At Cats Protection we help thousands of cats and kittens each year thanks to our dedicated and passionate volunteer groups. We have branches across the UK, all of which help our cats in different ways. Branches take in stray and abandoned cats and ensure they receive the veterinary care and attention they deserve; help raise funds, promote neutering and help spread cat welfare messages. Our branch team leader volunteers lead their local team by supporting and managing volunteers within their group, maintaining communications with both volunteers and employees, and helping promote a positive and professional image of Cats Protection.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Supporting your team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure volunteers are happy and confident
• Making sure the team observes charity best practice and compliance
• Collaborating with your Branch Development Manager (BDM) to plan volunteer activity
• Leading the team to follow Cats Protection policies, procedures and guidelines
• Monitoring expenditure and helping ensure long term financial stability of the volunteer group
• Organising and chairing team meetings
• Acting as an ambassador for Cats Protection

Time expectation

Our branch team leader volunteers usually spend 10 to 15 hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed. There will be times of year when more hours are required, such as towards the end of the financial year, but support and guidance are available.

Why we want you

Prison in reach volunteers support members of the Armed Forces community who are in prison. They make a real difference by providing essential support during these incredibly difficult times.

Our volunteers work closely with veterans in custody support officers, attending veteran forums, and offering one to one support, including making applications for financial assistance. We also connect clients with organisations, to help support pathways for positive change.

Come and join our team! We value all our volunteers and the unique skills and experience they bring.

We are keen to increase volunteer diversity, especially from under-represented groups such as young people, those of working age and individuals from minoritised groups.

What you will be doing

• Attend group forums for veterans within the prison environment.
• Complete individual assessments and complete one to one personalised support for veterans within the prison environment, which includes casework.
• Promote the services available to family members.
• Establish an agreement around the rate of visits with the VCJS team and the prison.
• Record the support offered to veterans accordingly and appropriately.
• Complete monitoring reports.

The skills you need

• Be over 21.
• Have a good level of fitness to able to move around a prison quickly - including stairs.
• Excellent listening skills.
• Awareness of boundaries and confidentiality.
• Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a range of people, including prison staff, other agencies, SSAFA colleagues and clients.
• Positive, committed and non-judgemental. Non-judgemental and empathetic attitude.
• Good IT skills.
• An enhanced DBS check is required for this role. Individual prisons will determine if they authorise individuals to be based in their facilities based on security considerations. Security Vetting by His Majesty’s Prison Service is often required. For further discussion, please get in touch.
• You will need to declare potential conflicts of interest, for example any family connection with the prison.

PNH Support is celebrating its 10 year anniversary this year! Much has changed for patients living with the ultra-rare blood condition paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria (PNH) during this time including the development of a number of new treatments which have transformed many lives. Despite this, patients still face other continuing challenges, for example, dealing with fatigue and the psychological impact of living with a chronic disease. Importantly, patients also need their voices to be represented independent of healthcare professionals. As PNH Support can only continue to support the PNH community with the help of Trustees and volunteers, we are seeking new Trustees to become actively involved in our management and governance including the implementation of our recently developed 5 year strategy. Whether you are an experienced Trustee, or are considering your first appointment, wewould love to hear from you!

• Legal and Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring adherence to UK charity laws and fulfilling all reporting obligations.
• Financial Oversight: Monitoring the charity’s finances, safeguarding its assets, and managing risks effectively.
• Governance and Accountability: Promoting transparency, participating in decisionmaking, and overseeing management practices.
• Advocacy and Representation: Acting as an ambassador for the charity, promotingits mission and values to the wider community.

ScreenSkills launched its five-year strategy in Autumn 2024. To support the successful execution of that strategy, we are seeking new committee members who have a broad mix of industry experience to join the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee. The primary responsibilities of the committee are to provide ScreenSkills with critical oversight over the organisation’s financial health, internal controls and risk management. The Committee also offers council and insight on strategic, transformational, growth, legal, data and technology matters as required.

The committee members play a vital role in safeguarding the current and future financial health and integrity of ScreenSkills and in supporting the Board in meeting its fiduciary and legal responsibilities, thereby ensuring that the organisation can deliver its core purpose, vision and strategy. As a committee member, you will be responsible for providing independent oversight and direction to ensure strong financial stewardship, robust risk management, and effective governance of ScreenSkills. Finance, Audit and Risk Committee members have collective responsibility. This means that the committee members always act as a group and not as individuals.

We are looking for individuals willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role and can broaden the diversity of thinking on our Finance, Audit and Risk Committee. We therefore welcome applications from across the UK.

Main Responsibilities (collectively as part of the committee):

• Review the draft ScreenSkills Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and make recommendations to the Board.
• Review financial reports, budgets, management accounts and KPIs to ensure clarity, accuracy and accountability.
• Monitor performance against budget and targets
• Advise on reserves policy, approve investment and funding strategies in line with ScreenSkills objectives.
• Monitor and review the ScreenSkills risk register and advise on appropriate mitigation strategies to ensure an effective risk management approach.
• Ensure compliance with charity law, financial regulations and reporting obligations (e.g. Charity Commission).
• Liaise with auditors and review external audit findings and recommendations.
• Support and constructively challenge the ScreenSkills executive team in financial and risk-related decisions.
• Optional opportunity to support senior management on ad hoc projects linked to the execution of the strategy

Senior Leadership experience covering areas such as:

• Experience in finance, audit, legal, technology, accounting, or risk management, ideally within or alongside the non-profit/charity sector.

