Are you passionate about law, policy, and effective communications? Statewatch, a small team dedicated to promoting civil liberties and human rights through research, reporting and analysis, is seeking a motivated volunteer to assist in our efforts to make legal and political information accessible to all.
Terms
Time commitment: Approximately 2-3 hours per week, including a 1/2 hour check-in with the communications worker, for a 3-month period (with the possibility of extension).
Starting date: Immediately.
Compensation: This is an unpaid volunteer position.

About Statewatch
Statewatch produces and promotes critical research, policy analysis and investigative journalism to inform debates, movements and campaigns on civil liberties, human rights and democratic standards. We began operating in 1991 and are based in London.
Our vision: An open Europe of democracy, civil liberties, personal and political rights, free movement, freedom of information, equality and diversity.
Our mission: To monitor, analyse and expose state activity that threatens civil liberties, human rights and democratic standards in order to inform and enable a culture of diversity, debate and dissent.
About the position:
In this role, you will work closely with the communications specialist to conduct the following.

Archive review and cataloguing:
-
Review Statewatch's archive of work, including reports, articles, and publications.

Identify content with continued relevance based on ongoing policies or contemporary issues.

Catalogue relevant content by both topic/context and type of relevance (e.g., policy implications, historical insights).

Organise the catalogued content for easy reference and retrieval.

Social media messaging:
-
Draft ideas for social-ready messaging in various length by distilling relevant information from the catalogued content.

Assist with translating legal and political language into accessible and accurate information suitable for social media platforms.

Ensure messaging aligns with Statewatch's mission and messaging guidelines.

Language guide development:
-
Identify key terms and phrases commonly used in Statewatch's external messaging.
-
Research and provide guidance on the relevance and appropriateness of certain statements or terminology.

Assist with developing a language guide for discussing specific topics, including examples and explanations.
-
Collaborate with Statewatch team members to ensure consistency and accuracy in messaging.
Key results

Catalogued archive of relevant content, organised by topic/context and type of relevance.

Social media messaging templates and content suitable for various platforms.

Comprehensive language guide for discussing specific topics, including examples and explanations.
About you
We are looking for someone who:

Has an understanding of legal and political language, with an interest in translating complex concepts into accessible information.

Research and analytical skills.

Is proficient in written communications in the English language

Responsibilities:
Executive Director Assistance
▪ Provide direct support to Executive Director to ensure IWI meets organisational goals and targets;
▪ Ensure staff reports and assignments are submitted timely & completely;
▪ Day-to-day management of Executive Director’s meeting schedule;
▪ Liaise with potential partners and donors at a high-level on behalf of the Executive Director;
▪ Support Executive Director during preparation of presentations, media interviews;
▪ Keep the Executive Director in on key organisational issues with diplomacy and discretion.
Partner & Donor Management
▪ Assist with preparation of proposals and enquiries;
▪ Assist with preparation and management of contracts/agreements;
▪ Support with the coordination of pipeline and work-flow.
Requirements:
▪ Experience of working at Executive Assistant level with senior management;
▪ Ability to manage complex and highly confidential information;
▪ Comfortable working autonomously and across multiple tasks and reporting into different project working teams and staff members;
▪ Knowledge of advanced MS office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook;
▪ Excellent social skills, able to operate with diplomacy, tact and empathy;
▪ A high degree of personal organization and self-management;
▪ Comfortable with deadlines;
▪ Ability to think proactively and laterally to maximize opportunities to promote the work of IWI.

At TOP UK we know how distressing and overwhelming OCD and phobias can be. Nearly 40 years of experience tells us that both conditions have a hugely negative impact on people’s lives. Fear and anxiety are incredibly unpleasant emotions and to frequently experience these emotions on a large scale is traumatic and debilitating. No one deserves that.
At TOP UK we also know that OCD and phobias are poorly understood, under-funded and stigmatised despite affecting millions of people. OCD and phobia sufferers often tell us how misunderstanding of their conditions leaves them feeling isolated, alone and afraid to seek help. At TOP UK, we believe no one should feel alone in facing their fears
It is an exciting but testing time at TOP UK and we have just launched an ambitious three-year strategy. While we are eager to embark on this new stage of development for our organisation it comes with an acknowledgment that we are working in particularly uncertain and stressful times and there is a greater need to grow our service than ever before. Demand for our service is at an all-time high and continues to grow, currently dramatically outstripping our capacity. Mental health services are at breaking point leaving those with OCD and Phobias often finding it impossible to find help and dealing with debilitating conditions alone.
Meeting this demand will be a challenge, but it is a challenge we are ready and willing to push for but in order to grow and build our organisation we are keen to evolve, enhance and diversify our Board of Trustees
The role is open to those from the public, private and voluntary sectors. You should be someone with a genuine interest in mental health and we are ideally looking for individuals with any of the following experience: Charity Governance; IT & Digital;Marketing, Communications and Brand; Fundraising: Diversity and Inclusion.

All board meetings are virtual and take place every other month.
