Who we are

Our Room is an arts and social change charity supporting male, trans and non-binary people who sex work. Through a combination of diverse, engaging, challenging creative practice and professional support and advocacy we enable people to take control of their lives.

We use arts to enable people to make positive change and professional advocacy to support them while they make that change. Our work happens at the intersection of arts and social change.

We have over 20 years’ experience supporting marginalised people to be seen and heard. Our vision is that male, trans and non-binary people who sex work are empowered to live happier, healthier, more creative lives. We are the only organisation in the UK whose core mission is to support male, trans & non-binary sex workers.

We believe that everyone who sex works deserves dignity, respect and safety.

We began life as ‘The Blue Room’ and changed our name to ‘The Men’s Room’ in 2009. Over the years we have supported increasing numbers of trans and non-binary people and its increasingly clear that our old name no longer reflected who we worked with and who we are as an organisation. In November 2023 after a long consultation with our participants and partners we changed our name to Our Room.

We provide a friendly, non-judgemental space where people can get advice and support and get involved in our creative programme.

Our culture and values

Our support and advocacy team work with our participants to address immediate and long-term support needs, offering practical support, advice and advocacy on a huge range of issues including but not limited to, substance misuse, housing troubles, sexual health, mental health and emotional wellbeing. Our staff and volunteers are experienced professionals from the fields of social work, the arts and youth work. We work in partnership with agencies across Manchester.

We speak up and speak out on issues which are important to the people we work with. Our mission is to empower our service users through arts engagement to take control of their own lives.
