About us
Who we are
The Birth Partner Project is a Mama*-led, Volunteer-run charity in Cardiff. We are currently a team of 3 staff and 47 volunteers, and we are looking to recruit 2 extra roles to our staff team.
We believe no-one should have to face birth alone, and our core service is providing Volunteer Birth Partners to anyone who would go through pregnancy, birth or early motherhood alone, we also provide a Community Drop-in for up to 1 year post-partum, and advice and donations to all who want them. We currently focus our support on people seeking sanctuary.
(*Mama is the term our service users co-produced for us to use when referencing them)
Our culture and values
We are:
- Mama-led: Mamas are the heart of what we do. We actively engage our Mamas in co-production towards our service delivery and design, as well as provding opportunities for feedback and input into our evaluations.
- Volunteer-run: We couldn't do what we do without our Volunteers. We actively engage our Volunteers in co-production towards our volunteering operations and strategy, as well as provding opportunities for feedback and input into our evaluations.
- Trauma-Informed: We are committed to ensuring our support is Trauma Informed. We provide training to all volunteers and staff. We recognise vicarious trauma and provide debriefs, supervision and wellbeing support towards this for our staff and volunteers.
- Inclusive & Anti-Racist: We are committed to being inclusive and anti-racist. We have a diverse team of staff and volunteers, and we welcome a diverse range of applicants for all our opportunities. We provide training as well as policies and guidance to all volunteers and staff.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
Our commitment to equal opportunities as outlined in our current EDI Policy:
-
We want everyone associated with our charity to have a fair and equal opportunity to achieve their very best in a safe working environment. We want everyone who works for us to understand the importance of this, and to act consistently with it at all times.
-
We will not tolerate discrimination or harassment in our charity, and we will never victimise anyone who makes a legitimate complaint to us about harassment or discrimination, or anyone who supports a colleague in their complaint.
-
TBPP's EDI Policy is underpinned by the following further commitments:
-
To create a working environment free from all forms of unlawful discrimination, including victimisation and harassment
-
To have a workplace capable of allowing everyone to achieve their potential, and where individuals are willing to give their best
-
To make sure that all staff understand their rights and responsibilities under this Policy ‒ if you are not sure what we consider acceptable and unacceptable, you should check with your line manager
-
To amend this Policy if we think it has become outdated, or circumstances suggest to us that it needs to be updated
-
To protect staff, wherever possible, from being victimised or treated less fairly if they make or support a complaint in good faith under this Policy
