Job description

Passionate about engaging with the research community?

The Royal Society, the UK’s premier scientific body, is looking for an exceptional individual to manage its career development and engagement activities for researchers across disciplines and career stages.

The Royal Society is the independent scientific academy of the UK dedicated to promoting excellence in science. Our Grants team manage a range of fellowship and grants programmes which provide research funding for talented scientists in the UK and overseas. In addition, the Society provides a range of activities to support the development of the next generation of research leaders including opportunities for training, mentoring, peer to peer networking and engagement with the Royal Society.

We are now looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated candidate with excellent organisational and communication skills to lead our engagement with Royal Society research fellows. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing our research fellow engagement strategy in partnership with the Grants Senior Leadership Team, engaging with key stakeholders and delivering against the objectives set out in the engagement strategy.

This is an exciting role to support the work of exceptional scientists funded through the Society’s grant portfolio. The successful candidate will have a good understanding of the challenges faced by early career researchers and how the Royal Society can best support them.  You will be a key point of contact for Royal Society Research fellows and be expected to develop a good working knowledge of our funded researchers.

During COVID-19 our employees have been working mostly remotely, but we are now transitioning to a hybrid pattern of working in the office and remotely for some roles and will be happy to discuss working patterns with candidates. Candidates considering applying should note that working outside of the UK is not permitted as part of our flexible working approach and travel from home to the London office will be at their personal expense regardless of location. With a fantastic historic central London office near St James’ Park, we hope to find an inclusive working arrangement that suits candidates.
