We’re looking for a motivated finance professional to join our Trustee Board as Treasurer, provide us with financial strategic direction and help us maintain our long-term sustainability
Working closely with our Chair and Chief Officer, your key responsibilities will include:
• Keeping the Board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities
• Guiding and advising the Board in the approval of budgets, accounts and financial statements
• Chairing the Board’s Finance Sub-Committee
• Reviewing the quarterly and year end accounts produced by our Administrator
• Presenting the year end accounts at the Annual General Meeting
• Ensuring that proper financial procedures and controls are in place to safeguard the charity’s resources
• Ensuring that the charity has appropriate reserves and investment policies
You don’t need to have been a trustee before, but you’ll need to:
• have recognised professional financial qualifications or experience
• ideally, have some knowledge or experience of charity finances
• be familiar with Quickbooks accounting systems and spreadsheets
• have the skills to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences
• be able to explain complex financial information in an accessible way
• be able to exercise good independent judgment and if necessary to make difficult recommendations
• work effectively as part of a team
• have the time and flexibility to respond to the demands of the charity
• be willing to learn about and follow the Citizens Advice aims, principles and policies, including confidentiality, equality and data protection
• represent Citizens Advice professionally at all times
Please note that while a large part of the role can be performed remotely, in-person attendance is expected for the board and trustee meetings.

Connect: North Korea works with North Korean escapees to recover, rebuild, and succeed. We were established in 2018 to address the complex challenges North Koreans face in building new lives once they’ve escaped the oppressive North Korean regime and reached safety in a free country.
We are seeking an experienced and ambitious trustee with the fundraising insight and strategic vision to help Connect: North Korea continue our growth from a small community start-up into a high-impact, sustainable international organisation. As we scale our programmes and deepen our impact, we’re looking for a trustee with a strong understanding of fundraising strategy, who can help shape our approach, promote our mission through their networks, and help us drive change for North Korean escapees.

JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Fundraising Trustee
LOCATION: Remote / 78 Coombe Road, New Malden, KT3 4QS
We usually hold board meetings online, but this is open to change.
COMMITMENT: 2 – 3 hours per month. We hold one annual away day we’d expect the board to attend.
Our Board meets every quarter for 2 hours. There is expected support between meetings. Our terms are capped at 3 years with potential for renewal for one additional term.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Contribute to good governance and strategic decision-making, ensuring the Board fulfils its responsibilities in line with our constitution, governance framework, and applicable legislation.

Provide strategic leadership on fundraising and income generation, helping to shape Connect: North Korea’s strategy and approach to sustainable growth.

Use your networks and influence to promote the charity’s mission, opening doors to potential donors, partners, and advocates.

Act as an ambassador and spokesperson for Connect: North Korea in relevant sectors and philanthropic circles.

Contribute to Board discussions on financial planning and sustainability, ensuring that fundraising targets and strategic objectives are aligned.

Talitha Arts is seeking volunteers to join the organisation as Trustees. We currently have five Trustees, with backgrounds encompassing human resources, finance, creative arts, coaching, and leadership. We are seeking trustees who would be interested in one or more of the following roles: Chair, Secretary, Equity Diversity and Inclusion, Fundraising and/or Safeguarding.
Our Trustees meet formally four times a year; twice in person in London, Bethnal Green, and twice by video-conference. This is a volunteer position, and all reasonable expenses, including accessibility needs, travel and childcare will be reimbursed.

Talitha Arts is creative arts charity that delivers therapeutic arts workshops that benefit the mental health and wellbeing of those who have experienced trauma (through trafficking, living with dementia, domestic and sexual abuse, homelessness) and/or are living with mental health problems, addiction or disability. We are a small team comprising our Artistic Director (Executive), Fundraiser, and Therapeutic Arts Programme Manager.

Duties

Responsibilities
• Trustees must have a good understanding of and be sympathetic with the aims and objects of the charity and act in accordance with the governing document at all times.
• Trustees must act and make decisions in the best interests of the charity, present and future beneficiaries.
• Where professional assistance is required for the Trustees to be able to make the most appropriate decision affecting the charity, that assistance should be sought and considered carefully.
• Trustees must not receive any financial or non-financial benefit that is not explicitly authorised by the governing document. Trustees should not exert any influence to garner any preferential treatment for themselves or their family.
• Trustees are jointly and severally liable for their decisions; therefore decisions should be taken together and communicated to staff, stakeholders and funders in a unified manner.
• Trustees are accountable to stakeholders for their actions and as such decision-making and governance issues should be as transparent as possible, except for when confidentiality is required.
• Trustees should be prepared to spend an appropriate amount of time reading papers and preparing for board meetings, which will be held on a quarterly basis. A minimum attendance of 75% meetings is required of Trustees to ensure that best practice in governance is reached and maintained.
• Should a Trustee feel that they require further guidance or training in their role, they have a duty to inform the charity secretary and actively develop aspects for new training on an individual or group basis.
• Any information of a confidential nature must remain so outside the confines of the Trustee meeting.
• Trustees should familiarise themselves with the ‘Nolan Principles’, and act in accordance with them.

Each Talitha Trustee will have:

Our Story
Talitha Arts was founded by actor, Amanda Root. It began as a small volunteer organisation, primarily offering mental health support by facilitating arts workshops for International Justice Mission in India and working with professionals in aftercare homes for girls rescued from trafficking and violent abuse.
Over the years, our work has expanded to respond to the needs of U.K. organisations working directly with those who have experienced trauma, abuse, violence, homelessness; ex-offenders, refugees, children, and those who are living with dementia.
Every year as part of our mandate, we train new practitioners in the Talitha Approach to deliver our workshops. Our approach is 'person-centred', meaning it is tailored to the individuals we serve. Our practitioners are both professional creative artists and registered therapists who are passionate about the Talitha Mission.
At Talitha, we aim to change the world one life at a time by providing mental health support through the power of the arts.
We do this by delivering programmes of workshops that support creative expression, foster community, and empower through music, movement, drama and the visual arts.

Our fantastic Chair’s tenure will be coming to an end in 2026, so we are looking to appoint her successor to help Student Minds improve university communities so that every student gets the mental health support they need to reach their goals.
At Student Minds, we’re working to improve university communities so that no student is held back by their mental health. So it should come as no surprise that we are keen to reflect the communities we serve, maintain a diverse board and ensure student voices are represented. This is key to our mission and our continued impact.
We are open-minded about the professional background of this individual and are mostly looking for someone with experience of leading effective, inclusive teams, of chairing complex organisations or meetings, and in building influential cross-sector partnerships.
Key responsibilities
Student Minds Chair is expected to commit to the following:

Preparation and attendance at four board meetings a year. Board meetings are held online and take place on weekdays from 5 - 7.30 pm.

Preparation and attendance at two in-person board away days each year, usually from 12.30 - 5 pm. These usually take place in Leeds and include a lunchtime or evening social.

Monthly supervision calls with the Chief Executive

Annual in-person appraisal of the Chief Executive

Support with board appraisals and recruitment

Ad-hoc meetings and conversations with the senior leadership team as required. This usually constitutes approximately a further five working days a year.
