About us
Who we are
We can all face problems that seem complicated or intimidating. At Citizens Advice, we believe no one should have to face these problems without good quality, independent advice. Our network of charities offers confidential advice online, over the phone, and in person, for free. When we say we’re for everyone, we mean it. People rely on us because we’re independent and totally impartial.
No one else sees so many people with so many different kinds of problems, and that gives us a unique insight into the challenges people are facing today. With the right evidence, we can show big organisations – from companies right up to the government – how they can make things better for people.
That’s why we’re here: to give people the knowledge and the confidence they need to find their way forward – whoever they are, and whatever their problem.
Citizens Advice Bristol opened its doors for the very first time on 19th April 1977. Over the decades, the city of Bristol has grown and changed and we, in turn, have changed in response to the community we serve. This has meant that alongside our generalist service we have developed a number of specialist advice projects offering a higher level of casework support, such as the Macmillan project for people receiving treatment for cancer, or Ask us; a service for 16-25 year olds in crisis. To find out more about our projects and how to access them click here.
Though we have changed, the core of who we are has remained the same. That is we are a local charity for the local community. Volunteers are at the heart of all we do here. In fact, volunteers give their time to work in almost every aspect of our organisation from admin and advising to campaigning and research – without them there would be no us! If you’d like to join the team, then head on over to our volunteering page for more details.
Our culture and values
We’re inventive. We’re not afraid of trying new things and we learn by getting things wrong. We question every idea to make it better and we change when things aren’t working.
We’re generous. We work together, sharing knowledge and experience to solve problems. We tell it like it is and respect everyone.
We’re responsible. We do what we say we’ll do and keep our promises. We remember that we work for a charity and use our resources effectively.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
We are fully committed to stand up and speak up for those who face inequality and disadvantage. We want this to be reflected in the diversity of the people who work for us. It’s important to us that our team reflects the rich diversity of the communities that we serve.
We’re keen to receive applications from the LGBTQIA+ community, people with disabilities, health conditions or impairments and people who are from Black Asian Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities.
