We are looking for online English teachers to join our vibrant team!
HBC offers online English classes using Zoom on Wednesdays and Fridays 10am-1pm UK time. Classes run for about 45 minutes, offering L0- literacy, L1-Beginner, L2- Elementary and L3- Intermediate. We also do some one-one literacy tutoring. The classes start on the hour. Some of our teachers teach multiple classes and some only teach one depending on their availability. As an online English teacher, your responsibilities will include preparing and delivering lessons to improve students' reading, writing, and speaking skills.

About CARAS:
Community Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (CARAS) is a charity that supports refugees and people seeking asylum who live in south London, helping them to play their full part in the community. We offer a range of individual and group support to improve the holistic wellbeing of people who have a background of forced migration, providing them with tools to build lives filled with value, meaning and purpose in the UK. About the CARAS ESOL Team:
COVID has posed unprecedented challenges to refugees and people seeking asylum in London. Many of those we meet have arrived alone in the UK and have been living in contingency accommodation for many months. Our ESOL team offer English language classes to adults at a wide range of levels. This provides vital skills, opportunities and social contact and is crucial for enabling people to attend college and access other services in the future.
About the Role:
CARAS is looking for volunteer ESOL Teaching Assistants to support our online Zoom classes on Tuesday mornings:
Entry 1 class: 10 to 11.30am
Entry 2 class: 11.30am to 1pm (plus a 15-minute debrief)

As a volunteer ESOL Teaching Assistant your role is flexible and varied. It will involve supporting the Adult ESOL Teacher in the delivery of online Zoom classes, as well as providing learners with one-to-one or small-group support.
Volunteer tasks and responsibilities:
Providing learners with one-to-one or small group support within ESOL classes;
Helping learners build confidence in digital literacy;
Attending and contributing to volunteer debriefs after each session;
Helping create “learner portraits” to understand their strengths and areas of interest;
Making use of any community languages you may know to help students during the class;
Working collaboratively as a team and helping to shape the project;
Supporting people to develop their knowledge and skills, encouraging and inspiring participants to reach their full potential;

Requirements:
Essential:
To be 18 years or older;
An interest in education and English language teaching;
To be non-judgemental and able to engage with people from diverse cultural backgrounds;
To be reliable and punctual;
Excellent communication skills, especially with people with varying levels of English;
The ability to volunteer on Tuesday mornings during Wandsworth term time for a minimum of three months;
Currently resident in the UK;
Able to provide five years’ worth of addresses, and willing to undergo a DBS check;
Able to attend compulsory volunteer induction training (online) general and safeguarding prior to start of role
Desirable:
Knowledge of community languages, such as (including Arabic, Tigrinya, Amharic, Pashto, Dari, Farsi, Kurdish, Somali and Spanish).

The Afghanistan and Central Asian Association (ACAA) is looking for enthusiastic volunteer ESOL teachers to support refugees and asylum seekers for its Liverpool office.
Who we are:
The Afghanistan and Central Asian Association (ACAA)is a charity founded by Dr Nooralhaq Nasimi, who arrived as a refugee with his young family in 1999. We promote social and economic integration of an increasing number of Afghan, Ukrainian and other refugees. We use a community development ethos to support the development of their potential within a mutually supportive framework, and we work with a wide range of partners to reach vulnerable and isolated individuals and families in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the UK. We also offer online lessons to our beneficiaries located in Afghanistan and Iran to improve their English and employability skills.
Our experience and the quality of our provision is evidenced through our many achievements, including:
- Queen's Award for Voluntary Service 2018, awarded in recognition of the excellent work and central role that volunteers play in the delivery of the essential services run by the ACAA

Role Summary:
Working as part of a small dynamic ESOL teaching team, responsibility for lesson planning and delivery will be shared between yourself and more experienced teachers. Classes are in-person on two days of the week (Thursday and Friday).

