hammersmith & Fulham and supporting business communities around our North Kensington hub.

Trustee Treasurer: We are seeking a committed individual with a proven, professional track record of financial management and leadership at the highest level, and a sound understanding and experience of the voluntary sector.  We need someone with significant experience of leading long-term strategic development and driving financial sustainability.

You will share our vision and want to take a leading role in our journey to be recognised as an outstanding organisation. It would be a significant advantage if you have an understanding or experience of working in the voluntary and community sector, and even more so if you are a current or former resident of Hammersmith & Fulham or have a tangible, established and current connection with the area.

Sobus was formed in 2014 following a merger between the Community & Voluntary Sector Association and Fulham Community Partnership Trust. However, we were first established as the local CVS in Hammersmith & Fulham in 1998.
