Recruiter Insights for October 2023

In addition to sharing our advice and insights on recruitment in the charity sector and how to make the most of your resources, this month we’re highlighting some facts and figures from the labour market. These are based on the jobs posted on CharityJob during July―September 2023.

Demand for jobs

The demand for jobs from candidates increased by 50% this quarter compared to the same quarter last year. (This is measured by the number of clicks on a job’s ‘Apply’ button.)

Candidate numbers

The number of candidate registrations on our website increased by 10% from Q2 to Q3 of this year, and by 18% compared to Q3 last year. In particular, registrations in September this year increased by 29% from the same period last year and 18% from pre-covid levels.

Number of jobs posted

The number of jobs available saw a decrease from Q2 to Q3 of this year. This is in line with data from the ONS, which shows that the number of jobs available across the whole of the UK decreased.

These trends show a change from the heavily candidate-driven market we saw in 2022 to one that’s more recruiter-driven.

Fundraising was the most-advertised category of jobs, followed by admin and then advice/information. For candidates, policy/research roles were the most in demand, followed by campaigning roles.
