Job description
Trust and Grants Officer

Contract: Permanent, full-time
Location: Edinburgh or London (with the option to work from home on some days)
Salary: up to £25,200 dependent on experience (with a salary weighting depending on your location)
Closing: Sunday 19th April 2020
Interviews: Wednesday 29th April 2020

We act because everyone relies on the ocean to survive - from the air we breathe to the food we eat. We have ambitious plans to drive political, cultural and social change for healthy seas and coasts that support abundant marine wildlife, sustain livelihoods and provide enjoyment for all.

To bring this change to life, we need to nurture and grow income from existing and new partnerships. If you’re a talented trusts and grants fundraiser with a proven ability to write persuasively, and you’re eager to apply your skills to marine conservation, then we’d love to hear from you.

This is a fitting role for someone with foundational fundraising skills, ideally gained in a not-for-profit setting.

Working within our Trusts & Grants team, you will expertly nurture important relationships with charitable trusts, foundations and grant funders and co-ordinate our core small trust and foundation fundraising programme.

In addition, you will develop high-quality and compelling applications to larger trusts and grants, packaging our marine conservation work across the UK as appropriate. You will also identify new trust and grant opportunities to support our growing pipeline, and will have the opportunity to contribute ideas to the trusts and grants fundraising strategy.

As a self-starter, you’ll be confident in your ability to take a proactive approach when managing a varied and busy workload.

Key Skills

- A minimum of two years of experience in successful fundraising from charitable trusts, foundations or similar in the charity sector (experience of developing and submitting Big Lottery/National Heritage Lottery Fund bids would be an advantage)
- Excellent written communication and grammar skills, with the ability to produce concise and persuasive applications
- The proven ability to understand the giving mechanics of charitable trusts and foundations
- Ideally, we are seeking a candidate with a proven track record of success with donors and experience of developing budgets for grant-funded projects
- The ability and confidence to represent MCS with prospects and donors, including through face-to-face presentation
