Wikimedia UK's Board of Trustees provides strategic guidance, direction and oversight for the charity as a whole while recognising and respecting the domain of staff responsibility. In particular, the board:

• sets and maintains our direction, vision, mission and values, and helps develop strategy for effective charitable impact

• sets and maintains the policies, practices, budgets and other processes necessary to deliver those aims

• selects and supports the CEO who has oversight of operations, staff and employment procedures

• maintains fiscal oversight and accountability, including risk management and ensuring that the charity operates in a prudent and solvent manner

• ensures that the law and our Articles of Association are complied with

• promotes and champions the charity

• maintains its own effectiveness as a board

We have a board of up to 11 trustees who are appointed for three-year terms. Most trustees are elected however we can have up to four co-opted trustees at any one time. Trustees of Wikimedia UK are expected to sign the Code of Conduct and to declare any actual or potential conflicts and personal interests. 

Full board meetings are held quarterly, as are meetings of the two formal sub-committees (Audit and Risk, and Governance).

ROLE DESCRIPTION

Governance & Board Development:

• Lead the Board of Trustees in setting and supporting the charity’s strategic direction and ensuring the work of the organisation is aligned with the strategy 

• Oversee the recruitment and induction of trustees, ensuring an effective, diverse and inclusive Board

• Monitor trustee engagement and compliance with the Code of Conduct

• Lead the development of best practice in governance, including conducting regular board evaluations and working with the staff team on board training and development

Meetings:

• Chair quarterly meetings of the full board, an annual away day, and the Annual General Meeting, working with the CEO on setting the agenda and ensuring the timely distribution of papers.

• Facilitate constructive, open, and respectful discussion during meetings, ensuring all relevant factors are fully considered and clear decisions are made.

• Chair the Governance Committee (which meets as needed) and liaise with the Chairs of other Board Committees

Staff:

• Act as the main channel of communication between the Board and staff

• Act as the line manager for the Chief Executive, providing support and input through regular one-to-one meetings, and conducting annual appraisals

External Relations:

• Represent Wikimedia UK externally as required, collaborating with the Chief Executive on advocacy and outreach efforts

• Monitor the charity’s financial performance and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements

Person Specification:

• Proven experience in a leadership role within a nonprofit organisation

• Demonstrated commitment to open knowledge and the values of Wikimedia UK 

• Strong understanding of governance, strategy, and the nonprofit sector

• A good understanding and experience of best practice within charity governance

• Familiarity with charity finance, reporting, and fundraising practices

• Excellent communication, negotiation, and advocacy skills

• Ability to foster a culture of collaboration and inclusivity

• Experience in chairing meetings and leading diverse teams or boards

• Committed to promoting and supporting equity, diversity, and inclusion

• Knowledge and experience in one of the sectors or areas that Wikimedia UK’s works with, such as cultural heritage, education or civil society, is desirable

Time Commitment:

• Approximately one day a month, including Board meetings (typically held quarterly), an annual strategic planning meeting, meetings with the Chief Executive and occasional attendance at public and community events.

• Reasonable expenses, including travel and accommodation, will be reimbursed.

Term:

• As per our Articles, co-opted trustees are appointed for an initial term of two years, with the possibility of co-option for two further terms. We are ideally looking for a commitment of at least three years from our new Chair of Trustees.

Carers' Hub is an independent local charity based in Brixton. Our mission is to improve carers’ lives in Lambeth through quality services and community engagement. We achieve this through four core workstreams: raising awareness of carers, influencing local policy through community engagement activities, improving carer wellbeing and connecting carers to each other and to support and training opportunities through our services.

Caring for a loved one, family member, friend or neighbour, can have a significant impact on all aspects of a carer's own life. Our dedicated and passionate team work with carers to help overcome challenges around managing at home, finances, caring with confidence, education and employment, physical health and emotional wellbeing.

