Dive into lasting impact: Fundraise for East London Waterworks Park to create and shape natural swimming ponds, ecological habitats and community gardens

East London Waterworks Park is a volunteer-led charity that has won a 2024 New London Architecture award and raised £2m towards buying land from the Department for Education to transform the 14-acre Thames Water Depot on Lea Bridge Road on the border of Waltham Forest and Hackney, into a new biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces. 

Do you have experience organising events, or would you like to get some? Our past fundraising activities have included pub quizzes, a photography competition and exhibition, sale of locally made jeans and more. If you’re buzzing with ideas of how to raise money or are keen to get stuck in and help to make some events happen, we would love to hear from you.

The Fundraising Circle currently meets fortnightly on a Thursday evening on Google Meet and spends voluntary time outside of the meeting completing agreed tasks remotely. We understand that people may not have a lot of time to give, so we want to find volunteers who could give us one-off or ongoing strategic advice and support.

East London Waterworks Park is an exciting and ambitious project that offers many rewarding opportunities for our volunteers. You will have a significant impact on the creation of a new biodiverse community-owned park with free access natural swimming ponds and forest schools. 

By leading fundraising projects that explore how diverse professionals (architects, ecologists, web developers, community researchers etc.) collaborate to shape community infrastructure, volunteers will directly contribute to the development of a park that truly reflects the needs and desires of the local community. 

Without funding we won’t be able to make it happen. Your input will help us craft experiences that inspire, educate, and engage our service users, stakeholders, funders, and the general public, ultimately driving support for the park's mission and ensuring its long-term sustainability. So you will be directly contributing to the creation of a new biodiverse community-owned park with free access natural swimming ponds.

Role Description

Are you highly organised, tech-savvy, and detail-oriented? We’re looking for a reliable volunteer to support our Content Curator in auditing our extensive digital archive of over 3,000 lecture videos.

Time Commitment

Minimum 4 hours per week for at least two months.

Flexible working hours and remote working available.

Initial training period (first two weeks): must be available for half a day per week in our central London office.

What You’ll Be Doing

Your primary responsibility will be auditing our online video archive, including reviewing lecture web pages to ensure they contain all key assets:

• Video recordings
• Audio files
• Transcripts
• Lecture descriptions

This role involves repetitive tasks and requires accuracy, consistency, and mental stamina.

Following the audit, you may also help with:

• Writing short lecture descriptions where missing
• Sourcing or assigning appropriate imagery for lecture pages
• Other general content and data management tasks as needed

• Reliable and committed; able to meet deadlines and agreed hours
• Highly IT literate, with strong Excel skills
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy

Emerge Worldwide exists to protect children, young people, and women from sexual exploitation and sex trafficking. Through education, training, and advocacy, we equip communities, schools, and professionals with the knowledge and tools to prevent exploitation and safeguard the most vulnerable.

As an Education Team Volunteer, you will:

• Deliver training and awareness workshops in schools, youth groups, and community settings.

• Assist in designing engaging resources such as toolkits, handouts, and presentations.

We are seeking an Independent Committee Member to join our People Committee and help guide the charity’s work in creating a high-performing, compassionate and inclusive environment.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute your expertise to a respected organisation which is making a real difference across Wales. You’ll work alongside senior leaders, influence strategic decisions, and help uphold the charity’s commitment to excellence, safety, and integrity.

NB: This is a voluntary role with expenses covered in line with our policy. The initial term is three years, with the possibility of extension for a further 3 years.

What you will do

· Provide independent scrutiny, insight and support on people, culture and experience matters

· Support the delivery of the people experience strategy

· Shape people and organisational development work

· Uphold governance and champion the charity’s values

· Attend quarterly People Committee meetings (mostly remote)

· Contribute to wider strategic sessions as required.

What you will need to succeed

· Strategic experience in HR, workforce development, or organisational culture

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills

· Ability to offer objective, evidence-based insight and challenge

· Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, and continuous improvement

· Willingness to undertake relevant training (First Aid, Safeguarding, DBS)

St John Ambulance Cymru (SJAC) is an independent Priory within the Order of St John. We are a working Order of Chivalry of the British Crown with His Majesty the King as its Sovereign Head, which is accredited to the United Nations.

We are Wales’ leading first aid charity. Our new 2025-2030 Strategy has the mission of “Wales as a Community of Lifesavers”. In order to do this we have 4 strategic objectives:

We work closely with NHS Wales and the Welsh Ambulance Service University Trust (WASUT). We provide on-site first aid and medical services at events across Wales from local events in your community to international sporting and cultural events.  In order to do this we have around 2000 St John People, a mixture of employees and volunteers as well as around 800 Children and Young People.

The difference you will make to cats and people

As a charity we are able to help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations we receive from members of the public. Our fundraising team leaders have the exciting and varied role of inspiring our fundraising volunteers to plan and deliver local fundraising events. Using their passion and imagination, they oversee a small team of fundraising volunteers who come together to raise the vital funds needed to cover costs such as veterinary bills and food. Our fundraising team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

· supporting and encouraging a team of fundraising volunteers

· planning fundraising events and activities with your team

· allocating tasks before and during fundraising events

· keeping financial records from fundraising events

· encouraging and promoting a professional image of Cats Protection 

· following policies and guidelines and ensuring licences and permits are obtained for events

Time expectation

Our fundraising team leaders usually spend three to four hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.
