Welcome to our quarterly insights, with the latest facts and figures from the labour market. This update is based on the jobs posted on CharityJob during October–December 2024.
Candidate demand for jobs
This has increased over the last quarter. The average number of clicks on the ‘Apply’ button rose steadily, before peaking for the year in November.
The average number of clicks on the ‘Apply’ button for a job was up 8% on the previous quarter and has increased by 43% year-on-year.
Candidate numbers
We’ve seen a 28% higher number of new candidate registrations than the same period last year, and a 2% higher number than the previous quarter, again outperforming both 2022 and 2023. We now expect numbers to increase even further as we move into the peak period of January in the next quarter.
The number of active candidates on our site increased by 29% year-on-year and 3% from the previous quarter. The increase in candidate demand that we’re seeing reflects the recruiter-driven market we currently find ourselves in, with fewer jobs being posted and more active candidates. The increase in candidate activity is also due to our additional work in sourcing candidates via social media.
Number of jobs posted
Again, this reflects that the UK market has become much more recruiter-led, with an increase in candidate demand and a drop in the number of jobs vacancies. The number of jobs posted on our site has decreased by 11% year-on-year, again falling below both 2022 and 2023 levels.
In the first quarter of 2025, we expect an increase in the number of jobs posted, as recruiter activity spikes in January.
Job categories
The category with the most roles available this quarter was ‘Business Services’, with more than 2,300 jobs posted. And the category with the biggest gap between number of roles and demand for those roles was fundraising, with 23 clicks on ‘Apply’ for fundraising jobs, compared to 41 for all jobs. Demand for fundraising roles was 44% lower than the overall demand for jobs.
