Military charities undertaking life-changing work need vital funds to support and sustain their work with beneficiaries.
One of the UK’s fastest-growing military charities, the Veterans’ Foundation was established in 2016 to support serving and former members of the armed forces, operationally qualified seafarers, and their families who are in need. Since its launch, the Foundation has awarded over £30 million in grants to nearly 500 charities and organisations delivering more than 1,000 life-changing projects across the UK. Grants range from a few hundred pounds to £200,000 and support a wide range of needs, including mental health, homelessness, poverty and social isolation. We are looking for x1 permanent full time (35 hours per week) and x1 0.5 FTE (17.5 hours per week) FTC (18 months) Grants Assessment Officers to join the Grants Team at the Veterans' Foundation. The Grants Assessment Officer plays a vital role in the assessment of grant requests and will maximise the impact and effectiveness of the Foundation’s funding by ensuring we are supporting projects and activities which are closely aligned to our strategic priorities.
The key focus of the role is the assessment of applications across our existing Grant Programmes, reviewing grant monitoring and providing appropriate levels of support to grant holders during the period of funding.
The post holder will help ensure our grant application processes run efficiently and effectively, carrying out thorough desk and UK-wide field-based assessment of applications made to the foundation. They will be a key point of contact for external enquiries to the Grants Team.

Key responsibilities:
- Undertake full and thorough assessment of funding requests, carrying out both in person and online meetings and tasks to ensure that detailed recommendations are written-up and presented for consideration within agreed lead times as defined within the schedule of Decision Meetings
- Work closely with the Grants Support Officer, helping to ensure that payments to current grant holders are released on a timely basis and within the context of agreed protocols and procedures
- Carry out monitoring reviews and visits of funded projects based on reporting provided by Grant Holders
- Assist with broader provision of information and guidance at the point of application and through attendance at funding/networking events
- Manage relationships with our Grant holders including working with them to resolve any issues raised during the period of funding
- Maintain relationships with our Grant Holders and stakeholders, to support them in resolving issues raised during the period of funding
- Contribute to the Grant Team’s ongoing efforts to innovate and improve processes which increase access and engagement for applicants and grant holders
- Provide support for Decision Meetings including preparation of Salesforce reports for decision meetings where grant applications are reviewed
- Assist in any other duties required for the efficient running of the Veterans’ Foundation Grants Programme.
Qualifications/Experience
- Knowledge of the Veterans’ Foundation, the UK funding landscape and current challenges faced by our grant holders and the wider voluntary sector
- Understanding of voluntary sector legal structures (constituted groups, charities and CICs) and their good governance
- Good knowledge of ‘Outcomes’ and ‘Indicators / Activities’ and their role in both demonstrating and considering the impact of projects
- Understanding of the impact charities are seeking to make and an ability to respond creatively to risks and opportunities they face

Additional Information

This role will be responsible for an effective and compliant operations function (finance, HR, programmes/projects, governance). KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Finance and HR
- Liaise with outsourced bookkeepers (also payroll providers) to ensure timely/accurate information flow.
- Oversee income and expenditure budgets and performance, processing of donations and scheduled payments, and ensuring accurate and consistent coding.
- Work with accountants to support year-end accounts and coordinate annual report production.
- Produce and circulate monthly management accounts and other reports for the Board.
- Support Trustees with designated responsibilities e.g. finance, risk, governance.
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding and HR record-keeping (including freelancers).
- Maintain accurate, compliant data in our CRM (Donorfy), including prompt input of donations.
Charitable projects
- Support the planning and coordination of secured charitable projects, liaising with project partners, monitoring delivery milestones, payment schedule and working with the wider team to maximise success.
- Compiling project monitoring/evaluation data from project partners to support excellent impact reporting.
Governance and operations
Together with the volunteer Charity Secretary:
- Coordination of Board meetings and AGMs, agendas, papers and minutes.
- Maintain central registers (trustee attendance/terms, governance documents, policies, risk, safeguarding training etc).
- Fulfil statutory and regulatory responsibilities, including filing of annual accounts.
- Advise trustees on governance best practice, in line with Charity Commission guidance.
- Management of policies, procedures and operational systems (including the CRM) that strengthen internal controls and identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency.
- Prepare Quarterly reports for the Board, and upon request.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and the Fundraising Code of Practice, including delivering the responsibility of data protection lead.

You will be responsible for:

- Developing individual giving income through enhanced communications, great stewardship and supporting on fundraising appeals.
- Nurturing our regular givers and looking for ways to grow our regular-giving donor base.
- Completing thanking processes efficiently for donations.
- Developing and managing tools and resources to support fundraising events such as sending out t-shirts, posters, flyers, donation boxes and fundraising packs when requested.
- Liaising with the communications team to create promotional materials to advertise events through the website and social media channels to increase engagement.
Administration
- Keeping accurate records of all prospect and supporter interactions on our CRM system, Raisers Edge NXT.
- Optimising fundraising and donation opportunities at key charity events, researching and recording information.
- Supporting the Fundraising and Development Manager as and when needed.

Overall Duties of the Finance Officer – Accounts Payable will include:
- Recording all changes to carer payments on the finance system, on the carer’s purchase ledger account.

The Senior Grant Officer will play a key role in assessing and administering grant applications, and in coordinating meetings with local voluntary Advisory Panels who help prioritise funding decisions.
The ideal candidate will be an excellent communicator, capable of navigating complex situations and identifying practical solutions. You’ll bring strong project management skills to oversee a diverse portfolio of funded projects, and be confident working independently while thriving as part of a collaborative team.
We’re seeking someone with at least one year of experience in project management or grant-making (ideally two), and a solid understanding of the Third Sector. A full UK driving licence and access to a car for business use is essential. Mileage is reimbursed at 45p per mile, and a hire car will be provided for journeys over 120 miles.
The post will be a home-based role located in the Northwest of England, with easy access to the M6 corridor. Preferred locations include Lancaster, Preston or Warrington. The successful candidate must remain based in this region throughout their employment to ensure accessibility to meetings for location-specific funds.
Occasional overnight stays will be required, along with travel to our Head Office in Milton Keynes for team meetings up to three times per year.

This position fulfils the National Flood Forum’s role as part of the Environment Agency’s Resilience and Innovation Fund FAIR approach to Community Flood Risk project. The project officer will help communities to work in partnership with flood risk management agencies to better manage flooding and its impacts in their area. This will involve working with communities at flood risk and agencies using methodologies developed by the National Flood Forum and used successfully around the country.
We are seeking someone warm and approachable, who will be required to work in Staffordshire and potentially other areas in England & Wales. You will need to be able to engage appropriately and effectively with grassroot communities at risk of flooding, as well as professional organisations and have proven project management skills.
Day to day you will work directly with members of the public in communities and liaise closely with external organisations.

About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for an Individual Giving Officer (Acquisition) to join our collaborative Individual Giving team.
As an Individual Giving Officer, you’ll lead the delivery of multi-channel campaigns designed to recruit new supporters and the ongoing supporter stewardship of these new donors. You’ll manage acquisition activity across products including cash giving, lottery, and regular giving, ensuring campaigns are delivered on time, within budget, and meet performance targets.
You’ll be responsible for the creative development of campaign assets, day-to-day agency collaboration, and the ongoing optimisation of supporter stewardship communications. From planning and reporting to evaluating impact, you’ll play a key role in shaping how we acquire new donors and retain our supporters.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Director-level communications professional with a strong background in knowledge translation of technical information to different audiences internationally.
