Came to Believe Recovery UK (CTBR UK) is a not-for-profit organisation helping people break free from addiction through immersive residential retreats and online support. We’re looking for new trustees to join our team and help us build our organisation and reach.

Who We Are

CTBR UK runs non-clinical retreats and meetings for people recovering from all forms of addiction. Our programme is built around the 12 Steps and spiritual principles, delivered in a supportive, welcoming and down-to-earth way, where all are welcome regardless of beliefs or faith.

We’ve supported hundreds of people on their journey toward  freedom — and we’re just getting started.

We’re currently preparing to register as a  charity, with big plans to:

• Grow our support across England and Wales
• Build long-term sustainability through funding and partnerships
• Strengthen our governance and accountability as we scale
• Keep our retreats open, accessible, and inclusive for all

Who We’re Looking For

You don’t need to have been a trustee before – although prior experience is welcome. We're especially interested in people with skills in any of the following areas:

• Business, operations or charity leadership
• Finance or bookkeeping
• Fundraising, bid writing or donor development
• Legal expertise (especially charity or contract law)
• HR or volunteer coordination

If you're organised, thoughtful, and comfortable working as part of a small remote team, you'll fit right in. We're also keen to hear from people who have worked in community support, health and wellbeing, or have experience working with vulnerable adults in third-sector projects.

What You’ll Do as a Trustee

As a trustee, you’ll help guide the direction of CTBR UK as we continue to grow. You’ll:

• Help shape our future plans, activities and strategy
• Offer support and oversight to ensure we stay on track and legally compliant
• Use your skills and voice to improve what we do
• Work alongside our small, motivated, and friendly team

We meet a minimum of quarterly online and keep in touch where appropriate between meetings. There’s no fundraising requirement or large time commitment.

Our vision is enabling university students to live God-centred lives, so we teach structured, engaging and transformative face-to-face foundational Islamic education to over 2,000 students across the UK, Canada, Australia & USA.

Role Summary

To bring our vision to life, you will play a pivotal role in developing and executing our social

media strategy. You will be responsible for creating engaging and meaningful content that

resonates with our audience, promotes our educational programs, and nurtures our

community’s spiritual development.

Key tasks

• Social Media Strategy: Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy

aligned with Roots Academy’s mission and goals.

• Content Creation: Create compelling and informative social media content, including

posts, videos, graphics, and stories, that reflects our values and engages our target audience.

• Community Engagement: Build and nurture a vibrant online community by responding to comments, messages, and inquiries in a timely and respectful manner.

• Content Calendar: Maintain a content calendar to ensure a consistent posting schedule and to plan for special events, holidays, and campaigns.

• Audience Growth: Implement strategies to increase our social media following and engagement, including the use of hashtags, collaborations, and promotions.

• Analytics and Reporting: Monitor social media metrics, track campaign performance, and provide regular reports with insights and recommendations for improvement.

• Brand Consistency: Ensure that all social media content adheres to Roots Academy’s branding guidelines and reflects our core values.

• Collaboration: Work closely with other teams to align social media efforts with broader organisational objectives.

What we’re looking for

• Strong understanding of Islamic values and the ability to communicate and promote them effectively.

• Proven experience in social media management, preferably in an educational or nonprofit context.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Proficiency in social media management tools and platforms.

• Creative thinking and the ability to develop engaging content.

• Strong analytical skills for tracking and evaluating social media performance.

• Understanding of social media advertising and paid promotion.

• Community management experience with the ability to maintain a positive and respectful online environment.

• Graphic Design Software - Basic knowledge of graphic design software like Canva, and Adobe Creative Suite for creating or editing marketing materials.

We are The Climate Crisis Advisory Group (“CCAG”) - a mission-driven, science-based climate change organization seeking new Board members to strengthen our impact. CCAG is the operating name of Climate Response Limited (“CRL”) a UK company registered with the Charities Commission. You would be a Board member for CRL as the company under which the CCAG brand operates.

CCAG is at the forefront of the climate conversation, guiding public, governmental, and institutional understanding of the crisis. CCAG’s global experts distil complex science into actionable insights, fostering informed decisions that help educate and influence audiences around the world.

What we’re looking for

Our current Board brings deep expertise in leadership, finance, and strategic direction. Now, we’re looking to complement this with specific skills and lived experience—particularly from those who can help amplify our voice, reach new audiences, and deepen our global relevance.

This is a great opportunity for first-time Board members.

We’re especially interested in candidates with experience or skills in:

• Global advocacy in climate or social justice

• Strategic communications or public affairs 

• Fundraising for NGOs, especially from philanthropic donors

• Digital communications, media, and content creation

• Campaigning and public influencing

• Marketing, branding, and public relations

• Experience of working within the Global South or working across cultures and disciplines.

You don’t need prior Board experience—just a commitment to science-based climate action and a willingness to contribute your time, skills, and perspective to help us tackle one of the greatest challenges of our time. 

This is an unremunerated voluntary Trustee role and, like all UK charity trustees, you’ll take on some important responsibilities for overseeing the charity’s work. But you won’t be doing it alone—you’ll be joining a supportive Board with experienced members who will guide you as you learn.

Finance Volunteer

Our partner is a highly respected professional membership organisation and charity working to shape fair and effective immigration and asylum law, supporting over 1,000 legal professionals and advocate for justice and human rights.

They are seeking a qualified accountant with strong financial oversight experience, with some charity sector experience, to serve as Treasurer. The post holder will have solid experience in financial management and governance, with the ability to communicate financial matters clearly, as well as a strong interest in social justice.

The Treasurer will monitor the organisation’s financial health, guide long-term planning, chair a funding decision panel, and ensure robust financial controls are in place. They will review budgets, management accounts, and annual reports, and act as a signatory for major transactions.

The Board meets eight times a year (for approximately 2 hours), and the funding panel meets six times annually. Most meetings are held online, with occasional in-person meetings in London. The total estimated time commitment required for the role is 1-3 hours per month.
