Job description

We are seeking a Coordinator Team Leader to join our committed team. We are looking for someone with experience of and commitment to working in a multi-cultural environment. You will have experience of planning and delivering courses, workshops and group sessions and supporting and developing volunteers. As well as your own caseload of clients and volunteers you will work with the team to ensure we achieve our funded commitments and the team are well supported. The person we are looking for will be able to work flexibly and on their own initiative, but also have strong communication and team-working skills. This work includes assessing the needs of female clients through visits to their homes. It is therefore an occupational requirement of this role that the post holder is female*.

*This is in accordance with the provisions of the 2010 Equality Act (Schedule 9, Part 1, Paragraph 1).

Learn English at Home has been working for 39 years with people whose first language is not English to communicate independently in the areas of health and wellbeing, education and at work. LEAH particularly supports people who are unable to access college as they may have caring responsibilities, children at home and who have additional needs, have been trafficked and experienced violence and who may have mental and/or physical ill health, low confidence or illiteracy in their first language. Having limited English can impact access to vital services, including housing, education, healthcare and finding sustainable work. We empower people to become active participants in their local communities and access local services for themselves and their families. We work across South West London and provide a stepping stone to employment, volunteering, other educational opportunities and other forms of community involvement.

We provide the following free services:

  • One to one English as a Second or Other Language (ESOL) tuition in the client’s home or remotely
  • A range of small-group classes in community settings and remotely, focused on a specific themes (e.g. health & wellbeing)
  • In Work progression programme for migrant workers with limited English
  • Trips and social activities in the surrounding areas, e.g. heritage tours of Kingston, trips to Kew Gardens
  • Information and support to access local statutory and voluntary services

Our services offer people a means to overcome isolation and improve integration through improved English language skills, increased confidence and self-belief, and greater knowledge of local services and community life.

During the pandemic all LEAH services have been delivered remotely by phone or online video and our digital offer will become an integral part of LEAH’s ‘blended’ offer of support for clients for the future to address digital exclusion amongst LEAH’s client group. We are now at an exciting phase in our development as we launch our 22 – 25 Strategy and move towards a hybrid delivery model in the community, re-open community based services alongside launching new services that respond to identified needs in our local communities.