We have an exciting opportunity for new Trustees to join the Carers’ Hub Board, responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of the charity.  We have recently reviewed the current Board and we are particularly interested to hear from people with the experience or skills outlined below, but these are not mandatory, and we would like to hear from anyone with an interest in being a trustee:

• Finance: accounting, managing budgets, producing financial reports. You might be a qualified accountant, or someone who has good financial management experience. • Fundraising: writing bids, securing corporate partners or raising donations from individuals. We are keen to diversify our income and we are looking for someone who has fundraising experience to advise and support our staff team to raise funds. 
   
• Legal: employment law, charity law or a different discipline. We are looking for someone who can offer us advice and guidance when needed and help us with reviewing contracts and other documents.

At Carers' Hub, we want our Board to be representative of the diverse community we support. We are keen to hear from anyone who is interested, even if you haven't previously pictured yourself as a trustee or aren't sure if you have the experience or skills required.

Across 45 years, Artsadmin has produced a vast range of visionary artists’ projects all over the world and supported thousands of artists and arts workers at all stages of their careers. For the last 30 years, we’ve also run Toynbee Studios in Tower Hamlets, East London, with multiple rehearsal spaces to hire and home to an important community of artists and creative organisations.

Overall purpose

Our Youth Club helps young people with complex medical needs and/or special educational needs to build confidence and develop independence and life skills. The Youth Club assistant will help the Activity Leads deliver our youth club for these young people and their siblings.

What will you do?

• Assist with various sports and leisure activities (e.g. table tennis, bowling, climbing), supporting the young people attending the club to participate
• Work with young people 1:1 or in small groups
• Help set up and clear away at the beginning and end of the sessions
• Participate in a briefing and de-briefing session before and after the club to help evaluate the skills, strengths and weaknesses of the young people after each session
• Help with any special projects the young people would like to do
• Attend initial training (half day)
• Attend a 1 hour supervision monthly meeting
• Liaise with the Youth club Lead in case of questions/difficulties

OneSpirit Interfaith Foundation was established as an educational charity in 2003. Our aim is to develop spiritual awareness and to support people of all faiths, and none, by delivering a range of training programmes that allow open-hearted adults to serve their chosen communities through Ministry, Spiritual Counselling and in supporting life’s transitions. Our interfaith ministers bring unconditional love and radical commitment to members of the public through ceremony, ritual, spiritual counselling, and other methods of support.

We are seeking new trustees, with a focus on marketing and/or legal experience, with a commitment to the vision and purpose of the organisation to join our board. Trustees are appointed for a term of 4 years and are essential to the progress and growth of our organisation.

Organisational purpose:

To benefit the public by the education of mature adults in:
• the core principles of the world’s religions, faiths, and spiritual traditions;
• principles and methods of forgiveness, reconciliation and peace-making;
• and the practice of non-denominational spiritual and pastoral service in the community.

Ideally, you will have experience working in a not-for-profit organisation and will be passionate about spiritual life and faith-freedom. We would particularly love to hear from anyone with experience of Human Resources, Adult Education, Financial Management, Fundraising, Legal, and IT.

Formal trustee meetings take place with senior staff quarterly, and we hold up to nine trustee-only meetings annually. To ensure our work is collaborative, we also have an annual two-day gathering of trustees and the wider leadership team. All trustees are volunteers, with expenses available for travel to and from meetings and other incidental expenses where applicable. Please note that meetings are currently being held via Zoom.

About YAUK

Youth Advantage UK is a charitable organization that uses a research-led approach to inform policy work and projects that aim to promote and further the human rights of young people aged 11 to 25 across the United Kingdom.

Please note that this is a remote VOLUNTEER role.

DataKind UK is a small charity with a vision for a strong, thriving third sector that embraces data use to become more impactful. We connect third sector organisations with data professionals to improve their decision making, problem solving, and working practices, by applying data science approaches to sector-wide challenges.

We’re looking for enthusiastic and supportive individuals to fuel our mission and direction by providing oversight of our operations, supporting with major decision-making, and advocating for our work and cause.

Being a trustee is a great way to give your time to a cause you care about, broaden your network, and develop your strategy and governance skills and knowledge.
