The CharityJob Salary Report 2025
Using data from more than 55,000 roles, including 36,000 full-time or annual salaried roles, advertised on the CharityJob website last year, the CharityJob Salary Report 2025 provides informed insights into charity salaries and the latest recruitment market trends.
This year, the report has been expanded to offer more detailed insights, designed to assist those recruiting in the sector to make informed salary decisions and gain a deeper understanding of the recruitment market. As well as detailed salary information by job category, experience level, location and workplace type, additions include:
- salary breakdowns for senior-level roles (including charity CEO salaries and charity director salaries)
- salary breakdowns for contract and part-time roles,
- volunteering trends,
- long-term salary and market trends,
- candidate demographic data across different job types, gathered through our equal opportunities reporting tool.
We’ve also refined our methodology, to better align with other sector analysis and government reports. Most significantly, average charity salaries are now calculated as the median, rather than the mean.
Key Insights from the CharityJob Salary Report 2025
1. The market shifted to a recruiter-led model
In 2024, we saw a transition to a recruiter-led market. The number of paid jobs posted on our site decreased by 20% from 2023, aligning with national trends, as reported by the ONS and data from more generalist job boards.
At the same time, there was a 56% increase in the number of clicks on the ‘Apply’ button. The decrease in jobs posted, coupled with the increase in candidate demand indicates a clear a shift to a recruiter-led market.
2. The average charity salary was £35,000
The average charity salary (calculated using the median) for a role posted on the CharityJob website in 2024 was £35,000 – a 3% increase from 2023.
3. There was a 24% pay disparity between roles in London and outside of London
While median salaries both in and outside of London increased by 1% from 2023, salary growth outside London surpassed that of London across all job categories, except finance.
Nevertheless, the median salary in London (£37,500) remains significantly higher, exceeding the median salary for roles outside of London (£30,282), by 24%.

4. Finance roles have the highest charity salaries, and admin roles have the lowest
Of the categories included in the report, finance roles paid the most with a median salary of £49,999. Conversely, roles in admin and support work had the lowest median salaries at £29,999 and £30,000 respectively.
5. Workplace types continue to change
In 2024, the proportion of roles with hybrid working arrangements continued on its upward trend from the last few years, increasing from 45% in 2023 to 50% in 2024.
At the same time, the proportion of on-site roles decreased from 43% to 38%.
6. Remote roles offered the highest pay and saw the greatest candidate demand
Remote roles had a higher median salary (£37,500) compared to both hybrid (£37,275) and on-site (£30,374) roles.
They were also significantly more in demand, attracting more than seven times the number of clicks on ‘Apply’ than on-site roles and four times more than hybrid roles. The average number of clicks on ‘Apply’ for remote roles was 209.
