Help Change the Future of Polycystic Kidney Disease Research
Patient & Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) Manager
PKD Charity
Remote (UK-based) | Part-time (22.5 hours / 3 days per week)
Salary: £33,000–£35,000 FTE pro rata (£19,800–£21,000 actual)
The PKD Charity is looking for an exceptional communicator and relationship-builder to lead patient involvement in groundbreaking PKD research.
This is not a standard engagement role.
You will help ensure that the voices, experiences and priorities of people living with polycystic kidney disease directly influence research, clinical studies and future healthcare decisions across the UK.
PKD affects around 70,000 people in the UK. It causes kidney failure, lifelong health complications and reduced life expectancy. There is currently no cure.
We believe research is stronger when patients are genuinely heard — not consulted as an afterthought.

The Opportunity
As our Patient & Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) Manager, you’ll lead and shape involvement activity through the PKD Research Hub, working alongside patients, researchers, clinicians and partners to make research more inclusive, meaningful and impactful.
You’ll:
- Lead and support our Patient Involvement Panel
- Facilitate high-quality patient engagement and focus groups
- Work directly with researchers and industry partners
- Champion authentic lived experience in research decision-making
- Support awareness of clinical studies and research opportunities
- Create compelling patient stories and engagement content
- Help influence the future direction of PKD research in the UK
We’re Looking For Someone Who:
- Understands the power of meaningful patient involvement
- Can confidently manage relationships with patients, researchers and stakeholders
- Has experience in PPIE, health research, healthcare or the charity sector
- Is an excellent facilitator and communicator
- Brings empathy, professionalism and initiative
- Wants to make a tangible difference every single day
Experience in rare disease, kidney health or long-term conditions is welcomed but not essential.

The role: Family Support Worker (Bereavement)
As a Family Support Worker at Addiction Family Support, you will be responsible for delivering a range of services to provide crucial emotional and practical assistance to individuals bereaved (and affected) by the loss of a loved one due to addiction. Through both individual and group support, you will offer a compassionate and understanding presence, helping people navigate grief and loss in a safe and supportive environment.
Our service delivery takes place via several methods, including taking calls on our telephone Helpline, responding to emails through our email service and delivering remote 5-Step Method informed intervention to individuals and groups via an online platform.
Working patterns are flexible and you may be expected to work on a rota basis, and we would hope to be able to offer more hours per week in time when funding allows it.
You will need to be confident in your ability to provide support via a variety of remote and digital platforms, being able to respond to immediate requests for support. You will be an active and involved member of our team and contribute to all aspects of our work to help us achieve our strategic goals and work towards achieving our vision.
Responsibilities:
- Offer empathetic and non-judgmental structured emotional and practical support to those affected by the bereavement of a loved one due to addiction (via a Helpline and 5-Step Method informed one to one and group support).
- Provide or signpost information, literature, and resources to help individuals and groups manage grief and cope with their situations.
- Facilitate or co-facilitate bereavement support group meetings, creating a safe space for participants to share their experiences and provide mutual support.
- Follow guidelines and safeguarding practices - ensuring safeguarding concerns are addressed promptly and signpost individuals to additional services where appropriate.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records in line with GDPR and the charity’s policies.
Ongoing support
As a Family Support Worker (Bereavement), you will have access to regular supervision and peer support, ensuring you feel confident and equipped in your role. Development opportunities are available to help you grow in your position and enhance the support you provide.

Job Description
Philanthropy will play a defining role in delivering this ambition. With plans to significantly scale income over the coming years, we are seeking a senior, commercially-minded Philanthropy Lead to drive high-value growth and deepen engagement with influential supporters across Northern Ireland
As Philanthropy Lead, you will take ownership of a high-value donor portfolio, securing and stewarding five and six figure gifts while driving forward a donor-centric fundraising strategy.
You will operate as a trusted partner to senior leaders and influential stakeholders, leveraging networks, insight and opportunity to build a sustainable pipeline of philanthropic support.
Alongside income generation, you will play a key role in shaping how Marie Curie engages high-net-worth individuals bringing innovation, credibility and strategic thinking to a growing function.
What you’ll be doing
- Building a pipeline of new high-net-worth individuals through proactive outreach, networking and relationship building
- Owning and driving your own workload, managing your prospect pipeline and identifying new opportunities
- Initiating conversations, arranging face-to-face meetings and creating bespoke cultivation journeys
- Working closely with senior leaders and volunteers to develop and progress donor relationships
- Developing compelling propositions and confidently making five and six-figure asks
- Using creativity, curiosity and insight to spot opportunities others might miss
- Representing Marie Curie externally and helping grow our profile with influential audiences
Who we’re looking for
- Proven experience in major donor or philanthropy fundraising
- A proven record of securing significant philanthropic income, including five and six figure gifts
- The credibility and presence to engage and influence high-net-worth individuals and senior stakeholders
- Strong commercial judgement combined with a donor-centric, relationship-led approach
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling cases for support and lead high-value conversations
- Strategic thinking, resilience and the ability to navigate complexity and ambiguity
- A collaborative mindset, with the confidence to contribute across a high-performing national team
You don’t need to come from a traditional charity major gifts background transferable experience from relationship-led, high-value environments is welcome.
