Job overview
The role will focus on growing the value of funding from large trusts and foundations globally, as well as from corporate foundations and institutional funders via consortium partnerships with larger conservation actors.
The role will oversee grant and contract management with existing organisational and institutional partnerships, as well as grow this portfolio through developing a robust pipeline of new opportunities, finding creative ways to secure visibility and first meetings, developing relationships, compelling funding applications and ensuring strong contract management oversight.
The role will lead a team of two, work collaboratively with fundraising colleagues based in the US and UK to secure visibility with and develop strong long-term partnerships with new Trusts and Foundations; and work closely with colleagues in Kenya to ensure strong project delivery and grant management. Responsibilities include:
- Lead the implementation of the Trusts & Foundations (T&Fs) programme with a particular focus on growing the portfolio of large T&Fs in the USA, UK and European markets;
- Work with fundraising colleagues across priority markets and with communications colleagues, using innovative and proactive approaches to business development and relationship building to unlock visibility opportunities and develop relationships with new prospects; in order to develop and maintain a strong pipeline of high-value funding opportunities.
- Continue to oversee the current ‘programme funding’ portfolio which includes existing institutional funding partnerships and corporate foundation relationships in Kenya, ensuring that ongoing and new opportunities where they exist are capitalised on.
- Collaborate closely with and provide technical expertise to Ol Pejeta’s Project Implementation function in Kenya to develop and embed ‘programme funding’ systems, policies, processes, to ensure that the organisation works to the highest standards in grant management;
- Oversee collaboration and co-working with Ol Pejeta’s Programme teams and other colleagues to ensure high quality project design content is translated into technical proposals and budgets for donors;
- Work closely with Kenya’s implementation function to support strong project delivery and contract management.
- As a Head of, actively contribute to team and department objectives through decision making and action on planning, budgeting, monitoring and reporting.
Key Activities
- Support the Chief Fundraising Officer with overall strategy development, implementation and adaptation;
- Work closely with the Chief Fundraising Officer to ensure operational and budget planning, management and reporting of resources;
- Oversee the T&F team’s operational planning processes, annual reporting and core performance monitoring;
- Strategic coordination of multiple stakeholders in proposal development processes (programme experts, internal stakeholders, partners and donors);
- Build strong relationships across all departments of the organisation and with existing and new partners;
- Support the recruitment process/selection/appointment of fundraising staff across the department.
Strategic leadership delivery and management of Trusts and Foundations priority in the global fundraising strategy.
- Develop and implement tactics for T&Fs that support Ol Pejeta to meet its overall strategic objectives;
- Ensure that the relevant parts of the Fundraising strategy, planning and practice is adaptive to both internal and external changes and that the team adopts innovative approaches to its work;
- Effectively integrate T&F team objectives and outcomes into wider Ol Pejeta income targets and programme priorities.
Business development and management
- Proactively cultivate relationships with key prospects, donors and partners (with particular focus on US, UK and European markets);
- Network both internally and externally to ensure relevant stakeholder participation and intelligence gathering in various fora;
- Lead and coordinate proposal development, including budgeting, with programme teams and finance;
- Collaborate with Ol Pejeta’s communications and marketing department to ensure communication activities appeal to donor interests, promote our partnerships and help to position Ol Pejeta as a partner of choice;
- Research and share trends and intelligence on T&Fs, and develop relationships that strategically position the organisation to mobilise resources from new and existing donors.
Support effective grant & risk management and compliance
- Support the development and implementation of improved business policies to facilitate improved management of and accountability for T&F funding and other larger institutional partnerships;
- Provide quality assurance and technical backstopping on reporting and general compliance, in line with organisational and donor requirements;
- Guide the negotiation of strategic grants/contracts to ensure the organisation signs up to appropriate contractual requirements;
- Advise on the interpretation and application of donor rules, regulations, processes and procedures;
- Provide guidance and capacity building on grant cycle management to colleagues across the organisation.
People Management, Financial Management and Departmental contributions
- Provide inductions to staff across the organisation on T&Fs and institutional funding opportunity;
- Build, motivate and effectively collaborate with teams remotely;
- Conduct probationary reviews and annual performance management reviews for direct line management staff;
- Support the Chief Fundraising Officer to have oversight of the team budget lines;
- Work collaboratively with colleagues in the global fundraising team based in different geographical locations
- Contribute to overall departmental processes and initiatives;
- Act within the parameters set by the organisation on financial policies and procedures.
Capacity Building and Knowledge Management
- Ensure effective cross-functional collaboration to strengthen fundraising and grant management skills across the organisation;
- Oversee the development and maintenance of information systems and tools for sharing donor policies and guidelines, funding opportunities and best practice across the organisation;
- Keep pace with international developments and engage with other INGOs to keep abreast of opportunities and global trends in T&F fundraising.
Education, Language & Qualifications
- Bachelors or equivalent in a relevant field preferably Fundraising / International Development;
- Excellent verbal and written communication with fluency in English;
- Language skills in Swahili and German advantageous.
Essential Knowledge, skills and Experience
- Relevant experience working in an international NGO or philanthropy environment with diverse workforce;
- Experience in Trusts & Foundation fundraising across international markets;
- Demonstrated experience cultivating and managing relationships with trusts and foundation donors (or others) to secure six figure grants;
- Substantial experience cultivating and managing donor and stakeholder relationships;
- Exceptional interpersonal, influencing and negotiation skills with demonstrable proactivity in business development;
- Strong technical proposal writing and budget skills;
- Strong ability to manage staff and influence team members remotely;
- Ability to manage and facilitate complex projects and processes;
- Experience working on the African continent with a deep knowledge of conservation and community development;
- Willingness to travel internationally as required;

DIRECTORATE PURPOSE
The Fundraising, Marketing and Communications directorate is responsible for:
• Income generation across trusts and foundations, corporates, major donors, community fundraising, public donations, and legacies, alongside relationships with commissioners and public sector funders.
• Partnership development, engaging businesses, philanthropists, trusts, and volunteers.
• Marketing of services and membership to families, adoptees, commissioners, and professionals in health, education, and social care.
• Awareness raising and thought leadership, ensuring adoption and permanence issues have a strong voice nationally.
Currently a team of six, the directorate has strong ambitions to grow in size and scope, with scope to re-imagine its structure to meet future needs.

