About us
Who we are
SFLIG Volunteers is a registered non-profit organization dedicated to establishing meaningful connections between passionate individuals looking to give back and communities in need of vital assistance.
Based in Ghana, we design and facilitate affordable, life-changing volunteer programs across healthcare, education, and community development sectors. Our mission is two-fold: to empower local people through sustainable support while offering international volunteers a deeply immersive and authentic experience of Ghanaian culture. Through collaborative teamwork, we strive to bridge resource gaps and foster impactful, long-term global partnerships.
Why Work With Us?
-
Real Grassroots Impact: You will work directly on the ground alongside local professionals, making a tangible difference where it is needed most.
-
A Supportive "Akwaaba" Family: From pre-departure prep to your time in Ghana, our close-knit local team ensures you are safe, guided, and fully supported.
-
Deep Cultural Immersion: We don’t just offer work; we offer an authentic journey into Ghanaian culture, traditions, and community life.
Our culture and values
At SFLIG Volunteers, our culture is built on a shared passion for community, connection, and cross-cultural learning. We believe that true sustainable development happens when global volunteers work side-by-side with local communities as equal partners.
We live by four core values that guide everything we do:
-
Akwaaba (Welcome & Inclusivity): Hospitality is at the heart of Ghanaian culture, and it is at the heart of ours. We cultivate an inclusive, warm, and supportive environment where volunteers from all walks of life feel safe, valued, and right at home from the moment they arrive.
-
Collaboration & Community: Like the interlocking pieces of our puzzle logo, we believe we are stronger together. We design our programs in direct collaboration with local leaders, doctors, and educators to ensure our volunteers support real, grassroots community needs.
-
Cultural Exchange & Respect: We value deep cultural immersion. Our programs are designed not just for volunteers to give back, but to listen, learn, and experience the rich traditions, language, and warmth of Ghana with mutual respect.
-
Affordability & Accessibility: We believe that the opportunity to change lives shouldn't be restricted by cost. We work hard to keep our programs highly affordable, ensuring that passionate individuals can make a real impact without financial barriers.
-
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
At SFLIG Volunteers, diversity is not just a policy—it is foundational to our mission of connecting global citizens with local communities. We are fully committed to fostering a culture of equity, fairness, and mutual respect, and we actively oppose all forms of discrimination across our entire organization, including our staff, local partners, and volunteer network.
Our Approach & Commitments
-
Fairness in Recruitment & Placement: We ensure that all employment, partnership, and volunteering opportunities are based purely on merit, capability, and a shared passion for community development. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, religion, or background.
-
An Inclusive "Akwaaba" Environment: In line with the traditional Ghanaian spirit of Akwaaba (welcome), we actively cultivate a safe, inclusive environment. We expect all members of our workforce and volunteer programs to treat one another with dignity, ensuring that everyone feels respected and empowered to contribute.
-
Zero Tolerance for Discrimination: We maintain a strict zero-tolerance policy toward any form of harassment, bullying, or discriminatory behavior. We provide clear, accessible channels for staff and volunteers to safely report any concerns, ensuring they are addressed swiftly, fairly, and confidentially.
-
Cross-Cultural Understanding: We bridge diverse global perspectives with local Ghanaian traditions. We support our workforce with cross-cultural guidance to ensure that our operations remain inclusive, culturally respectful, and equitable at every level.
Our Core Operations target vital grassroots resource gaps across Healthcare & Medical Outreach, Primary Education, Special Needs Rehabilitation, Creative Arts, and Women's Social Intervention Campaigns.
