Job description


We are Diabetes UK and it's our mission to tackle diabetes, day in and day out, until it can do no harm. We want to continue to improve the quality and standards of diabetes care in Northern Ireland, so people get the care they need to live well and for longer. As we move out of the COVID restrictions we are looking forward to meeting with volunteers, groups, and other organisations again. As Volunteer Support Officer, you will play a key role in re-engaging with people face-to-face.

Main Responsibilities

As a Volunteer Support Officer you will play a key role in supporting Diabetes UK NI to re-engage people in face-to-face events and activities following the easing of COVID restrictions. You will have a genuine enthusiasm for encouraging and supporting people to volunteer and contribute to their community.

You will be the first point of contact for volunteers, groups and communities and support them to raise awareness about diabetes, support people to live well, and increase uptake of services. You will facilitate groups, activities, and training, both face-to-face and online, and you will be competent in using a range of tools and platforms.

You will be enthusiastic and resourceful with excellent communication and organisation skills. You will be committed to working in partnership and to collaborating with groups and organisations who will help us to reach and engage more people, including those who are seldom heard and may not be easily visible. Flexibility in working some evenings and weekends will be required, as well as an ability to travel to meet with groups and communities.

Ideal Candidate

As a Volunteer Support Officer, you will be confident in engaging and supporting people in a range of settings. You will have excellent communication skills with an ability to build and maintain relationships with people in a range of settings. You will be competent in facilitating groups and activities, both online and face to face, and will be proficient in using a range of tools and platforms including Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

You will be self-motivated with an ability to work well under pressure and prioritise workload, knowing when to escalate appropriately.

You will have an ability to work independently, using your own initiative. And you will be a positive influence within the team, proactively contributing to discussions and plans, and supporting colleagues.