As Director of Fundraising, Marketing & Communications you will:

As the Supporter Engagement & Legacy Manager you will play a key role as we seek to reignite our legacy marketing programme and grow overall individual giving income to help ensure long-term support for those facing financial difficulty. You will be responsible for the project management and implementation of all supporter engagement activity, acquisition, and legacy marketing activities, ensuring all activity is optimised and campaigns include enhanced digital and social media content.
Reporting to the Co-Heads of Supporter Engagement and managing the Supporter Engagement Officer, you will develop a multi-year plan to rebuild legacy income and a pipeline of legacy supporters, including re-engaging the EFH care home staff and major donors.
You will be responsible for supporting the strategic direction, operational plans and effective management of Turn2us’s giving programmes from individuals including appeals, regular giving and legacies, maximising net income from new and existing income streams.
The successful candidate will have experience of managing direct marketing campaigns in a charity environment as well as proven ability to manage successful legacy marketing campaigns. They will have significant experience stewarding individuals and legacy supporters and be adept at communicating the impact of donations, as well as having line management experience. The ability to make a strong case for supporting Turn2us’ key areas of work is crucial, as is an aptitude for proactively increasing acquisition and retention rates.
The post holder will also be a self-starter who is comfortable building new strategies from a relatively small pool of supporters and is experienced testing different tactics to establish the best practice for Turn2us.

The Foundation donates £6-7 million a year in operational grants and funds a diverse portfolio of charities in the UK and Israel. One of the Foundation’s Senior Grants Managers is going on maternity leave and so they are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Grants Manager to join their small, dynamic team.
The Senior Grants Manager will cover a diverse portfolio of charities across the Foundation’s key funding areas, with a focus on health (including mental health) and the UK Jewish community. You will be an excellent communicator with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely and the ability to think strategically, connecting the dots across a grantee’s organisational journey. You will have good relationship building skills and a high level of diplomacy and able to deliver in a fast-paced environment. You will be proficient in office software packages, including MS Office and Excel and confident working accurately with figures.

The role is based in a modern, vibrant office in Camden on the canal, with 4 days from the office / 1 day from home hybrid policy. Salary: £26,000 per year FTE, dependent on experience

The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for an organised and proactive individual to join a small, friendly, and dynamic team in a varied role. If you are looking to build your fundraising experience, develop new skills across multiple fundraising areas, and have your work make a tangible impact on people’s lives, this could be the perfect role for you.
You will work closely with the two Fundraising Managers (one focused on Trusts and Foundations and the other Corporate Partnerships) and the Development Director to support corporate, trust, foundation, and individual fundraising efforts. The role offers the opportunity to contribute across a broad range of fundraising activities and, depending on your interests and experience, take ownership of key tasks and projects.
Joining during a time of growth and strategic development, you will have the chance to be part of the implementation of a new Fundraising Strategy. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience in donor stewardship, event coordination, individual giving campaigns, and data management, all while contributing to the success of the Warm Welcome Campaign.
In the role you will:
Assist the team across the fundraising function supporting corporate, trust, foundation, community and individual fundraising activities.
Develop and maintain positive relationships internally with colleagues and externally with stakeholders, donors, and funders.
Demonstrate strong organisational skills and reliability, maintaining systems for data management and accurate records of fundraising activities and donor interactions.
Liaise professionally with Warm Welcome Spaces, funders and supporters, acting as a warm and approachable communicator.
Confidently use and manage our CRM system (Copper) to track donor data and fundraising activities.
Support basic marketing efforts, including creating quality written content such as emails and social media updates, as needed.
Securely store and organize documents on our G-Drive, ensuring accessibility for the team and compliance with GDPR and good fundraising practice.
Support the logistical planning for fundraising and wider team events.
Ensure deadlines are met, prioritising a varied workload and maintaining attention to detail in all tasks.
Take initiative to explore new areas of fundraising and contribute to innovation.
Own and manage delegated tasks or parts of projects, ensuring successful and timely delivery of work.
Essential Skills and Experience

About you

About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to join a newly formed Trusts and Foundations team, with a mission to raise funds for CARE International’s work globally to shift power and resources to women and local communities.
As part of the Partnerships & Philanthropy (P&P) team, you will form and nurture relationships with UK based Trusts and Foundations, securing five and six figure partnerships with small and medium sized organisations. You will manage your own portfolio of five and six figure UK based Trusts and Foundations, and support the Senior Trusts and Foundations Manager with large opportunities.
New business is a key part of this role, and you will have the exciting opportunity to research, identify and engage organisations that could be great prospects for CARE, as well as stewarding a small number of existing donors through creative, gold standard, relationship management.
You will work closely with the Senior Trusts and Foundations Manager, Head of Partnerships & Philanthropy, country and programmes colleagues globally, engaging leadership as needed to progress donor relationships.
