Operations volunteer roles
We currently have two vacancies on the Board and are looking for people, based in any location, who are passionate about the arts, share our ambition to broaden our audience, complement the skills and talents of existing board members, will work collaboratively, and can make a significant contribution to the future of the Wordsworth Trust. Even if you have no previous experience on the Board of a cultural organisation, we’d like to hear from you.
At the Wordsworth Trust, we recognise that to achieve our aims we need a range of skills, experience, backgrounds and viewpoints. We value diversity in our Board as this ensures that we have the best people doing the job, because they bring with them a rich tapestry of experience and creativity. We are keen to welcome people from backgrounds currently underrepresented on our Board, particularly people who have been minoritised due to their race and/or ethnicity, people from the LGBTQ+ community, disabled people, and people below the age of 45.

All successful applicants will be given a full induction and training prior to their first Board meeting.
We are interested in hearing from people from all sectors of the community, both those who are new to boards and those with a track record. Specifically, we are seeking applications from people with knowledge and experience of the following:

Time Commitment
Appointments are made for a term of three years. Board members may serve a maximum of three terms (i.e. 9 years in total).
Being a Trustee of the Wordsworth Trust is a voluntary position, but we will cover travel and other expenses. For those living further afield we appreciate that Grasmere is in a rural location and will arrange overnight accommodation and transport to and from the nearest railway station.
The Trustees hold four board meetings a year with two taking place at Wordsworth Grasmere and two being held online. The Grasmere meetings usually take place at weekends. It is possible to join in-person meetings online, although we hope that trustees can attend in person at least once a year.
Trustees are also encouraged to contribute to committee work and to fundraising activities. In addition to the above, Trustees will need to give time to study papers in advance of meetings.
Trustees are encouraged to attend Wordsworth Trust events in Grasmere and elsewhere but we recognise that our location may not make this possible on a regular basis.

Time commitment:
Our Trustees are committed and provide a valuable and positive contribution, building on our strengths and ensuring our results are sustained. There are currently 10 Trustees within the Charity who bring a wide range of skills, knowledge and experience to the organisation.
You will attend an average of 4 Board meetings and up to 4 Committee meetings a year, plus Trustee away-days & other events, such as AGM. Meetings are held during business hours and are a mixture of in-person and online. Events (including strategy days, conference and AGM) usually take place at our offices in Plymouth.

Rainbows Hospice for Children & Young People is based in Loughborough, Leicestershire, and is the only Hospice across the East Midlands that delivers a comprehensive range of support services, nursing and care for babies, children and young people with life threatening and life limiting conditions and their families.
As a Trustee for Rainbows Hospice your commitment will make a direct difference to the families they support. The work involved in being a Trustee can be demanding but is also immensely rewarding, providing both expected and unexpected opportunities for personal development. You will be joining a multi-skilled and talented Board of Trustees, currently twelve, who have a collective responsibility to govern their work.
The rewards of working with, and learning from, people of different backgrounds and skills will be great. You will help plan and fulfil their strategic future and make policy decisions to ensure they are accountable to the families, supporters, the Charity Commission and the public in general.
The team are looking for three Trustees to join them and have identified the following three skill areas of interest at this time;
Leadership
• Proven leadership experience aligned with organisational values and culture
• Collaborative, compassionate leadership style (non-hierarchical approach)
• Ability to inspire and bring people along
• Strategic oversight experience at board level
• Senior leadership role required (e.g., Director or CEO level)
Business/ Finance
• Strong understanding of charity finance to support the Director of Finance
• Broad commercial acumen beyond just retail
• Senior-level experience with a track record in innovation and growth
• Ability to contribute strategically to financial oversight and decision-making
Strategic Income Generation/ Retail
• Retail experience is essential and currently missing from the board (used to have a retail trustee on the board from Boots)
• Strategic income generation experience is desirable, though partly covered by the CEO
• Ability to challenge and support investment decisions to drive income
• Understanding of both operational and commercial aspects of retail
• Senior-level experience (e.g., Director of Retail at a large national charity like Cancer Research UK Senior Director

Beat is the UK’s eating disorder charity. The Role: Treasurer
The Treasurer will:

Monitor the financial administration of the charity and report regularly to the Board of Trustees on its financial health, in alignment with best practice, charity law, and Beat’s governing document.

Chair the Finance and Risk Committee, contributing to strategic development and strong governance as a trustee.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

Chartered Accountant status (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with professional experience in a business, social enterprise, or charitable setting.

Strong empathy for and commitment to Beat’s mission, bringing energy and determination to support its goals.

The ability to understand and contribute meaningfully to the organisation’s strategies and plans.

A willingness to engage actively and constructively in Board meetings and communications, understanding the importance of collective responsibility.

Leadership skills to chair the Finance and Risk Committee and support the full Board in fulfilling fiduciary duties.

Enthusiasm for supporting fundraising activities and the willingness to use personal networks to benefit the charity.
Additional desirable attributes include:

Expertise in financial strategy and planning.

Familiarity with relevant legislation and regulations, including the Charities Act 2011, tax law affecting charities, and Gift Aid.

Experience in producing and auditing statutory accounts.