• A willingness to devote the time and effort to fulfil the committee member role.

• Ability to analyse detailed information whilst maintaining a clear view of the broader strategy.

Committee members will serve for a fixed tenure of three years. One further term may be served upon reappointment.

Our partner is a fast-growing charity that prepares young children in rural Ghana and Uganda for school, empowering marginalised mothers to run educational play schemes to improve children’s development and reduce malnutrition.

They are seeking a qualified accountant to join them as Treasurer and oversee all financial aspects of the charity. You will monitor cash flow, income, expenses, and strategic resource management, ensuring sound governance and compliance with charity regulations.

The Treasurer will chair the Finance and Audit Committee, oversee risk management, and guide the preparation of year-end accounts. You will also advise Trustees and help communicate financial information clearly to the Board.

The Board meets quarterly, with the Finance & Audit Committee meeting approximately 10 days beforehand, all online besides an annual in-person meeting in London. The total estimated time commitment required for the role is 1-3 hours per week.

Our governance

Our Board members are all passionate about changing young people’s lives through accessing Classics education. They are responsible for the strategy and good governance of the charity, working in partnership with the Chief Executive.

There are up currently nine members of our Board, including the Chair and Treasurer. Trustees serve a three-year term which can be renewed.

The Board meets for formal meetings, both in-person and virtually, four times a year. Along with other duties, whilst voluntary, this represents a sizeable time commitment and hard work.

Board committees

In addition to the Board, there is a Finance and Operations Committee who meet quarterly. There are some other operational committees that support different aspects of our work. The committees are small groups of Trustees and volunteers, who focus on particular areas of the charity in line with strategic developments and make recommendations.

Trustees will be encouraged to join a committee best suited to their skills on appointment to the Board. Each committee will be led by a Chairperson who is responsible for the overall running of their committee.

• Finance and Operations Committee: develops and delivers the financial strategy of the charity, including the budget, financial controls and fundraising strategy. It is also responsible for risk management.
• Remuneration Committee: has oversight of the pay process for staff.

• Nominations Committee: responsible for leading Trustee recruitment.
• Philanthropy Advisory Group: supports our fundraising through activating networks and sharing ideas to develop our income generation activities.
• Events Committee: supports the ideation and delivery of events supporting our charitable goals.

Responsibilities of a Trustee

The Board of Trustees is legally responsible for the charity – this is a significant responsibility and one that should not be taken lightly. Trustees have responsibility for ensuring the charity is well run, financially secure, and doing the work it is meant to be doing. There are specific legal and other duties. Trustees are volunteers; they are not paid. Reasonable expenses can, however, be reimbursed (e.g. to cover travel costs).

As a Trustee, you will be acting collectively as part of the Board of Trustees. Together, the Board is responsible for all of the points above.

Role Description

Trustees are expected to:

• set the vision, mission, values and objectives of the charity.
• develop the strategic direction of the charity; establish and monitor policies necessary for the proper governance of the charity’s activities.
• ensure that Classics for All operates in accordance with its governing documents, and is accountable to its regulators, funders, members and beneficiaries.
• maintain oversight of the management of the charity’s financial and other resources.
• support the Chief Executive.
• maintain oversight of risks faced by the charity.
• have regard for how the charity contributes to public benefit.
• appoint from its members representatives to other committees.
• ensure suitable representation of the charity to other bodies.
• promote Classics for All to external organisations, acting as spokespeople as necessary, and to review and develop partnerships with other organisations.
• to regularly appraise their own work, delegating responsibility to committees where necessary.

Skills

• We need a well-rounded Board with a diverse skill set. No one individual is expected to have experience in everything, therefore we are always on the lookout for individuals who bring a range of experiences and differing perspectives to the group.
• We are additionally interested in those who can bring experience from the legal world, digital transformation and marketing and communications.

Diversity and inclusion

As a social mobility charity, being inclusive is a fundamental value of Classics for All. We welcome applications from all eligible people and are particularly keen to receive applications from those who are from communities that are less represented within charity governance and Classics education. We are particularly interested in receiving applications from those who attended a UK state-maintained school, regardless of if Classics was offered at their own school. You do not need to be a Classicist to join our Board – there will be no Latin tests! 

Other requirements

There are just a few more requirements. We are seeking candidates who:

• will be aged 18+ on 1 September 2025.
• are allowed by law (both company law and charity law) to be a Trustee. This means that you must not be disqualified from being a Trustee or Director. Individuals are disqualified if:
  1. they have an unspent conviction for offences of dishonesty or deception (the same goes for attempting, aiding or abetting these offences);
  2. they are currently declared bankrupt or subject to bankruptcy restrictions or an interim order;
  3. they are subject to a debt relief order, a debt relief restrictions order or interim order;
  4. they have been disqualified from being a company director;
  5. they have unspent convictions for terrorism-related offences, money laundering or bribery;
  6. they have violated certain Commission orders relating to finances or property;
  7. they have committed misconduct in public office, perjury or perverted the course of justice;
  8. they have disobeyed an order or direction of the Commission on application to the High Court;
  9. they have committed civil contempt of court relating to false statements;
  10. they are a designated person for reasons linked to terrorist activity by the Treasury;
  11. Individuals who are subject to notification requirements under the Sexual Offences Act 2013
• are not subject to a disqualification Order under the Criminal Justice and Court Services Act 2000 or Protection of Vulnerable Adults List.