About Onja
Onja is a social enterprise training underprivileged youth into world-class software developers.
We find the brightest students in Madagascar who can’t afford to continue their education, and train them in English language and software development. After just two-and-a-half years they are ready to work as remote front-end software developers in international tech teams.
Once in a job, our developers earn a good salary that helps them support their families and pay forward the opportunity to a new wave of students. They unlock exciting careers that fulfil their potential, and accelerate the development of their nation (see ‘How Onja Works’ below).
Our first cohort, ‘Wave 1’, consists of nineteen talented and committed graduates who are now working remotely for our partner companies in Europe and the US. With this immensely successful first cohort, and a proven social model, our goal is now to scale our impact: we aim to take on 360 new students over the next four years.
About the Role
In 2019, we developed and delivered a full-time course that allowed twenty students to progress from absolute beginners to upper intermediate speakers (B2 level) in just one year, with some students even reaching an advanced (C1) level. Our first cohort contained 19 developers and we plan to train hundreds of students in the coming years. Our challenge now is to scale our organisation, bringing opportunities to hundreds, moving to thousands of students. Your mission as our English Course Designer is to rebuild this course, from the ground up, into a highly scalable online-style programme.
Your responsibilities include:
- Creating engaging video lectures, learning activities and course content to build on an existing course.
- Create supporting material/media (audio, video, simulations, role plays, games etc)
- Collaborate with existing Onja teachers, incorporating their specific experience into your course design.
- Applying tested instructional design theories, practice and methods
- Decide on the criteria used to assess learners’ performance and develop assessment instruments.
- Maintain project documentation and course folders.
This is a pivotal role for Onja at this exciting time. We are poised to grow fast and our dream is to train thousands of new students each year. You will be setting the foundations not just for this first cohort but the waves of youth that will follow in future years.

- A twelve-month commitment is preferred.
- Instructional design experience as well as teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) experience is preferred however a willingness to learn and grow in the role is most important to us.

Team Up is looking for dynamic volunteer tutors to help transform the life chances of underachieving pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds.
About Team Up
Team Up tutor disadvantaged children in Maths and English to double their progress, help them gain confidence and improve their future prospects. We do this with the help of inspirational volunteer tutors, alongside a team of qualified professionals.
We partner with schools across London to deliver our 10-12 week tuition programme during the Autumn, Spring and Summer school terms. Tutors receive training and ongoing support from their programme manager throughout the programme. Our programma managers attend each session with the volunteers and liaise with the partner to ensure the programme runs smoothly.
About the role
You will be matched to a small number of pupils and we will supply you with training and materials to deliver engaging tuition sessions. Your tutor group will consist of up to four pupils of a similar level who are currently underperforming and provide them with the academic support and encouragement they need to get back on track.

A growing number of parents and guardians are paying for children as young as four to receive additional tuition. Research show that unlike their well-off peers, many children from lower income families are unable to afford the cost of private tuition which averages £25 per hour in London. This exacerbates education inequalities and contributes to widening the attainment gap.

About the opportunity
We are on the lookout for ten motivated Volunteer Recruitment Officers to join our team. This is an unpaid and voluntary role. In this shared role, each officer will work closely together to develop and implement a comprehensive plan to recruit volunteer tutors. The goal is to recruit and retain a pool of at least 200 retired teachers who can dedicate 4 hours to one-on-one and small group tutoring in English, Maths, Science, and/or French for children and young people aged 5-18. These tutorials will be conducted both in person (in Southwark schools) and online. The professionals will be responsible for recruiting, training, supporting, and retaining volunteer tutors to help reduce the education gap and raise the aspirations of underprivileged children and young people.
Detailed Tasks:
1. Volunteer Tutor Recruitment Strategy Document (Candidates 1 & 2):
Candidate 1: Strategy Development
· Collaborate with the charity Director to write a robust volunteer tutor recruitment strategy document.
· Discuss and refine the strategy document with Candidate 2.
Candidate 2: Recruitment Process
· Execute the recruitment strategy developed by Candidate 1.
· Manage all stages of the recruitment process for volunteer tutors, including advertising, screening, interviewing, and onboarding.
2. Training and Development (Candidates 3 & 4):
Candidate 3: Training Design
· Design a training programme for volunteer tutors.
· Collaborate with Candidate 4 to align the training programme with the recruitment strategy and volunteer management system.
Candidate 4: Training Delivery & Development
· Deliver the training programme designed by Candidate 3.
· Develop a system to track volunteer progress and collect feedback on the training programme.
3. Volunteer Management (Candidates 5 & 6):
Candidate 5: Volunteer Support
· Establish effective processes for volunteer management.
· Offer guidance and support to volunteer tutors, addressing any questions or issues that arise.
Candidate 6: Coordination & Updating Systems
· Track and record tutorial attendance and ensure that both students and volunteer tutors attend the sessions.
· Liaise with parents/guardians, school teachers and volunteer tutors as and when required to facilitate tutorials (i.e. provide support around rescheduling missed tutorials, tutorial scheduling issues, payment queries, refunds, lateness, re-sharing video conferencing links, sending reminders about tutorial sessions etc)
· Regularly review and update the volunteer management database to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.

