WCC is recruiting for voluntary positions to join our Board of Trustees.
Whether you are an experienced Trustee or wanting to take your first step at board level, we would like to hear from you.
Our Board comprises ten Trustees including the Chair and there are currently two vacancies.
We are particularly interested in people with skills and expertise to offer around:
- Financial experience and/or knowledge of charity accounting and the ability to apply this strategically
- Income generation/ fundraising skills and expertise
Trustee roles
Our trustees play a vital role in making sure that WCC achieves its core purpose. They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity. They also ensure that WCC has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Just as importantly, they support and challenge the executive team to enable WCC to grow and thrive, and through this, achieve our mission.
Trustees have a collective responsibility, and this means that they always act as a group and not as individuals.
Duties:
- Support and provide advice on WCC’s purpose, vision, goals, and activities
- Approve operational strategies and policies, and monitor and evaluate their implementation
- Oversee WCC’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress
- Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored, and controlled effectively
- Review and approve WCC’s financial statements
- Provide support and challenge to WCC’s senior manager in the exercise of their delegated authority and affairs
- Keep abreast of changes in WCC’s operating environment
- Contribute to regular reviews of WCC’s own governance. Attend Board meetings, adequately prepared to contribute to discussions.
• Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect WCC’s interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third-party interests
• Contribute to the broader promotion of WCC’s objects, aims and reputation by applying your skills, expertise, knowledge, and contacts.

Terms of appointment
- Trustees are appointed for a three-year term of office. Our Articles of Association state that one third of the trustees will retire from office at each AGM with the longest serving trustees retiring first. Trustees can stand for re-election at the same AGM
- This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses are reimbursed.
- Time commitment- approximately 8 hours per month
- Board meetings- attending four Board meetings annually (currently on Tuesday evenings). We alternate between meeting in-person at WCC’s office in Waterloo and online
- Sub-committees- we have two subcommittees (Finance & Operations, and Clinical) that meet in between Board meetings, with individual trustees attending one or more of these depending on skills and preferences.
- Two half day strategy days a year and training where needed
- Reading Board papers in advance, being involved in discussions, advising on specialist areas
- We hold an Annual General Meeting with all staff and members.
Time commitment
Approximately 8 hours per month

Establishing Financial Systems: Designing and setting up our complete financial management and control systems and processes, ensuring they are streamlined, easy to understand, and meet Charity Commission requirements.

Job Purpose
One Place London is a community interest company located in West London engaged in Acting for Film and Music Recording workshops for young people aged 14-25, unemployed or at risk of getting involved in crime. What we need from you
You’ll be:
- Supporting your team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure volunteers are happy and confident
- Making sure the team observes charity best practice and compliance
- Collaborating with your Branch Development Manager (BDM) to plan volunteer activity
- Leading the team to follow Cats Protection policies, procedures and guidelines
- Monitoring expenditure and helping ensure long term financial stability of the volunteer group
- Organising and chairing team meetings
- Acting as an ambassador for Cats Protection
Time expectation
Our branch team leader volunteers usually spend 10 to 15 hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed. There will be times of year when more hours are required, such as towards the end of the financial year, but support and guidance are available.

The difference you will make to cats and people
As a charity we are able to help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations we receive from members of the public. Our fundraising volunteers use their passion for cats and people to raise the vital funds needed to help more cats and kittens in need. As a fundraising volunteer we want to support you to fundraise in whatever way suits you best, whether that’s organising a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, completing administration or supporting the development of new fundraising ideas! Whatever your skill set, this could be the role for you!

What we need from you

- face-to-face fundraising. Organising or helping with fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, monitoring collection tins
- online fundraising. Setting up online appeals and writing impactful cat case studies that maximise donations
- marketing. Spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press
- completing administration. Processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork
● championing our work. Getting involved with developing new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement
● photography. Capturing images of cats in care, cats we are helping, events and all things Cats Protection
Time expectation
This is a flexible role that can fit around your other commitments to suit you. You’ll be part of a team raising vital funds while having fun in the process!

Detailed description
Mentoring within One YMCA is delivered through the youth team and volunteers. Young people aged 13-19 years can access the service which provides support and encouragement for young people to work towards their goals.
Mentors and mentees are paired based on experience, expertise and support needed.
This project will last for up to a year with each young person, with an average of 3-4 hours per month being given to the young person and their support.
Training for this role is due to commence on 22nd January 2025 (Time and Location TBC)
Pay: This is a voluntary role; however, expenses will be covered.
Key Responsibilities:
·To attend full induction training and complete all relevant child protection checks
·To arrange to meet with your mentee for 1-3 hours a month over a period of 12 months, in a public place.
·To prepare for your mentoring sessions with the purpose of progressing with their mutually agreed goals.
·To offer tailored support to your Mentee in areas such as confidence and resilience building, accessing services, careers focus and development. You may be working on a number of areas as the needs of your Mentee present themselves.
·To safeguard and promote the wellbeing of your Mentee.
·To complete feedback, monitoring and evaluation forms.
·To liaise with the mentoring coordinator for support in delivery of sessions where needed.
·To help identify the support that your Mentee requires, reporting any concerns you have to the mentoring coordinator.
·Completing regular reviews with your Mentee and mentoring coordinator.
·Any other reasonable task that is associated with the role.

Experience:
- Experience of working with young people
- Experience of working with young people from a variety of backgrounds
Skills:
- Ability to work on own initiative and a willingness to prepare for each session
- Ability to use online video platforms such as Microsoft Teams
- Ability to think creatively and problem solve
- Good communication skills
- Good organisational skills
- Ability to work as a part of a team
- A willingness to meet the young person in a public space
Personal Qualities:
- An interest in working with young people
- Ability to engage with a young person
- The willingness to have an open mind and non-judgemental approach to supporting a young person in their mentoring journey
- Ability to cope with potentially difficult conversations or situations
- Commitment to the mentoring project and to the Mentee
- Motivated by promoting the wellbeing of young people
- Commitment to and ability to work in accordance with ethos of One YMCA, their polices and boundaries

- Willing to undertake and induction and training
- Willing to provide 2 references
- Willing to undergo an enhanced Disclosure and Barring check (DBS)

The aim is to support adult learners who need to improve their Digital skills, working both individually and as part of the Adult Education team to plan and deliver an agreed number of Digital skills courses.

Course description:
This class is specifically aimed at learners (ESOL Entry 2 +) who want to develop their basic digital skills. We work a lot on essential computer functions such as turning devices on and off, using the mouse and navigating applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Lessons are based on a wide range of different topics, but will have a particular focus on practising their digital literacy skills.
You need to:
- Be passionate about helping people achieve their potential
- Be a qualified/experienced Digital Skills practitioner
- Be knowledgeable in your subject field
- Be able to carry out effective planning, monitoring and evaluation of courses
- Demonstrate a high level of computer literacy