Volunteer Tutor Recruitment Timeline
The recruitment process for volunteer tutors will commence immediately upon the start of the shared role. The goal is to recruit a pool of at least 200 retired teachers within a timeframe of 6 months. However, the timeline may be subject to adjustments based on the availability and suitability of volunteer tutors.
Work Schedule
This is an unpaid and voluntary role. Each candidate should not work more than 20 hours per week, but there is flexibility to accommodate the needs and schedules of team members.
Qualifications
· Relevant experience in volunteer recruitment or a similar role.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to work well as part of a team and independently.

What we do
Citizens Advice Runnymede & Spelthorne (CARS) provides valuable advice to over 6,000 people a year, helping them with issues such as housing, debt, benefits, employment and family. CARS is a local charity at the heart of our community. We are a team of around 50 employees and volunteers funded solely by grants and donations, and we are a member of the national Citizens Advice.
What a Trustee does
As a Trustee you will make sure that the charity is well run and help develop new ways to improve the charity’s services.
Who we are looking for
Above all we are looking for volunteers who are keen to help and have time to commit.
It may also help if…
You have had experience of or know someone who has used our services or those of a similar organisation and have an insight into the needs of marginalised groups and those who need help and advice.
We are also looking to bolster our fund-raising efforts and would like to hear from you if you have any knowledge or ideas in this area. This could be helping by using your contacts, preparing funding bids or raising donations from private or corporate donors.
As a new Trustee you will benefit from:

There are 5 Board meetings per year held in Addlestone, Surrey. They currently take place on a Monday, from 5.30 to 8.00 p.m. which can be attended in person or joined online. As a small charity, Trustees will have the opportunity to be involved in supporting the charity beyond Board meetings.

Kids in Museums is looking for people who are passionate about improving access to culture for children, young people and families to join our Board of Trustees.
As a Trustee, you can help shape our mission to change the museum and heritage sector to make it better for all children, young people and families, particularly those who currently have the least access. You’ll be joining a dedicated Board that brings a wide range of skills and experiences to the charity and have the chance to become involved with exciting Kids in Museums programmes such as the Family Friendly Museum Award and Takeover Day.
Our Trustees have the opportunity to
- Learn new transferable skills such as strategic planning and risk management.
- Join new professional networks in the museum sector and beyond.
- Give something back by improving access to the museum and heritage sector.
All Trustees receive a free package of training and support to help them settle into their roles. All expenses are covered by Kids in Museums.
We are also looking for candidates who have:
- An interest in Kids in Museums’ mission to improve access to museums and heritage for families, children and young people.
- An analytical approach to decision-making.
- An ability to communicate clearly and engage with a range of different stakeholders, staff and volunteers.
- A set of skills to enable them to handle challenging situations. This could include offering advice under time pressure if the charity was facing a reputational challenge. Alternatively, it could be providing support and advice on a staff disciplinary process.
- An ability to give feedback to staff, volunteers and other Trustees kindly and constructively.
- A strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
- A willingness to participate in the charity’s income generation work. This could include representing Kids in Museums at networking events, making introductions to potential supporters or reviewing funding applications.
